Moglets, for the premium one day service in the UK, be aware that you can't use the form that you get online here - it has to be a 'real' application form from the post office in UK. :)

Yes you can do it, take a letter from your Dh confirming you can do it, but you probbaly won't be asked for it, make sure you have both of your pp & visa copies. the centres mostly open at 7.30-8am, there is a fastrack queue but if you go nice and early around 8/8.30 you can be in and out in 45 minutes so there is no point in paying for the fast track. it's very painless and a seamless service :) http://www.rta.ae/wpsv5/wps/portal/Branches?SwitchToLatestLocale=true

You can do it in the DNATA building on SZR. Although it's open before 9 I am not sure you can do it before then, so wait until 9am. It's a straightforward procedure and you'll get it straightaway, though remember your DL and your passport. I also think I took an NOC from DH last time but can't remember if I needed it or not. Take photos too in case you need them. It's under 200 AED i think.

AA rather than killing them could you not just end their contract and send them home (with or without their 12 month's worth of salary and their unpaid holiday leave). it seems a bit harsh to kill them. Have you thought about giving them a botox jab or taking them out for dinner with you to an adult-only zone?

Romantic Valentines Dinner is swiftly going down the drain! ok, so this time it's an Ariston, big oven (that's about as much info you have on the model :D) and i am holding the lighter in for what feels like a minute, I have pushed the dial round to 240 and the oven has warmed a bit but it's def not at 240 - how do you know when it's fully lit?? the bottom paart of the oven seems to be stuck on so you cant see how many burners are lit. ARGH! Help!!!

[ It isnt true from my point of view at all Most companies prefer to sponsor maybe it depends on the industry, or maybe you are dealing with a different level of candidate Ldvs, :) - for a lot of the jobs advertised on the Jobs section of EW they mention being on DH sponsorship (this one for example[i'> Fluency in English is required for all posts. Please note these are local hire positions. Preference will be given to applicants on husband/family sponsorship[/i'>) so it probably depends on what sort of position October and Cocopops are going for :)

Companies usually prefer to hire when the lady is on DH sponsorship as it saves them money on visa costs (just the labour card cost is pretty cheap :) ) - LDVS didn't we have this conversation recently :) The actual document attestation is only required when processing a visa, so if you stay on DH visa and just have the labour card, no need to submit any of your education certificates*. Have a chat with the HR person in your company, it should not affect your salary, though I guess that depends on your company and why they wanted to hire you on your own visa to start with - i.e. are you being hired as a local hire or not, have housing benefit etc. *edited to add unless the company had specifically requested to see them regardless of who's sponsorship you go on edited by Tattie Bogle on 14/02/2013

You are best taking his contract (and preferrably the contract that is filed with MOL) to the ministry of labour and asking them directly as they will know best. :)

yes that's what i mean. potential ways out:- 1. if the job has manager in the title then you will need your certs. ask for the contract purposes to have a different title, (for example supervisor) that would not require the certs. 2. Stay on DH sponsorship, no need for document attestation

BTW it's cheaper to do it on the premium service in the UK which is 4 hours............you just book it on the phone and next time you go to uk just go there... *note* for premium service appointments you can't use the forms that you print online, you need a proper paper form from post office. get a bunch next time you are there in advance.

what about seeing a different side to Dubai - in Bur Dubai/Karama/Satwa you can see so much life happening in the morning as people bustle around. in some of the little restaurants there are people from all over the world our bill this morning was 12 AED which included 2 breakfasts, coffee, water and a little juice. :D might give them another view of Dubai which they might not see otherwise. edited by Tattie Bogle on 10/02/2013

If the Egate is unmanned (for example at Shj airport) then we normally just approach the manned normal gates from reverse, explain situation and they stamp passport. it's not a problem. better for the mum to do it though :)

PS he says the Binoculars Celestron Skymaster 15x70 (which he has not tried yet) would be a good alternative if you didn't want to spend so much and less hassle than setting up a telescope but not as good quality

SJ he did months of research before selecting that one and going through reviews etc. I will ask him later. The problem he finds is that Dubai is very bright, you really have to go right out in to the desert with it to really be able to see anything. There is a Dubai star gazing club by the way, they meet up and go into the desert with their telescopes :)

I have been thinking about this a LOT of the past 8 motnhs, I turn 35 in a few days and I know my body is not getting any younger ... I know I want one, possibly 2, can't imagine a life without them in my future, but when! When do they fit in ?? Polly I don't think there is any perfect time, there is no preparation for that little bundle that changes every aspect of your life in every imaginable way! I also don't think you can talk about pros/cons, as your own children will be the single most fabulous thing to ever happen to you - every minute of lost sleep is worth it (and there are lots ;) ), every aspect that you could consider a con (lost time between you and DH) can be turned in to a pro (family time!). It's a very personal decision and you all only know what is best for you. IMO though, you would never regret having children, but would you regret not having them? only you know the answer to that. Good luck, whatever you decide :)

Do you remember the Ritz crackers that used to have (what the manufacturers described as) cheese in them? Used to love those - a true salt fest. Oh I could sit and eat a packet of them now! Anyone see them out here? am sure they are here - maybe not Ritz brand though - try Union Co-op?
