You need to get down to Karama PO asap FF. They only keep them there for about a week before returning them and once they get back to the UK they disappear into a black hole!

JMO, but at 4 years old and starting school they are still very little and don't really need a lot of after school activities. They are often pretty tired after a very early start at school and a full-on day. Why don't you assess how tired she is during the first term before signing her up for anything and make a decision after the first term finishes? You may find she is pretty flaked out in the afternoons. if she's not, often a trip to the park during the cool months is the best thing of all. :) <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 19/08/2014</em>

Mrsb I hope you don't mind but i have some chicken related questions! 1. Where does it live and does it not mind being too hot, do you have to worry about that? 2. How many eggs would you say you get a week? 3. What do you feed it? 4. Are they noisy? 5. Do they need company or is it fine just having one? 6. How messy is it? 7. Would it be a problem having a small dog in the vicinity?! Thanks :)

The best thing is not to take it too seriously. At the end of the day this forum is just a business and a place to swap information. For most of us though I guess it's also a place to pop regularly to catch up with news and old faces (some spending longer on here than others :-P ) it really is not real life and people shouldn't take things to heart too much, we've all been there and had a slating at one time or another and sometimes you do need a thick skin. I do wish Admin would let us have a glimpse back in time to the old threads, just for a day. Those were entertaining ;)

If it's not actual a/c units you need (they will use a lot of power so make sure you have enough on your electricity load!) you can buy the huge fans at Dragonmart which have tubs at the bottom for water, keep chucking ice in them and the fans blow a mist of cool water. You could probably buy one or two to keep for the same price and they are quite effective!

A lot of extractor fan units don't actually extract anything out of your apartment/villa anyway - when you take it all apart it is really just a hood with a false chimney.........

Fresh organic best. What options are there for fresh organic milk in the UAE? Is the milk in the organic supermarkets fresh? (If so, how fresh, including air freight time etc?) Fresh milk has a pretty short shelf life. otherwise it will also be subject to UHT? As far as I know the only fresh organic milk available here is organilicious which at around AED 20 a bottle is probably out of most families' price range... <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 17/08/2014</em>

In this situation I would send the following email round the office:- DearBoss has advised that I am now in charge of the office cleaning, so to set this in motion I have attacged the cleaning schedule for us all, which commences tomorrow morning. Please review the schedule and let me know if there are any problems (holidays, meetings etc) which conflict with your duties so I can shuffle accordingly. I suggest we follow this for a month or so to see how it goes and if we find it doesn't work we can obtain some cleaning quotations from companies. For easy reference I have laminated the schedule and it is up in the staff room. Here's to a happy clean office! :)

Raj Dhani in Bur Dubai is supposed to be excellent according to a vegetarian Indian friend of mine I think Rajdhani has now closed, but they have opened a new thali restaurant called Maharaja Bhog - it is AED 35 for the thali and is scrumptious! OP, the Indian in the Zabeel Saraay is supposed to be very good, and also the one in the Grosvenor. Ushna at the Madinat is very nice. The Indian in the 4 Points Sheraton on bank street in Bur Dubai has won best restaurant with Time Out on a few occasions, it is quite noisy though as has live entertainment! Edited to say just read whole thread, not sure if any of the above are pure vegetarian. Another vote for Kamat though which I think is. Maharaja Bhog is also veg. <em>edited by Tattie Bogle on 05/08/2014</em>

Asti I don't agree with you that children don't play outdoors here - I think in most communities where there is outdoor space (like where the OP wants to live), apart from Summer where it's like the Pied Piper has been here, there are loads of children out. Sometimes it is hard to get them in! :D

This list may help 1. Public swimming pools at Mushrif Park/Mamzar Park (entrance fee for car is usually around 10 AED then 10 AED for the pool). 2. Mushrif Park has miles of cycle tracks, 10 AED for the car and there are donkeys, goats and little houses themed by different countries 3. Posh Paws petting farm, 10 AED entrance 4. Children's City Science centre, 15 AED entrance and you can stay all day (includes a soft play area & planetarium) 5. Late afternoon at the beach & shwarma picnic, 5 AED per shwarma 6. Some of the malls do these free 'shows' during Summer, (often they don't start til 4pm), but can be worth it if your LOs are into that sort of thing! A trip to the fountains at Dubai Mall is free and fun to sit outside and watch. 9. Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park 10. Any of the parks, there are loads of smaller free ones too. 11. Dubai Sports World (can go with scooters etc) at the Trade Centre, this says it is free, not sure but anyway will be v cheap if not free. http://www.timeoutdubai.com/sportandoutdoor/events/17310-dubai-sports-world#.U92kGPmSwXs 12. There is a lovely library at the top of MOE - register and go for an outing and pick up some nice books. They also do weekly story time for children but prob only when term starts again. http://www.theoldlibrary.ae/ 13. One of the cinemas does half price tickets one day a week, I think it's Reel Cinemas on a Tuesday but would need to investigate! 14. Al Nasr Leisureland (Ice Skating, Bowling etc) is much cheaper than other places http://www.alnasrll.com/rates.php 15. Sharjah Aquarium is a fraction of Dubai costs - http://www.sharjahaquarium.ae/Contact_Us.htm 16. SmartGate is only for Terminal 3 at the moment. Egate is now AED 325 and only payable in cash (2 years). By the way, are you doing it as you've changed your name? As there's no need unless it is up for renewal anyway. You'll need your passport, finger and your Emirates ID. If you are going to DNATA, Egate is only open from 9am. There is also an Egate desk in Immigration near Trade Centre roundabout.

You will need a referral for Wellwoman Cliinic and they will insist they do a routine mammogram before you get to see a doctor, this is ok if you want a mammogram but if like me you want to consult a specialist beforehand, as there were reasons a mammogram would not be possible, they were unwilling to allow me to book an appointment that way. Hi, I visit the Wellwoman clinic without a Dr referral. Dr Houriya currently has about a 3 month waiting list (!) so I visit her colleague Dr Shereen who is absolutely lovely. She'll do a full examination and then the ultrasound/mammogram (if necessary) is done at Allied Diagnostic downstairs. Good luck!

Hi Red, Welcome to Dubai. I hope in a few weeks that things look up for you and that the following tips help, remember that this is the hardest time of year to be here, in a few months the weather will be cool and will hopefully bring about a whole new outlook for you. 1. Drive your DH to work in the morning so you have the car for the day. 2. Stop being worried about your house - friends who would judge you on it are not friends! 3. Post what sort of job you are looking for (but also consider what you are going to do with your LOs. Maybe something like mystery shopping could work so you can be with LOs but a little bit of income coming in). 4. Get to some of the Mums/Tots meetups 5. Say where you are located (or pop up your email ad), I'm sure someone on here will be up for a natter and a cuppa! Following are a list of 20 low cost activities in Dubai for kids, some will be better for the cooler months but they are now only a couple of months away, or you could go later in the afternoon. :) 1.
