I agree with the suggestion to have dinner before you go, as dinner is served very late (midnight-snack time!) and your tum will rumble ;) Lots of dancing, bling, and fun :)

I don't understand what you are saying. Surely if you have more stars you have had more thumbs up. Why would that mean your posts have been unhelpful??!

TB how come you only have one star and more posts than me and i have 2 (na na)? I think stars are thumb-related and not post-related?

Toast, perfectly toasted and left to go cold so the butter doesn't melt, topped with honey fresh from a hive. And a perfect cup of tea in a china cup.

LD!!!!!!!!!!! It's so lovely to see you back! Hope life is going well for you. For landscaping I can highly recommend Aquascape, they have just finished ours and we are really pleased with it. :) They turned up every day, all day, very tidy, did a great job. :) In terms of handover, just check that it is *actually* ready for handover. Sometimes they say handover but it's signing the last bits of paper then your keys are not ready for a few days/a week. Sometimes the 'handover' includes a final snagging thing and then the actual key handover follows after that, Also if you are planning to connect dewa etc when you are here then it depends how long you are coming for, as these things sometimes take longer than you think with handovers. I'd also check before you come that although the developer is ready to handover, has the building actually been cleared with municipality? As until it has you won't be able to do dewa etc. Just so you don't have a wasted trip. For your LOs, weather is perfect at the moment so plenty of park trips. There are of course the usual play areas but loads to do outdoors. PoshPaws petting farm for baby goats/turtles/etc. Creek park for pony rides & Children's City. Dubai Mall for the aquarium, and there is a huge real dinosaur skeleton there at the moment, lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. There is a lovely new Lime Tree cafe on SZR and their carrot cake still rocks. :) Nice to see you back on EW. take care, TB/BM xx

I actually would prefer they are removed, and certainly can't see any value in having a running total of red and green thumb points alongside our names. If someone gets lots of red thumbs on their username I don't think its very friendly. I feel all this categorization defeats the spirit of the board IMO. I agree because somehow- it can be used as the most passive aggressive judgmental system ever. If a poster agrees or disagrees- I want to know why. Perhaps they have an argument that makes sense or a view point that I haven't considered. Hiding behind a silent red thumb feels very cowardly. I like the green thumb- it is just like nodding your head in approval. I don't like the red thumb- how many people do you know who consider shaking their head in disapproval while having a conversation enough to state their point? I agree - and wonder about its usefulness when it seems it will be used based on whether the person likes the poster or not, rather than the actual post content. Also, it's quite rare that something is so ground-breaking or hilarious that it would need a thumbs up. Generally, a 'how do i get to the post office' and the ensuing replies are not really thumbs up or down worthy! Anyway, it's good that EW is evolving. Has anyone managed to get a golden star yet? I WISH we could get 'strikethrough' text as some posts on Mumsnet are really funny.

There used to be a lovely one in MOE for that age group, way up above the games area. Not sure what it is called or if it is still there (not very helpful sorry!) - was that a Peekaboo too? Lamcy used to have a brilliant area for that age group until they changed it all to a hideous video games area :(

The traffic is already 'interesting' in the area around Gulf News where there are some road closures, although a policeman is now on duty directing traffic which helps a lot - also I didn't realise there will also be bridges on AW road and JB road too. Guess it will be the same sort of diversions that took place while the Defence Roundabout/Interchange 1 intersection got constructed. Cumbersome but not hugely disruptive. I hope. :D

Gorobattie I don't think it's the same situation at all - one is a clearly published rule of your community, the other is a difference of opinion between tenants as to what is acceptable regarding noise/swimming pools. Anyway, in answer to your question, the following allow/are set up for children/bikes: - Al Barsha Pond Park - Mushrif Park (miles of cycle track) - Nad Al Sheba bike park - Al Qudra bike track There are also various parks which may not allow you to take your own bikes in (would have to check) but do have their own bikes for hire (Creek Park/Safa Park/Jumeirah Open Beach).

I have a new so called management in the compound I live in, and they have the sign says no bicycle inside the common area, which is stupid in my own opinion, I have children under 10 and where should I let them ride their bikes? in the streets?! I wouldn't, so I found the security is telling me sorry mam you can not bring bikes inside new management new rule! I just told him I am sorry but I will bring the bikes inside and sorry for your new management new rule, the conversation just kept between me and him repeating the same sentences until he just give up and could't do anything and I went inside with the bikes. Gorobattie, this is not the same situation as the OP who is having problems with a difference of opinion with one particular tenant. In your case those are the actual community rules.

Why don't you switch to some diabetic chocolate and just a square or two - at least a bit less sugar/fat?! I am also trying but it's hard when people keep leaving 'buttery belgian chocolate' cookies on your desk. How is one supposed to resist? :(

If your visa is from your employer then it's your employer that has to do all the paperwork for the transfer of visa from one passport to another..

You can get your visa in your new passport - it costs a small amount maybe around 200 AED can't remember - takes about a week I think. But for most people it's easier just to rubber band their two passports together until the visa expires and then you get the new visa in your new passport (by which time your passport is full and you need a new pp, lol) :-P

Our bamboo has completely taken off, it grows so high, provides really good coverage and doesn't seem to need a lot of water at all! It's the way forward!
