Hi Ladies, I am 7 months pregnant and before the baby arrives we want to bring in Pest Control. We plan to leave the house for 3-days and I won't be present during the process. But I would like to hear from experienced ladies here. Do I need to call maid agency for deep cleaning after 3-days when we move-in or a normal cleaning will do? Also please recommend a LICENSED PEST CONTROL in Dubai. Thank you :)

Hello everyone, I want to buy a new juicer but can't decide on any. If i go to the stores they confuse me more. Expensive is not necessarily the best... Can you ladies suggest me a brand from your own experience? Thanks P.S juicer compatible for veggies and fruits... edited by Tiamona on 02/08/2014

I was once racial abused by a Taxi driver. Then and there I took the license number and complained the RTA. They acted promptly and he was suspended for two weeks. Your case is much more objectionable. You should report if you haven't done it yet. It's been 2 1/2 months since my husband moved to Doha. Every single person he met questioned his shift from Dubai, even he started having doubts... There's no news about my visa, wonder how long it's going to take! All that I hear about Doha is just demoralising. Super Expensive, less job opportunities, not much to do outdoors, bad housing... What do I do :( Timmons, we lived in dubai for seven years as well and had to move to doha earlier this summer. My husband came in June and we joined July 1st...in less than three weeks we all( us and three kids) had our visas stamped and we didn't have to wait the six months period. ....I can tell you it wasn't pleasant in the beginning and I had lots of frustration moments...it's just harder to deal with people, everybody is less friendly, shopping options are way less...and quality of life is just not the same...starting with the veggies at the supermarket...to dining at the finest hotel in doha!!..as to being more expensive...I honestly find the supermarket shopping almost the same...eating out is more expensive here...and no good deals as we get from groupon or so in dubai.....simply because there isn't much competition due to lack of options. I can tell you living here gets easier by the day..and now actually we are all settled but definitely will not miss the first chance to move back to Dubai. Good luck Wow! lucky you But serious after so many negative feedbacks I am worried about his move even before me landing there :(.

She has a good job in Dubai and the children are happy in school. I like my job in Dubai, have my own visa but i can't live like this... away from Him. I know what you are saying and we have been doing so for the past 2 months, but even that's difficult. I want to live like a couple and moreover we don't have kids to keep me pre-occupied. I m worried about my job prospect there but i guess i will get to once i dive in. Thanks

P.S if the pain is going down to your leg it's not a good sign. Your nerves are getting pressed. You need to consult a good doc or physio soon. Take care.

I read your MIR report, this is exactly what I am suffering. Pain in the lower back which goes down my left leg. I saw a doc here in Dubai and he immediately suggested surgery. I would never go for spinal surgery without 2nd or 3rd consultancy. I visited another doc in my country and he said surgery is absolutely not necessary. Exercise and physiotherapy is the only way. My pain is now bearable. It's not gone completely but that's coz I am irregular with my lower back exercise. Exercise will help you strengthen your back muscles. It will take time but you have to do it regularly (unlike me). Also when you sit, cushion your back. It has to be supported. Wear comfortable shoes. I have stopped wearing heels completely. Sorry for all these instruction.... But I suffer from it and I know how bad it can get. There were days n night when I used to move around with hot water bag tied to my waist. Please visit a good physio n ask them to show u the exercises.

dependant on your passport type....... If your debit card is a visa card, then there should be no problem. There is a bank at the right hand side of the arrivals hall, if you can't arrange prepaid before you arrive (200+ person wait listed yesterday) and the officer at the counter doesn't take your debit card then you will be sent to the bank where they can take payment by other means. Yes my card is a visa card. What do you mean by depend on my "Passport type"? If you mean to say am I eligible to get a visa on arrival? Yes I do because of my profession. I cannot arrange a prepaid, it's going to take long.

there is a counter to the right of immigration where you can pay them via cash/debit card and they load the money onto a Qbank card which is accepted at the immigration desks. :-) So this I do before approaching the immigration officials, right?

Hi Tiamona, For cooking purposes a gas hob and electric oven is the best combination (IMO), however what type of cooker you get really depends on where you live. There are rules in place in many apartment buildings and even some villas which state you can only have an electric cooker. In terms of cost I'm not sure the cost of gas but I do know with an electric cooker used for all cooking and weekly baking in a house with 7 people (fridges. multiple TVs, AC's etc) does not come to more than QR 500 per month. Hope that helps. :D that QR500 figure does help a lot!! I haven't moved in yet, my husband is there alone at the moment. Will soon make a move... I will have loads of queries then... Hope u will be around :)

I visited a local bank yesterday, a trainee girl in her abaya was giving away tokens. I know how to speak basic Arabic, but to my surprise she didn't even bother to attempt to speak her language (I am presuming here). She asked me what I need in broken English and it took her time to understand what I wanted.. Tell me how to respond to OP's post... To be honest the whole of Dubai has been built as a carbon copy of the West. Whether people accept here or not but I have witnessed here how everyone tries to imitates European life and the accent they try to copy (oh God!). As for the salesgirl, (I stated this earlier) knowing Arabic must not have been a prerequisite. Let's not crucify the girl, it's the recruiter and the store owners. Yes, being polite and sensible is her responsibility.

I think I made a big mistake going for dinner near The Fountains on New Years Eve. The food was average in one of the popular restaurants, fountain show was good. But it took us 2 hours to reach the venue and got back home post 4 in the morning (bad traffic is an understatement). I vow never to go back there on NYE. And after my experience I would never take my elderly parents.

Yes I understand we should adjust our money purse and also adapt the changing circumstances, but shouldn't the govt or the concerned authorities step in when the population in general is unhappy about the rising expenses. I wonder if they even are aware of these supermarkets increasing the prices randomly. I think that the government is aware. Every so often a big sign is put up outside supermarkets by the relevant authorities stating what the prices of things are or should be. But those things are mainly staples and not luxury foods, under which items from the UK would be classified... What I find amusing is different areas of Dubai charge different prices on goods Some cheaper some more expensive. They should not be allowed to do this! Staffs in Al Maya, Dubai Marina once told me it's because of the property rent.

Thanks ladies. I still hear conflicting information about this. Many people try to work things around but I am scared to try and outsmart the law. We are applying for his Dubai visa and after he joins Doha office he will figure it out with his office. It seems a lot depends on the company. And he will also apply for multi exit permits. Thank you

My husband is moving to Doha to join a new company. After quitting here in Dubai and before joining the new one in Doha he will be under my sponsorship. What I want to find out is - can my husband hold Dubai residency visa sponsored by me (not by any company) and still obtain a work permit in Qatar (his Doha company will give residency visa only after 6 month)? If he holds the Dubai residency visa he can visit us anytime he wants till we all make a move. can you sponsor him, as only certain professions can Yes I can sponsor him.
