Aline, if you don't mind getting up early, those of us living towards Emirates Rd (old bypass Rd) are treated to an AWESOME airshow every morning from 6.30am. The Al Fursan jets (look on youtube!) are practicing for the airshow. So hearts in the sky, displays etc. Normally 5 jets up flying in formation. Lasts about half an hour. I think they may also be practicing at about 10.30am but I am not home at that time so can't confirm. If you drive near to Falcon city and park on the road that faces out towards the desert you'll get a great view! Bring a breakfast picnic!!

I'd get them out asap. The roots of ones that were over our wall next door had come about 5 metres along and were trying to get to the pool :/: they don't give up! There are lots of other options. your local friendly gardener will give you tips on bushes which grow high for good coverage but are cheap.

i've started getting the new brand of UK free range in spinneys but they are 20.50 a pack of 6. it's quite hard to get eggs that are free range + organic + vegetarian i.e. not fed on fish. do the Greenheart ones meet all of those requirements?!

a hot summer in dubai, is very, very different from a rainy country where you can put wellies and a jacket/hood on and get out in to the fresh air. play areas are a godsend for any mother here for 2 or 3 months over the summer when their childrens' friends have gone home for the summer and children need some interaction and company. izzy, report back when you have a child of 4 years old and are here over the summer ;)

I'd change to a nursery which doesn't close for holidays. There are some which only close literally just for the few days over Eid when you are off anyway. way too stressful trying to think up other options during holidays.

To bring any controlled medication in to the UAE, you should have the prescription with you and this prescription should be attested by the UAE embassy in your home country in the same way our birth certs/education certs are. hi OP You can use your other nationality passport, however because it does not have an entry stamp in to UAE, you will not be able to use it exit. The easiest way round this would be to use your Egate card to exit (i hope you have one!) which technically you should not do as you should always be carrying the passport with the visa inside that is linked to your Egate but just once should be fine ;) - then on entry back to UAE use your 2nd passport to enter UAE thereby getting a stamp (or Egate again). The turnaround for new passports from UK is about 10 days so anyway you will prob have it in time. To transfer your UAE visa in to your new PP, you just need to go down to Immigration with everything and ask - I think it's about 200 AED. hth. <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 01/09/2013</em>

no the recovery is not really the same as a csection as you only have a few little cuts, nothing the same as csection, i have both. . Busybee the OP asked about both laparoscopic myomectomy which I think you are referring to above, and also if she has an abdominal myomectomy which is pretty much the same op as a CSection. And yes you do have a full scar, mine is 4 inches, and you are instructed not to drive etc. The op is the same only a growth is removed rather than a bambino ;) <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 29/08/2013</em>

@Tattie Bogle, Thank You! I might still need to get a C-section. I´ve seen some C-section scars from my friends back at home and they were tiny and very low. Doctors I saw here talked about a bigger and much higher scar, hopefully I won't need one in the end. Mine's about 4 inches wide - not sure if that helps or not. You'll be fine, don't worry. Recovery from this type of op is same as C Section i.e. no driving for a while, no lifting heavy objects etc. About 2 months in total but I was back at work after a week. HTH.

just a little aside, I have a friend who had fibroids and changed to a vegetarian diet. Within 3 months, the fibroid had shrunk to nothing. I've heard this is quite common. Maybe something you might like to look into as well. Best of luck. I've been veg for 20 years and had a grapefruit sized one removed! ;) OP mine was done by the op like a Csection, though not in Dubai. You'll be fine, though allow yourself some recovery time. Hope it all goes well.

I can instantly tell when my LO has had something with orange/yellow food colouring - all mango juices/orange juices that have that sort of colour in them. Definitely, definitely does something to children!

Raw as in on the honeycomb? I don't think so. you can buy honey/honeycomb in Spinneys, it's in tubs and usually near fruit/veg/bakery section i.e. not i the honey/jam section!

Hi LB, Depending on which way you are coming from: If you are coming from Dubai, take the slip road from SZR that you'd take if you were going to Spinneys. Instead of going down the road to Spinneys, go round the roundabout but continue along the slip road so you are running along beside SZR. You'll come to the car park for the Manara Municipality Building on your right hand side. If you are coming from New Dubai, take the Al Manara interchange and go down towards Al Wasl Rd. take the first right that you can, and first right again and just follow signs for the MEtro station, once you get near the Metro station you'll see the back of the building and can either park behind or drive round to the car park. hth!

There are two highly respected breast surgeons in Dubai, one is Dr Houriya Khazim (sp) at WellWoman above Allied Diagnostic and the other is Dr Alex at City Hospital. Both can be difficult to get an appointment with but if you go to WellWoman clinic and have a check up with one of the Drs, they'll send you to Allied Diagnostic for an ultrasound/mammogram and you can take it from there. bear in mind that there are LOTS of lumps which are totally fine, some women are just very lumpy! Cysts/fibroadenoma etc. So try not to worry until you get the news that all is fine. Good Luck!!

I'd say it is generous of your company as companies who offer perks are becoming fewer and fewer. And if the terms have been laid out from the start, I'm not sure what grounds you would complain on. The cost of petrol here is so cheap anyway that unless you are planning to drive up to Al Ain Zoo every day it is probably negligable! Most of the rest of us have to pay all of our own petrol/travel costs whether to work or play, so I'd consider yourself quite lucky. :)

There are lots of other ways you can approach this...sell yourself to your company! Approach your boss with a plan of how things could work for the first 6 months or a year - reduced hours, working from home, job sharing etc. Ok you may have to 'return' to work after 45 days but the capacity that you return in doesn't have to remain the same. You know your job inside out, your boss knows that - and you have ten solid years of them relying on you. how much hassle is it going to be for them to replace you if you leave. Cancelling your visa, hiring someone new, new visa, training them, new person taking ages to get up to speed. These all work in your favour. Get positive and creative and think about how you can sell only working mornings, or only working 3 days a week, etc. It may not be the norm here, but it is possible. :)

Not all government employees work less... I work for the Government and I work a lot more hours that my DH! Police, Fire Services, Civil Defence, Airport Security, hospitals (gov ones)... they are all Government employees. When you're planning your Eid break, the airport doesn't close, the police don't stop patrolling, and civil defense are still on duty. Look at last Eid and the flood in the Gardens. DEWA, the police and civil defense all worked through the night,and all are Government employees. There are many passionate Government employees that work to keep the city running, safe, and provide a secure and enjoyable environment in which you live whether its a normal working day, the middle of the night, or an Eid holiday. edited by nels on 23/08/2013 great post Nels
