Been veggie for 20 years & I only eat free range eggs - but sourcing a free range milk is difficult in UAE. There is a "bio milk" available in Spinneys/organic cafe with a happy looking cow on the front, but not sure if it is a true reflection! Is there free range milk available anywhere? (I believe that the energy transmitted from happy hens and cows feeds through to their produce, and that negative energy from unhappy caged hens/cows does too) - sounds a bit hippy but it's not good eating something that has had a life of misery! ETA i don't buy leather either or go to zoos unless it is Al Ain as they get to walk around! edited by Tattie Bogle on 18/07/2013

I didn't think leasehold existed any more. This article on the BetterHomes website explains the evolution of what is now the freehold system in UAE. http://www.bhomes.com/uae/dubai_freehold_property.xhtml

SummerOn what is it you are asking, which were the first properties available for expats to buy? These I guess would have been the Springs/Meadows in 2003. Swiftly followed by others including towers in the Marina, JBR, the Arabian Ranches etc. Does that help? What is it you are asking?

I like using leftovers, particularly potatoes, to make into patties. Just mix whatever you have (fish, veggies, meat etc) with some fried onions, coriander, seasoning, bit of curry powder if you fancy, with mashed up potato and with some breadcrumbs. Form into patties, coat with breadcrumbs and rice flour and fry. Yummy!

Sometimes certain smells can trigger palpitations. Try not wearing certain perfumes or being in rooms with scented candles/bathroom freshener things for a few days. Also, cut out the decaf for a few days, there could be an ingredient in that that you are sensitive to. Try cutting out all these things and see if anything makes a difference (as well as seeing your Dr). Keeping a note of which room you are in/what you have eaten/drunk/smelled when you feel the palpitations may help. edited by Tattie Bogle on 17/07/2013

It's here, it's here!!! Now the only problem is how to squeeze into it??! :-P BTW, it comes from Spain, I guess it depends when you order it, if it's just before the weekend in Spain I guess it gets delayed. Great value though! Hurrah!

I challenge you to find anything more stressful than dealing with a certain shop which sells uniforms during the summer before school. - hello, it seems that your shop is under refurbishment, (*thinking - who decided this would be a good time, would January not be better?*) - can you tell me where else i can go to get the uniform for X School. - yes you can come to the factory. - ok, i will, but do you have everything in stock as in previous years i've been told on the phone that all stock is there but when I get there it is not ready yet? - yes maa'm, all colours here. - when you say 'all colours', i'm looking for the actual uniform for X school so there only is one colour - yes maa'm all colours available in sizes S, M, L - right, but to clarify, there only is one colour? - yes maa'm in sizes S, M, L (*thinking, there are actually about 20 different sizes?*) - are we talking about the same thing, the school uniform for X school? - yes - we have long sleeve or short sleeve - but they only have short sleeve? - yes but we can give you long sleeve - riiight - I think i'll just leave it. I have nightmares about this place all year long!!! :D

Yes you should be fine just take a letter stating you can't find it, and your usual pp/visa copy etc. Go to the Etisalat branch at Defence R/about (Al Wasl Service Centre). They will probably adjust it as your final bill rather than give you cash though - if your bill is not 2000 then you may have to wait a while for a refund..

At sports world, they can ride bikes and scooter, there is a running track, a soft play area, basketball courts and soccer fields. Its free to enter and then only some activities cost money (like the soft play) but I've never been asked to pay. Bring a couple balls and a scooter or even roller skates and you are set for the entire day. A bonus - for those moms who aren't fasting - is that Zoom is open inside Sports World - for sandwiches, pizza and basically anything else you might want. This sounds brilliant! thanks for sharing. can anyone take bikes, or is that only for kids? thanks!

How was the cheese Di? How does camel milk rate on the cholesterol scale, is it high because fat content is high? Also is camel milk/cheese lactose suitable for lactose intolerant people? (must google...)

Another thing you could do for free if your kids get up early is drive to the road that comes off Emirates Rd (opp Al Barari) marked Falcon City, drive to the end of that road, park up with a breakfast picnic (nobody should see you/Ramadan) and watch the UAE acrobatic jets practicing their display - they are out every weekday morn at the moment between 6.30 and 7.30 and it's really amazing!! You would get a great view from there.

Hi, If your docs are needed in NZ, they would probably have to be notarised by a NZ Notary (unless they have also stated that a UAE Notary would be fine?) For a NZ Notary your best bet would be contacting the NZ Consulate to ask them if there are any law practices which have someone qualified to notarise..

Well the metro station is at the back of City Hospital and Creek Park is at the bottom of that road, I know you like walking :-P but not sure if that would be too far?! If you googlemap you'll be able to see the distance between metro & park entrance.

Have you been to Children's City in Creek Park? It's 5-10 each to get in to the park - then another 10-15 aed each to get inside - it's an interactive science centre and quite big. It could def take an afternoon. There is a planetarium with Arabic and English shows I think one each an hour. http://www.childrencity.dm.gov.ae/wps/portal/childrencity edited by Tattie Bogle on 10/07/2013

Kiwi it sounds obvious but it is REALLY cold in there (seems colder as there is no sunshine!) - so make sure you have layers on. Remember a woolly hat & warm socks as well. There is a shop outside which sells everything. Enjoy!
