I don't think there will be too much difference - but if you are there during Iftar time they would all be through the back breaking their fast so maybe find something to do during that time, otherwise it will be situation normal...

She can't get her 'own' visa, it's illegal for her to do this and work in this way (though you'll still hear of people doing it). She should tell the people that what they are asking her to do is illegal and that they must sponsor her. If they have not started the process within a few days she should seek other employment.

Hi Bella We went this week and it was fab!! We didn't go until about 4.30 so I can't comment about the heat/temp earlier on in the day, but there was absolutely no sun/heat at ALL at that time. No queues at all either! There were people of all ages, sizes, nationalities and everyone was having a great time. All the food/drink outlets are open as normal. Check Groupon as they are running a 45% off discount voucher :) oh, and wear something that won't come off easily ;)

I love that she had a tummy! It's so annoying when celebs come out of hospital after 2 days and look skinnier than they did a year ago, while the rest of us take years to get back to normal!! :-P

But you also have to pay the park entry fee which is 5-10 AED! Ginnee it's really good for that age. it's all interactive and button-pressing etc. There's a section on nature, a section on space etc. A little cockpit of a plane. A water area. It's good value for money!! There's also a planetarium but check the website for timings! It's really good value and fab for the summer as it's so nice and cool inside. Oh, and a soft play area too!! You'll love it.

You need permission to make any alteration to any property from the developer. For Emaar the details are here. http://www.emaar.com/index.aspx?page=faqs-householdservices I believe you need to pay a deposit which is refunded once they have inspected the work & ensured it is completed to their satisfaction, you will also need to submit drawings etc.

That "few minutes" wait might mean the difference between life and death in the case of a cardiac arrest or someone who is choking. Yes, that's what I mean - if it is critical like that I'd get involved but if not so critical then would make the person comfortable and wait for the ambulance & experts in case getting involved made the person worse. Not a nice decision to make though & I hope none of us ever have to!

I think the law/guidance is to protect you, more than anything else. you may think you know what is best for someone but something you do could affect them greatly (moving someone with a spinal injury etc). There are ambulances stationed all over Dubai and generally they are on the scene within a few minutes of a call, it's probably better to wait that few minutes than to get involved - unless it is something where the few minutes would make a critical difference.

Make sure you are not charging your batteries overnight etc. Your batteries should only ever be charged until full, i.e. about an hour of charging. Buy a new battery and start again, no overnight charging!

Empower is broken down in to:- 1. Quarterly Standard Fee payable in advance: For the 3 bed this is 500 per month (1500 pq), so for the two bed probably around 350pm (1050pq) and the one bed around 200 pm (600 pq)? CHeck your tenancy contract to see if these charges are payable by you or your LL. 2. Consumption Charge: Based only on your use of a/c. If your 'fresh air' system is operating properly and depending on which way your apartment faces, you should not be using too much a/c - get the guys out regularly to ensure that your 'fresh air' vents are all open and blowing properly, this should happen without switching a/c on. Your empower consumption bill should not be more than 200 a month really. Then your DEWA will be solely your cooker, lights, water heater, tumble drier etc. We had DEWA charges of about 300 per month in a 3 bed. So total you will have quarterly charge (if you are responsible for it) + consumption charge + dewa. hth.

I remember when I lived in Bahrain, before I became Muslim, I worked with 100% Muslim people in an office. i tried it too when I worked in an all-Muslim team, but couldn't make it past 10am! Like the others, I have so much respect for you all that can do this. Well done!! :)

Madge, in that way on EW, we'd never ask anyone about a hairdresser, whether something is stocked in the baking aisle, or whatever - as the answer would always be go and check it out yourself! I understand your sentiment but rather than test drive 20 different cars I'd rather rule a few out immediately if (like other American cars, e.g. Jeep) the a/cs are not good at coping with summer heat. Hi Flames, the 1 bedroom apartments are 7,500. Maybe about 12k would be a guess at a 4 bed. The agents should know by now, or try contacting Ishraqah the developer directly. Not sure re metro, it was def on the extra lines shown on the map years ago but i don't know if that is even started yet or still the plan. A site like skyscrapercity.com on the metro thread would guide you on that. Hth.

Favourite: Mushrif Park - For feeling like you are out in as close to green nature as you can get in the desert! Natural, wild & rambling. Loads of birds & shade. a trip to see the horses, donkeys & goats. Creek Park: For a ride right round on the four wheel bikes, an ice cream sitting on the bench looking out over the creek & our fab city! Safa Park for a feeling of peace and calm in the middle of the city Um Suqeim park for a nice shady picnic with a good stiff sea breeze!
