NO NO NO!!! (JMO and I've never had one so feel free to ignore!). Even after her visa is cancelled she is still your responsibility til she exits the country - if she runs away tonight/tomorrow she will be under your name still.

and a vote for the other side to even things up! We know lots of people (ourselves included) who are very happy with property investments in the UAE, although admittedly all are long term UAE residents and plan to remain so.

I thought it is not illegal (unless you are paying a teacher!), but that you can't then join a school later down the line as you don't have the transfer papers that you need.

It would definitely make life easier - however I'm sure it is much more of a bane to have a child with a severe nut allergy who rely on others adhering to rules to ensure their childs' safety!

Similar thread a few weeks ago! http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic205258-terrified-of-driving.aspx You'll be fine, but it would probably be good if you talked through your route on here so we can see if there is a better/less scary way for you to go for your first trip!

Sb you don't need to justify your decision to anyone. I for one was denied all sugar and treats as a child. My lunchbox consisted of a cheese roll, juice box and pack of raisins whereas all the other kids got hula hoops, wagon wheels, Um bongo and all sorts. Consequently when I went to secondary school and walked there from the bus stop, I would stop off at Spar and stuff my face with Cola bottle sweets, chocolates, crisps etc at 8am! I still have issues with bad and naughty foods and major guilt issues about them so my point is, a few treats does them no harm and I think is better in the long run! OMG same same. We craved Fridays when we were allowed 15p for a packet of roast beef monster munch!! otherwise all 'goodies' were kept under lock and key (no, not joking) in a cupboard. Consequently when I turned 15 and got my first job I was freeeeeee and could buy all the junk I wanted! Not sure I have ever stopped. :( I now purposefully never make food items a treat for LO or as a reward for something. There are too many long term food issues involved!! edited by Tattie Bogle on 21/05/2013

Ribena-gate :D SB, i'm sure lots of us remember the probs you had (not you personally!) with constipation so it's good that you have found something to help. Ribena is great for constipation. I'm sure in the grand scheme of her day it all balances out!

ok, here's a thing. are we all more sensitive now and more in tune with feeling slight tremors? OR have we always felt them and the resulting dizziness but have only recently realised what they are?

I also keep feeling dizzy, on and off or like whatever I'm sitting on or lying on is moving slightly. When it happens i always look up at our ceiling lights to see if they're swaying at all but they never seem to be so i just keep thinking I'm imagining it! Glad to hear I'm not actually going completely nuts!! EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!! I feel like I am constantly looking at the ceiling!!

With your morning sickness (i.e. all day sickness), did you have it for the full 9 months? (Convinced that morning sickness is related to inner ear).

Hi Zannie yes for all visas the contract now has to have the Ejari stamp. You'll need your [i'>original[/i'> tenancy contract, passport copies/visa of the people on the T contract as well as the landlord, copy of the title deed, and a dewa bill. Ejari counters are in some of the municipality centres, the one on SZR near Noor Islamic bank metro station has one. HTH

it would have been finger prints, palm prints, side of hand etc etc - if he's done all of that then nothing more to be done, he'll receive an SMS when it is to be collected (or his office will possibly receive the SMS and collect for him!).

For some reason I am reminded of old EW legend where the maid refused to come out of her room and would only talk to the Madam through a window - she had someone living in her room with her - this may or may not have been the same maid who then gave birth in the kitchen?! Does anyone remember these tales?! off to find them.......!

Hi Lady, If he's already got his visa then his ID card application form must already be done, as the application is now required as part of getting his visa. He will need to find the piece of paper that has the bar code on it. (Perhaps his HR dept has it) He may have already made an appointment - otherwise, there are certain places that you can turn up and have your fingerprinting done (Knowledge Village being your closest), he would need the piece of paper above and his passport. His ID card will then be delivered to the PO box mentioned on the application form. hth.
