Not sure but I would also love to know. I think the dairies are quite open to visitors! There are school trips etc. You could maybe just go and visit a few and ask.

Not sure Gingerdee, but if you are looking for organic milk which (presumably?) doesn't have these types of things, Spinneys sell French "Biomilk" and the Organic shops have milk too. You may also want to check camel milk as that might be healthier if hormones are not used. Desperate for UAE to have organic cows with milk/cheese. Greenheart is good for local organic eggs!

I know not what he does as he works He may actually have all sorts of quirks you see, he comes in the night when all is dark removes my bag from the doorstep (what a lark) and two days later again in the dark he appears and leaves the clothes clean, with no creases or smears he is mysterious, elusive, a wonder in his field never an item he has burned or stealed

You can check with your own PO and also Karama. It will only stay in UAE for 14 days or less so you'll need to make one or two trips within that time.

shopping in local supermarkets (not the expat ones where a jar of marmite costs 8 pounds!) I've just realised my 2 tiny turnips cost 5 pounds!! what's that all about???! They do taste great with me haggis though. :D

Trish, I'm going to offer you a different perspective, as there are lots of people who live a very happy life here on that salary and less (with no school fees paid etc). 22k salary + 4k housing is not bad at all. 1. When you are house hunting be realistic about areas. The Marina is lovely, but it's also very expensive. Check areas like Silicon Oasis, Dubailand etc - which will be a little further out for you to drive but almost half the price. 2. When hunting for work, consider getting something that will fit round your DS school/nursery hours, maybe finding something at the school/nursery itself so you don't need a maid for childcare. There are loads of cheaper nurseries that may not be at the top of most people's lists, but again remember there are lots of cheaper alternatives to most things in Dubai! You can find a decent place which may not be as glam but is loving and safe for your LOs. 3. Don't shop in Spinneys but do your weekly shops in cheaper supermarkets 4. Don't rush out and sign up for cars/loans etc If you can get one cheaper 2nd hand car and manage it between you for the first few months life will be easier later down the line. You will however need some cash to start you off with. Electricity/Internet deposits, housing deposits and your first few months rent will all have to be paid upfront. This may be your biggest consideration. There are lots of families here who live very happily on your salary. Buy Me A Pony did an extensive work-out of costs required to move here - that would probably be very helpful fo you. Good luck! :)

Visas can be done very quickly (24-48 hours) if you have everything spot on - reality is it will take a couple of weeks for his and then the process to do yours can start. Make sure you have your marriage cert attested etc, and your DC's birth certificates attested, and DH's education certificates attested. if you need more info on what is required, shout.

As far as I know Rashid is only for governmental patients free. moreover they should have long waiting times and the facility is not nice. However I was never a patient there but I definitively wouldnt go. I hope you are never in an ambulance then, as that is where they go! ;) Rashid Hospital is widely regarded as the best trauma centre in Dubai. It may not be everybody's cup of tea on the luxury scale, however they are so experienced dealing with so many accidents and injuries on a daily basis that you would have to weigh up your preferences on medical care versus luxuries. Their triage team are also very experienced, and if you have to wait for a long time it is because there are much more serious injuries in front of you. Their medical team has experience from all over the world not just Arab. And lastly, although they are attended by Locals, their majority customer would be expat - reflecting the population of Dubai. Dubai IS mostly expat. Of all nationalities! For the OP, go to www.dohms.gov.ae and find out where your nearest local clinic is. Go there, have a chat with someone and find out how to register yourself for a healthcard. To see a Gynae, you usually see a GP first at your local clinic. HTH.

It depends, travelling to a monsoon area when you are leaving the heat of Dubai in July/August can sometimes be very enjoyable. It depends if rain would really spoil your holiday or if you would enjoy it! Also, in some areas now the monsoon is not heavy downpours like days of yore, and more on and off showery. You'll also get cheaper rates.

Any of the phone shops in Satwa will be fine. They are excellent and know exactly what they are doing. You'll find some of the bigger shops in the malls which take a few days to fix them use these shops in Bur Dubai/Satwa but charge twice the price ;)

I LOVE our laundry guy - I give him a black bag full of washed clothes and he delivers them back beautifully ironed 2 days later, nothing has ever gone missing (5 years been using him) and he has never ruined anything. So cheap too. He is one of my Life Savers. And no I am not giving it the EW curse by releasing his details. He's alll mine...mwahahahaha. :D
