Try and have a think about what your bills are actually covering. 4k a month is a LOT. Look at the bill, is it water or electricity bumping it up? Do you have grass? (this is likely to be the biggest cause). Do you actually need grass?! Pave it over. A one time expense but you'll save so much monthly. Do you have a Maid? Is she running ac's/lights in all the rooms when you are out? Do you have a/cs on overnight just now - do you need them, open the windows! Check your water heaters, are they all on? Do you actually need them all on? Maybe instead of all 4 or 5 on, keep 2 on and let everyone have their showers in those bathrooms. I'd also check that you don't have a leak. If you go back and look at BMAP's posts from a couple of years ago you'll find information on how to check that your tank/pipes are not leaking (possibly from damas trees in yours or next door neighbours) - you may find that your water is constantly running to fill up a tank which is leaking.

MsSassy invest in a slow cooker! Chuck things in in the morning and after 4 or 8 hours it's all done. Meanwhile you can be out with baby. Hope things get better soon, glad you are getting some good advice.

How odd JoyceB, I don't think I have ever been on the Metro and not been offered a seat. I usually have to refuse as I like to stand at the front and get the view!! Di@DXB I hope you are ok after your fall. Good excuse for a day off :D

AR, I got some original star wars lego sets on Dubizzle, they were already built (hurrah!) but obviously were not boxed. There is definitely a market for them. Put them on and see how you go ;)

We had someone from Dragonmart take ours out, it cost AED 300. the language barrier is your biggest problem as generally the people who do these jobs at Dragonmart speak not one word of anything other than their Chinese language.

a brand new day, before it is light will the rain pour hard with all its might? it's too dark to tell if there are puddles galore and if we are rained in. Like days of yore what will the day bring, does anyone know? possibly Santa will organize snow. :D edited by Tattie Bogle on 23/12/2013

i'm shocked to the core to read this recent confession and think SD may need a therapy session though I do agree it's nice to watch from indoors and less chance of slipping on slippery floors but what could be better than a dark gloomy cloud at least once a year, it should be allowed!

to talk such a way of our favourite weather is surely means to be banned forever? can't you put on a coat or take out your brolly when the summer is here you will think of this talk as folly

Thank you both - Irooni it was for khoresht ghaimeh - but the recipe for Advieh that I looked up had rose petals etc in it so I thought would just be easier to buy an Advieh mix already made if that exists?

And if we're talking specific to the UAE, I think it's a sign that ladies are no longer happy just being 'ladies of leisure' and with not too many part time job opportunities available, many are setting up their own little businesses (baking/crafts etc) - it's great to see all of these unique businesses springing up instead of chain after chain. :)

They said on the phone that I did not need a UK bank account. But their website seems to be set up only for accounts with sort codes. Can't open a UK bank account as I'm not there! What a pickle.

So. I called UK Premium Bonds and they said no problem being outside the UK, no need for the tax certificate when applying from UAE etc. Except when you are filling the form out online, it asks for a 'sort code'. We don't have sort codes here. Argh. Anyone managed to do this?

It is supposed to be particularly beneficial for children that had a difficult birth (mine did!) even if you do the treatment years after their birth as their systems have never sorted themselves out after it sort of thing - and I remember during the session LO fell fast asleep (it's like a gentle massage) and slept through that night. here's a [url=http://www.parentdish.co.uk/baby/cranial-osteopathy-can-it-help-your-child-sleep/'>link[/url'> to just one article edited by Tattie Bogle on 09/12/2013

Hi WA, I really feel for you, having a child with sleep issues is very tough on Mum. Anyway - one thing that is worth a try is cranial osteopathy. I don't understand too much about it but it works ;). You will find lots of recommendations on her for Dr Lauren and Dr Russell from the osteopathy centre on Al Wasl Road. Good luck.

HI CB I haven't really had much time to look into it. Added to the fact that I'm not sure he will really come, we don't even generally go out for dinner with him at home as he finds it too much so I am not sure how he will manage a flight etc. But, I think the best place for you to start will be the Iranian Hospital followed by the Dubai Hospital (www.dohms.gov.ae) - they are likely to be the cheapest in Dubai. You could even check further afield like Ajman if the person is really on a budget. To be honest it worries me a bit having someone with this condition coming in with no insurance, if something goes drastically wrong and they are too ill to get home.....it would be a disaster. Hope you get on ok!
