We found out we were moving to Dubai in June and could only get our children into a new school. We decided to go for NAS as we didn't want the added stress of a new school not opening in time as well as the usual stress of moving countries. We also had a really good meeting with the head's wife Sally Embley at the time. So far the school has been brilliant, the communication is excellent, the community is very friendly, the teachers are enthusiastic and keen to make things work, more importantly the school has been very open and honest about some issues or delays which makes a pleasant change from our UK school who would have laid the blame on a third party. The kids after school clubs are great and facilities amazing. I feel very lucky that my children attend this school and we are a part of it.

Hi Moonflower I am in same boat as you. I arrived in Dubai last week, don't drive yet and the taxi fares to and from JLT (where we are staying at moment ) are slowly creeping up on us (100 aed a round trip ) As from next week we will be in palm jumeirah too and I am planning to drive at some point as I find the bus pick up time too early for my two (9 and 7 years old). If you need any support to press bus company to change route let me know? On a separate note, would be nice to meet someone when I move in too - shall we exchange email addresses? No pressure ! ;) X

I know it's criminal and it's on top of the insurance premium ... But DH got job in July and we had to leave mid August, we didn't have time to shop around and hoping we would get a tenant within 45 days of us leaving UK. Who do you use then ? Might be worth contacting your company when ours is due for renewal. Thanks

Hi I used CIA insurance online for our house insurance. At time of leaving we did not have a tenant and they gave us 45 days from date of inception to find a tenant, if house still vacant after that date, they offered a special no tenant insurance for an extra £950 which will be pro-rated and refunded to us when tenants found. CIA are the underwriters and our insurance is through E-underwriting. Hope this helps.

Hi We are moving to Dubai at the end of the month so after a lot of research we decided to move all our banking from Lloyds to HSBC to make the most of their global view ( i.e. retaining a UK account and opening a Dubai account). The service hasn't been great for us, it has been very stressful in fact. We have had to go into our local UK Branch 4 times, been on the phone to International Banking for over 2 hours, been given wrong information, been money laundered as we were real gangsters! We now have a Premier Account in the UK which will enable us to quickly open an account in Dubai. I really hope that service in Dubai is better than the service we have had so far in UK.

Hi we are moving to Dubai next week and went to see the Kings school in Umm Sequeim in June - hoping to put our kids into the Al Barsha school. We are all very impressed with existing schools, children, facilities and ladies who met with us, it seemed very friendly and professional. We chickened out when a parent asked whether they could 100% confirm that the school would open in time and they couldn't specifically confirm. We then drove to the site and doubted that it would be open in time for our children. Good luck!

Hello ladies, We are due to relocate from uk to dubai this august and looking at areas to live. We viewed some houses in Arabian ranches. Can you tell me how long it takes to drive from there to JLT in morning and evening ? Also did any of you take some driving lessons when they arrived to help you deal with right hand driving and madness on roads ? Many thanks edited by tk100802 on 20/06/2014
