PS take lots of cash with you, as only cash is accepted and the ATM from that building seems to have vanished.

First of all, you will need to do the typing for new residency applications for all of you. You will need all of the passports including DH's. DH will also have to sign these forms, so either take DH with you to do this, or you will have to go twice. Once the typing is done, you need to submit it to immigration. They will provide you with a piece of paper which you will have to take to get your medical done. A list of where you can get your medical done is here http://www.dha.gov.ae/EN/ServiceCatalogue/eServices/MedicalFitness/Pages/MedicalFitnessCenters.aspx (Dont'forget to take pp photos with you for your medical). You will also need your Ejari stamped tenancy contract. then it's back to Immigration for the final typing & visa stamping. It is best if you do the application at a centre which has typing centres. The new municipality building on SZR near Al Manara St (next to Noor Islamic Bank metro station) is good as everything apart from medical is under one roof. ETA. This link is quite helpful and also mentions the salary certificate which DH will need to get from his employer, forgot about that. http://www.dubaifaqs.com/visa-residence-dubai.php <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 09/04/2013</em>

TDB, two little phrases which have helped me up from the bottom over the years. 1) Everything happens for a reason 2) To have a rainbow, you've got to have a little rain. In years to come, she'll look back and think thank GOODNESS all that happened, as what is happening now will lead her on her next journey. Have faith. Something good is round the corner. x

One of the chaps from Jim'll Fix it was on the radio the other day explaining why this is. This is not as technical as he explained it but he said the smell comes from when a sink is unused (i.e. a spare bathroom etc) and you just need to run the taps once a week for a minute in all of your sinks (which you are doing anyway in the kitchen) but to make sure you are also doing sinks you don't use much. To clear the water which is in the pipes. Wish I had known this years ago!!! hth.

Lady D, Hope it's not too late, was in Creek Park today and noticed the cable cars are currently closed for maintenance. Not sure if that was just a time of day thing or for a while. Did however see a camel, donkey and horse so you are def ok for rides :D

thats surely for normal post, not registered... would need to go to a physical address to say its been delivered etc just like courier dhl or amaramex etc. No, Loube is correct. Mail that has been sent by registered post goes to the PO Box and you are notified of it being there with a white slip of paper with a bar code. You then take the paper to the post office to collect.

You should bring approval for any medication on the banned or restricted list. What you are supposed to bring is a letter from your doctor along with your prescriptions. To ensure the authenticity of the prescription it should be notarised by a public notary, attested at the foreign affairs authority in your country and then counter attested by the UAE Embassy in your country. In practice most people just bring their prescription. once you are registered with a Dr you will be able to register for your medications here.

If you actually look at your visa, it says something along the lines of it outside the UAE for 6 months then the visa is automatically cancelled. If you have no intentions of coming back to UAE within the next six months then I would suggest you let your visa lapse. If you do this you are automatically marked as absconding and would have problems at immigration next time you enter the UAE. I am not sure how the visa will be cancelled without your DH signature (as your sponsor). If it's under 6 months since you left he needs your passport and if over, just a copy. http://www.visasdubai.com/visa_residence_dubai.html

There are camels for rides in Creek Park (which is beautiful, make sure you walk over to the creek side of it!) There are also cable cars there which would be lovely for a visitor (but check the timings of them in case they only open after 4 or something).

Are you trying to sell it? As long as he buys it with all of the correct documentation and you do the transfer at the Land Department (where you will receive the funds by manager's chq), it's not really any of your concern what he does with it afterwards - if he wants to rent it out to the circus and hang pink elephants from the window, it won't matter to you! :)

With some of the more established companies like Molly Maids, once you've had the same girl out a few times and trust her you may feel comfortable in handing a key to the company. Then you can go out and when you come back it's all done and it doesn't matter if you are out for the 4 hours. :D The companies who do offer 2 hour services tend to only do it in the centre of Dubai.

It is not that you need an NOC from your husband, you need an NOC from your [i'>sponsor [/i'> - because your DH is your sponsor, yes it comes from him. Your DH also needed one from [i'>his[/i'> sponsor, i.e. his company. The manager on the trade license had to sign & stamp it with the company stamp. ;)

OP, yes you can manage without help, but ultimately you will end up a little more frazzled, harrassed and just when you think you can sit down and have a glass of your favourite juice, you'll remember that you still have the lunches to pack, uniforms to iron and bags to sort. From experience. :-P Getting help is the way forward!
