I would firstly take a trip to the Post Office connected to your PO Box, and secondly a trip to Karama Post office. Good luck.

Yes me too please (thanks TDB!) but can I also please ask (and apologise for being so ignorant) but when you are hosting an Iftar do you also lay out a prayer mat and is there anything special I should do re it being new etc? Also would male/female share the prayer mat or get two?! sorry for ignorant questions.

Help! Where can I buy a Nintendo DS game in that area? Virgin in Mercato is closed for refurbishment. Also, is a Nintendo DS game just that, or are there different types for different models??! Thanks a lot! :)

Yes you can take it to any Ejari counter and they will help. If it was registered you should have had a copy of the Ejari certificate but it's possible the agent didn't send you this. There is an Ejari desk in the Al Manara Municipality building on SZR.

You'll get them in the hardware shops in Satwa for about 15 AED each but make sure your measurements are spot on as they have lots of different sizes. If you can find your way to Al Maya supermarket there are hardware shops opposite. hth.

Very easy to do with a letter from your employer saying you travel a lot and require visas for XYZ countries and can't be without your original passport while it's in for visas. BUT technically you should not have 2nd passport with you when you are using your Egate card (which is linked to your 1st passport/UAE visa). But practically it would only be picked up if Egate machine was not working.

The developers are really stuck in these situations:- no service fees = amenities go downhill = looks shabby, pool not being kept properly etc. Tenants complain/value of property decreases/maintenance is bad etc. To keep up standards developers NEED to get these funds in - how can they manage it when a lot of owners are abroad/don't care etc. The simplest solution is to reduce annual rent by service fee amount (to the LL) but to the tenant the rental is the same amount. Monthly fee is then paid through dewa and goes directly to developer. Dewa cut off if fees not paid like they are for any other fee. Tenant pays the same annual fee. Developers are paid service fee. LL does not have to pay what can be a large annual fee. immediate solution all round.

At a Fast Food Joint. ordering an adults meal. - maam you want pepsi with the meal? - no actually it is for a child so can I just have a child's orange juice please - ok you pay 3 aed more - but i'm already paying for an adult's meal and this is a child's drink, why would it be more? - mam you pay 3 aed more - i'm not really disputing paying 3 aed more but just wondering what the logic is behind charging more for a child's drink than an adult drink? *blank stare* - so, just to clarify - a child's drink is smaller but costs 3 aed more than an adult's drink? - ok I remove the drink cost from the meal and add in the child's drink now you pay 1 aed more mam. - *despairingly taking 1 aed out of purse*

It's not in Deira! Deira is on the other side of the creek! ;) From SZR, go straight and when you get nr the Trade Centre start staying in Maktoum Bridge lane. Keep following Maktoum Bridge signs and keep to the left - when you see the sign that says Dubai Courts take that lane. You'll then come up the hill with the Post Office on your right. Take the next available right turn and the medical centre is on your left. :)

When Jim'll Fix It (Fixers in Dubai!) did their radio call in thing, they did an interesting feature on odd drainage/ac smells where it is as simple as old water stuck in the tap in the spare room. Because you never use the tap in your spare bathroom, the water stays in it and eventually smells. Running the taps in your spare bathrooms for about a minute a week can get rid of the smell. May or may not be the problem in your house, but worth a try?

PS no booking BBMover. It's basically some of the halls of the trade centre, all set up with rides/fun activities/bouncy castles/shows etc. It gets VERY busy in the evening but is pretty quiet during the day. During Ramadan it doesn't open til 4pm I believe.

Be aware with Modhesh world that some of the fairground type rides are payable once you are inside, and though they are only 10/15/20 it can quickly rack up! It's good fun though I seemed to come out with not much change from AED 300 :\: edited by Tattie Bogle on 21/06/2013

My DSS strategy is to wait until all the Snow-Birds leave for the Summer and then descend on the Mall. Nice, quiet shops. Racks filled with delightful bargains. Nobody elbowing anyone out of the way. ah, bliss. Roll on Summer. :-P

Hi Appletiser Is your tenancy contract in DH's name, or has it ended up in the company's name, which would explain why they are asking for a copy of the TL? Depending on your answer, you should go back armed with - copy of TL - copy of PP/Visa of TL manager - original dewa bill showing DH's name on bill - original tenancy contract - DH's pp/visa copy - LL pp/visa copy - Copy of title deeds to match LL pp copy. (If TC is only in DH's name you can cut 1 & 2 out from above). you can do the stamping as well at the Municipality buildings, the one next to Noor Islamic Bank metro station is a good one. hth.
