Thanks all....shopping spree on the cards for the weekend. :D Sourskittle - there are some nice ones on River Island but they only had navy in stock (got them anyway), also found some nice ones in Next online but when I got to the checkout page it was the wrong Next site that doesn't deliver here (Grr) and they are not on the delivery site. So will go check out the shop as they are maybe the same ones that Polly got. Thank you!

These are the UAE's very own - they are called Al Fursan and you will see them a lot anytime after 6.45am up there. They are AWESOME!! Pilots are all Emirati. There are 7 planes altogether and mostly 6 fly. It is one of my absolute favourtite things about living here - last week they were doing hearts in the sky. If you go on youtube you can see some of their displays.

Mrs DB, every agency works Saturdays and most will also work Fridays though you will pay a little more for that. If you are tight on budget there are still some agencies who offer 25 per hour. A good 4 or 6 hour shift on the days he's away will help a lot. Good luck!

You shouldn't get a joint policy, for the simple reason that you & your hubby aren't likely to die at the same time! And if you take out a joint policy, the policy will stop as soon as one of you dies! Is that not the whole point?! Whoever dies first leaves a lump sum for the other to spend. You are not going to need it once you are both dead?!

While your DH doesn't really *deserve* to go on the stag weekend for being a prime numpty - I guess you have to weigh up what the aftermath will be if he doesn't go. If it's a close friend, and if he is always going to hold it against you/bring it up/resent you for not going, then it's probably best to bite the bullet and accept that it's going to be a difficult weekend but that you'll get through it. Actually, what you could do, is use it as a turning point. Get some help (as much part-time as you need), get to the salon, look fabulous when he gets back, get some sort of routine established when he is not there so that when he gets back it's like a new start for you both with regular date nights and lots of help and a bit more of togetherness for you. Also for the first few date nights why don't you go for a good movie instead of just dinner so there is not as much pressure to talk when maybe you are both too tired etc. I remember our first date night after our LO was born and all I could think of to talk about was different types of prams and the pros/cons between them all. :D

This is really sad and has been a worry of mine for a while - not sure what happened in this case but there are a lot of buses who still won't join the back of the various queues at the exit points on this road and think it's acceptable to push into the queue halfway up (thereby stopping on a lane of MBZ road). It's so dangerous. The other day there was a broken down truck on the side of MBZ road, he obviously didn't have his triangle to alert traffic so was using his........................fire extinguisher. Goodness knows what would happen if someone had driven over the top of it.

The food from the Afghani restaurant opposite the bowling centre is very cheap and one of DH's favourites, he either eats in himself or brings it home for us.

Deliberately not calling this a diet! ;) Can't find previous thread on this. After weeks and weeks of visitors it is time to get back on the wagon. What are your recipes for fast days? Especially any vegetarian ones (allowed egg/dairy). Let's slim down for summer! :)

The tube is 57 minutes to Victoria, and then another 8 minutes to CJ. I'm just not sure if it will be bothersome after a 7 hour flight.

Singerosa, seeing as you've asked for advice, hope you don't mind some q's on your daily schedule. 615 AM get up and get ready 630 AM Give my DD milk and pack her lunch 640 AM get my DD ready 700 AM Leve house and head to nursery 710 AM Drop DD and head to work 730 AM reach work 800 AM head to Gym for my break 915 - 600 PM work 630 PM or 700 PM home depending on traffic 800 PM try to put DD to sleep 830/900 PM head to the kitchen to get dishes washed and prepare dinner for my DH 10 PM quality time and before i know it.. its too late. 1. Why are you reaching work at 8am and then spending 1 hr 15 minutes on the gym. Ditch that for a start. Get in to the office at 8 and leave at 5! 2. That will get you home by 5.30 3. there is no way you should be washing dishes and making dinner so late at night. Get a slow cooker for soups/curries/stews, it can be cooking all day while you are in the office, all ready for you when you walk in the door. Leave your dishes for your new agency maid who will be arriving at 9am the following morning. 4. Get a trustworthy agency maid to come for 2 hours every day or every 2nd day. They'll have a key to your house so can come 9-11. You'll come home to a clean house (and a slow cooked curry!). Lock up your valuables so there's no need to worry. This leaves you stress free, with quality time in the evening to spend with your DD and DH. Bed at 10pm instead of you starting your quality time at 10pm!

Up at 5. In the summer anytime from 4.30. Out with the dog at 5.45. Home/shower/get everyone up/breakfast, leave for school @ 7. Arrive at work @ 8. Home from school & work 3-4pm, family time & cook dinner & pack lunches for following day, dinner @ 6.30. Movie/time with DH @ 7.30pm. Do not talk to me after 9pm. :D

From Business Bay you'd be better taking Al Khail road or MBZ road which would be more direct. Allow 45 minutes if you are going for an interview but on a daily basis it shouldn't take that long.

OP for this last term I'd get DD off the bus and either get driving or cab back and forwards with her - it will really help her if you are there with her and meeting mums/kids and just getting a general vibe of what's going on in those few minutes before and after school. Maybe if you post which area of Dubai you live in you'll find another mum who does a similar school run and also maybe a friend for DD in the same area. <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 09/05/2014</em>

Don't read too much into race/colour - children living here are mostly unaware of colour, especially at that age, they are so used to being all muddled up together and having classes full of people from all corners! Definitely agree to the playdate idea - just getting together with one or two mums/kids will help a lot. Also, it's not too long til the end of term and after the summer she won't be the only new one so that will help. You could also get her involved in something non sporty out of school, like the Brownies?

I agree too. Somehow they always just *look* like they've been made at the tailor and you can get such lovely suits in M&S etc that last well and are so well finished/cut. Much cheaper often too!

Sorry to hijack, what are the rules in this case: Tenant has 3 year lease, at the end of the 3 years, the LL and tenant sign a 1 year contract. The contract says "this contract is not renewable, not negotiable, ends in 1 year, ends in March 2015" etc. But no formal 12 month notice has been given?

Your Egate won't work unless you have been to DNATA and changed it over to a visit visa Egate (assuming you are from one of the 33 countries that are allowed to have Egate as visitors)

haha Ruth, your post reminds me of when we took visitors recently to Hatta - they were both really struggling with the heat and when we arrived I was excitedly saying "smell, the air, doesn't it smell great and really crisp, it's so fresh!" and they just looked bemused and said "errr, not really, no" Not the kind of fresh/crisp they are used to clearly. :D
