Hi there, I highly recommend that you sign up with www.careem.com who now operate in Qatar, the drivers will be very familiar with the areas you need to go to. You could either book your rides as you need them, or drop them an email to organise a daily/weekly driver. :)

I'm sure when we had a similar problem, DH installed something on the bottom of the door, probably from Ace Hardware. It wasn't a sausage dog kind of thing but something with bristles!

He could try Rashid Paediatric as I think it was them looking for volunteers to help with Riding for the Disabled at stables the other day on here. Otherwise what about just doing some reading/music with a young classroom at a school/special needs school.

Hi Laila, Can you please clarify, are you applying for a visit visa for him to re-enter the country but you both are still in the country? You will have to wait until you are out. And you also may have to wait a certain length of time after you leave before you reapply. Have you tried calling DNRD? Also, do you have the visa cancellation paper from the company?

It doesn't mean after one month - the clause says "Rental Renewal" so at the end of the tenancy period, i.e. one year? But with a month's notice prior to renewal.

Some of the meal packs for children on airlines are beyond belief though, on one I saw skittles!!! If there's ever a thing to have your child bouncing off a wall, it's a packet of skittles!

Hi Banazadam, As you've mentioned you are moving from London, I've assumed you are all UK passport holders, let us know if not. Your DH and children don't have to wait until you have your visa to come in - you'll all arrive on visit visas, and yours will move to a residence/employment visa. It doesn't take long at all, in fact if you have everything ready to go it can be done in 48 hours, typically though there are bits and pieces of paperwork missing and that's when days turn in to weeks. Definitely not 10 weeks though! You are probably looking at a month from arrival to visa. Firstly, make sure you have all of your paperwork ready before you arrive, your education certificates, marriage certificate and the kiddies birth certificates should all be notarised/attested and then stamped by the UAE Embassy in London (assuming you've been educated/married etc in UK). That will cut out any delay. You haven't mentioned if your DH will be looking for work or if you will be sponsoring him but anyway if it goes over 30 days since you all entered, you'll just do a 'visa run' to Oman and back and start again, so no need for them all to wait for you and your visa. Re advice, try and find a nursery that is open all year round, if you are going to manage yourselves without a maid. It is very possible, but much easier with nurseries that cater to working parents so early drops, late pickups and open all year except Eid hols (when you'll be off anyway). There are quite a few so once you know your living/working locations you can let us know and we'll help. Re houses, probably best to post the area you'll be working in, the good ladies of EW can point you in good directions re where best to live that has a good nursery for working parents too. HTH. Just shout with more questions. :)

I'm not sure if anyone will remember the lady who asked for help to get back to the UK as she was very sick, sadly she died very shortly after making it back to the UK. Yes, I remember this LC. She had cancer and was asking for help from someone within Emirates to get upgraded, to make her last journey easier. Many people thought it wasn't true. She died a short time later. :(

Musandam is lovely. It will take nearly 3 hours door to door from Dubai including about an hour at the border - you can stay in the Golden Tulip Khasab or some of the more basic hotels inside Khasab. A must is a dhow trip to see the many wild dolphins, and the coast road is just stunning!!! (Note the dolphins are usually on khasab side, not dibba side of Musandam).

You could also have a garage sale on a Friday - put up a few posters around and let the maid network do the rest! Posh Paws has an area at the farm now where they sell books/jumble to help towards the upkeep of the animals.

Another thing that probably needs to be amended is that it is just taking an average of rents in an area - for example with commercial rent it is taking the average rent for a whole area, it is quoting the area I am looking at at 1/3 of what I know it is in our building. And on renewal our rent will not go down......... it is not taking in to consideration specific buildings which are way higher than other buildings.

Hi Suziemack, Yes, yes, yes to negotiation! You can do this in various ways (i.e. we'll pay 50,000 less but are ready to present cheque today etc). You can negotiate in whichever way you can. Your lender will instruct the survey and the value of the house would be the value of the mortgage. Which is not necessarily the selling price! The problem you'll find with the market at the moment is that a) some sellers (sometimes genuinely and sometimes because of the agents) are only interested in cash buyers - it can be quite difficult to get the house you want if you are not a cash buyer, and b) if the sellers are not getting the price they want, or think they can make more in a month, they are sometimes happy to take the house back off the market, which can be quite frustrating if you want to buy and are ready to buy but the seller changes his mind between lunch time and dinner time ;) Please remember to factor in a lot of extra cash to your calculations, in terms of service fees, land registration fees, transfer fees etc, - these will not come out of your mortgage but when you add them all up can be quite a sizeable sum. Happy to help with any other related questions.

Hi Bpage, First of all, don't worry too much, there are lots of different types of lumps and lots of women have lots of lumps which are absolutely fine. :) Having said that, this is the sort of thing you want to have checked out asap, and if you want the best of the best then you are either looking for Dr Houriya Khazim who works from Well Woman Clinic in Diyafa (2nd Dec) St, or Dr Alex who works out of City Hospital. If you are short of funds you could start with the Iranian Hospital or somewhere like Advance Radiology on Al Wasl Rd, you will probably need to see a GP first though. Hope that helps. Good luck!

We've seen her a few times, she is very nice. (As a mum of a child who doesn't do carbs and won't even eat birthday cake - it is very worrying and frustrating to watch them on the bottom of the weight scale, but as long as they are healthy and running around then try not to worry too much). Good luck!

I'm afraid that I would be wondering why she is so against working weekends/nights etc, I suspect she has something else going on during this time which she is having to stop doing to accommodate you. I'd be a little wary of what that activity actually *is* while she is under your sponsorship and not under your roof........

That one has been closed for a while. You can do it inside the Al Manara municipality building near Noor Islamic Bank Metro station. You will also need to have your sponsor sign the form, whether that is your company or your DH.

DH says it is most likely an air lock :) it used to happen to us every 4 months or so and sometimes he had to remind them that's what it was, they either have to push through the pipes to unblock it or bleed it through until it unblocks (they have to do this from the central thingy not from your apartment). OMG I don't think that made any sense whatsoever. That's my interpretation of what DH just said. :D Try telling them it's an air lock and see how you get on. edited by Tattie Bogle on 05/01/2014

If you are in a tower with district cooling there is also some random thing that trips - DH knows more technical details :D I will ask him when he gets home. He used to tell them what it was in advance and to reset it, before going through the rigmarole of the separate DC/AC people coming out. Will find out more later.
