i also thought shepherds was lamb (sheep) and cottage was beef but am not sure why and too lazy to google ok. rain has been nice and all but i need to dry current load of washing and still another to dry after that?? school uniforms??? no tumble drier today. aaaagh!

When it comes to maids, laws (and cattle prods) there is nobody who knows more on the subject so it is probably best to heed CMB's advice and stick to the law :)

With these condenser driers, what can happen is that if the steam builds up too much (and if you do one load after another etc) then the steam goes in to the electrics so it shuts down. It is quite easy to reset, ask the guys when they come out to show you how they do it, DH watched them so we know how to do it ourselves now to save calling them back out (obviously when it is safe to switch baack on). You need to leave it for a few hours. make sure the room is well ventilated when the drier is on.

if you are on a budget the Formulaa Academy does free haircuts, they are supervised by the trainer who is (or was, its a long time since i;ve been) fantastic. it does take a long time though!

I would also agree with everyone else and say just do it, for the sake of your marriage. It will only cause problems between you if you say no now, and given that you are leaving in a few months then it is bearable. (Get a big calendar and start ticking off the days)! What a horrible situation, she sounds awful!!!!!!!!

There's nowhere more romantic than out in the desert, so beautiful out there with the lovely sand dunes and peaceful! Pack up a romantic picnic with a rug/etc. (but don't go offroad unless a group of you!) Otherwise what about a drive to the top of Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain - an evening/sunset shwarma picnic The parks are just beautiful just now, Mushrif Park with a bbq/basket of goodies and a rug would be lovely.

It's great though that DHs have a hobby! Yes I do agree october - it's great for them to destress and switch off after a hard week at work. what's a few screwdrivers. actually DH had a whole plane-stand thing built so they can tinker & no need for dining room tables. maybe he should go into business/production?! anyway, nothing to stop us getting involved in these hobbies. :\:

and I am constantly getting strange bits of remote control plane bits delivered to my work from the far flung corners of the globe. I am probably on some sort of watch list as a potential spy! Oh, and the alarm going off at 5.30 am on a fFriday when he goes out to fly them. Oh, and no maid becasue the maids room is full of tut (planes in various states incompletion) omg we are actually twins - same same <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 31/01/2013</em>

ROFLMAO :D , he bought 1K worth of remote control plane parts... From a fellow sufferer..........I feel your pain!!!! Talking about Spinneys. Why is that yes for 800 you could feed your family for a week, yet when DH goes and spends the same amounta you still have to go the next day for a full shop as nothing that comes home you can make a meal out of!!!

are you saying that you are going on the company's sponsorship rather than staying on your DH's? if you stay on your DH's sponsorship and just obtain the labour card (which is v cheap for the company btw) it is unlikely that they would ask for certificates to be attested. :)

Deckname, I *think* you can work from home for a company abroad as long as you are having no dealings in the UAE or with any UAE companies/no money changing hands here etc. If it was all happening outside of the UAE with regards to work/money etc then wouldn't he really just be a house husband in terms of UAE law? so no need for NOCs etc? If nobody on EW knows then you could check with ministry of labour directly!

Hi, Working is mostly not allowed to who is sponsored by spouse, there are some exceptions that a NOC letter can be issued, I believe some part time jobs like secretary and things like this. Sorry, but this is not correct. There are thousands and thousands of wives working for companies whilst on their husband's sponsorship. The husband writes a letter of no objection and the company processes a labour card (or PIC card/depending on federal dubai/freezone etc) and labour contract which are filed with the ministry of labour. the jobs do not have to be part time and these are not special circumstances/exceptions. :) Not sure about DW sponsoring DH but there are plenty on EW who do it and are bound to be along later to explain how!

apparently applying for a replacement after a lost one is not too difficult (according to the good ladies of EW). You will have problems when your visa expires if you don't have one! Go on Di. Do it for research purposes. :-P

I applied for mine last summer and still have not received it, been back to typing centre several times, they have email EIDA and I have emailed, gone to live chat and called EIDA, no one can tell me anything. ok in your case, you have now 'lost' it, and should apply for a replacement ;)

Audrey there may well be no issue at all. All of the rest of us received an SMS when our cards were ready and then collected them from the Post Office we nominated (or the Post Office where our PO Box is linked to) - why would this not be with the case with you? I know the process has changed with the visa scan but it could just be taking a week or two to print/send your card. FYI It took on average 2 months from doing fingerprints to receiving the card, until even 6 months ago. hope that helps a bit!

Can't help much with the debt situation, but to follow on to TDB's post - we lived on a tight budget for a while and some of the things that helped us:- - meal planning; once a week just open all of your cupboards and see what you have got to make a meal out of or that wouldnt need a lot more to add to it. then plan out your meals for the week or fortnight - bulk cook & freeze extras for the following week. Write your shopping list exactly as you need it & try to order shopping from a supermarket that delivers so you are not buying any extras. - stick to local fruit/veg/other things that are made locally rather than imported, yoghurts etc. you can cut your shopping bill substantially by doing all of this. You would be surprised at how you can live on 300AED a week for food! - cut out trips to the movies etc and (especially at this time of year!) enjoy the MANY free or low cost things that Dubai/UAE has to offer. There are tons of things to do! Parks/beaches/desert/drives to other Emirates/watching the skydiving/wandering round old Dubai and on abras etc, all free or nearly free and really enjoyable at this time of year. Even going to watch Dubai fountains etc, steer clear of the restaurants! - eating out can be done in some of the budget eateries, Karama, Satwa, Bur Dubai - all really yummy food but a fraction of the cost you'd pay in the other end of town! DD's friend died along with her mother who was driving, and a family friend in the back (one of three sisters; the other two survived, and I hope are on the road to recovery). Her poor brother has lost his mother and his sister. It's so sad that this kind of story isn't so unusual here. Very sorry to hear that SD.

there are loads of PRO companies that will do pretty much anything for you, but do you mean attestation like Ministry of Foreign Affairs etc, or if it is your attestation of your education certs, have you done all the pre-UAE bits? if you just do a search for PRO companies Dubai on google you will get a whole bunch :)
