The cost for a labour card is nothing like the figures mentioned below! You are quoting the cost of a visa, not the labour card. Outspan, it's required, because it's the law. If you could post which sort of zone the trade license is from, those with experience in that area will talk you through exactly how to apply for your card with the relevant immigration authority.

Suze it's certainly a culture thing with some of our DH's - they just haven't been brought up to think of themselves as the ones to get up in the night or do ironing etc. Western DH's are more aligned to that way of thinking but ones from the East are not so much! They are not doing it to be mean or selfish, it's just outwith their way of thinking!

Oh TDB. Big hugs. xxx Some tips that have helped us along the way (or would have, had we done any of them, lol). - get DH to do a nightfeed. If you get into bed at 9 and he does the one at around midnight, then if you do the next one at 3 then you've had 6 hours. Of course going to bed at 8/9 seems like a cop out, but for the first few months just go with it until you have built yourself back up. Remember you are still recovering from birth really! - get a crockpot and shove all your dinner things in the morning - when you get home from work, dinner will be ready and that's one less thing to do, and only one pot to put in the dishwasher! -for the first few months make your life easier by picking up pre-chopped vegetables etc, they are a bit more expensive but just take that little bit of extra stress out of your life! - can you also get DH to do the morning nursery drop? It will give you an hour to yourself in the morning before you have to go to work, just chill for a bit, do some yoga, anything to destress and be ready for the day. - a big yes to help, either laundry delivery/collection or some time out for you and DH to get to the pictures or something at the weekend. - Getting things ready the night before, even down to putting clothes out for everyone, really helps with morning stress. - call out a home-service for a massage/mani pedi. You deserve some TLC too! - i agree with previous post of doing marathon cooking sessions at the weekends (bologneses etc) and freeze them all up ready to be chucked in the micro when you come in. When is your rent due for renewal?

Some more ideas if they haven't been already mentioned in the fab ideas below!! :) - Creek park (cable cars & camel rides etc, lovely views of the creek). Entrance <10 AED. - Children's City (Inside creek park - an interactive science centre for kids - Entrance 15 AED - Mushriff Park (enormous! lovely natural forestry/park, huge cycle track, horses, loads of places to bbq. Also themed little ''houses" for kids to play in, each house is built in the style of that country, China, a windmill from Holland etc. really nice. Entrance 10 AED per car. - Mushriff Park & Mamzar Park also have public swimming pools, I think entrance is either 15/20. - The Old Library in MOE http://www.theoldlibrary.ae/ - Breakfast in Karama or Bur Dubai - you'll pay around 10 AED for a slap up meal in a little Indian eatery! - Al AIn Wildlife Park - lovely big safari park - partnered with San Diego zoo - animals have loads of space. Entrance <20 AED. - Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary - http://www.wildlife.ae/en/ - free!

Elmpark you don't need your certificates attesting to process your labour card. You need - NOC from DH - Passport/visa copies - Employment contract - photos HTH.

Hi EP. Your labour card shouldn't really take more than 7-14 days to be processed (and usually much less), you'd be fine working during that time as you are in the system and just waiting to receive your card. I guess what you have to ensure is that the company really has applied for it! ;) Will you be on DH's visa?

Adol is the local one prescribed, though be aware that the dosage is double (either Calpol when 5ml = 10ml Adol, or the other way round - check!)

Yes be very wary as this is how scammers work. It's probably legitimate in that the LL may have bought a long time ago when if you didn't have a mortgage you could process TDs in your own time, and he may just be putting off having to get it as it's expensive. However, you probably don't want to take the risk!

If you go to the Blood Donation centre at Latifa Hospital they will do a pinprick test and will tell you there and then what blood type you are and also if you have enough heooglobin (sp) to donate and can do a good deed at the same time ;)

You'll find tons of scrumptious options in Indian restaurants which bustle in breakfast trade esp at the weekends. Masala Dosas (Dosas made from lentil flour) and yummy potato filling, with coconut chutneys on the side and a curry. If you haven't had an indian breakfast before you may find it odd to have curry for breakfast but once you've tried it there is no going back ;) The only thing you may need to query with them is their ghee - but you should definitely be able to find some that are completely vegan friendly. Are you familiar with restaurants to try these or do you need some pointers? Enjoy! (slurp)

i made a kind of 'keema' last week with tiny chopped up potatoes, a couple of tomatoes, onions, garlic, ginger and peas with some garam masala. Not sure how authentic it was but it got gobbled up ;)

Slightly off topic but still as BP-raising-worthy, I recently had to complete an indemnity for some lost paperwork for a business account. I asked the bank for the standard letter which was then duly signed by all the signatories. On submitting it, they wouldn't accept it as the sentence "....has been lost." was not followed by "BY XYZ". I said - if the letter is supposed to say lost by xyz, why do you not put that in the letter instead of sending the blank letter and the person completing it and then it not being accepted!!! Then they made a fuss about the letter saying, "We, the applicant" - saying that the applicant part should have been changed to the company name - if that's so, a) why would you not put it in XXXX the same as the rest of the letter and b) NO it doesn't even make sense when reading the letter it is SUPPOSED to say the applicant. AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH. Don't even need to tell you which bank it is, do I?!

another all-summerer here. as long as you just mix things up a bit it's fine! do things early morn/late evening instead. Children really enjoy camps, they make some good friends that they see every year and they do fun things. We also make an effort to find out who will be around over the summer and make sure to arrange lots of playdates etc. We are lucky that most of our friends also stay/work over the summer so am not sure DS even notices a difference really, it's just normal life!
