Speaking as someone who has been here for 20 years, my advice to you is this. Work out what really interests you and focus on developing those interests. It might be online or locally or both depending on what it is. Try to make friends through your interests and not through the parents of your children's friends. Do a lot of exploring - find out where you can buy whatever you need - plants souks, Dragonmart, discover areas that you would not usually go to. Get to know Dubai. Be open and friendly to everyone and you will soon make friends even though you may not share interests. It takes time - at least a year. When I came here there was only Jumeirah 1 and 2, a small Spinneys in Jumeirah and Deira City Centre. Be kind to yourself, be friendly and your life here will blossom.

Thank you Keepitsimple. Ducky now has a idyllic home, a vast, peaceful date farm with a large pond, lots of ducks, chickens and cats in a peaceful environment beneath the RAK mountains. An animal does not need to be a 'pet' to warrant a safe, secure and appropriate home but it does need a suitable environment.

Duck are not permitted on Al Hamra Golf course. I have a house there so know the club well. This one was just found close by and is presently being treated by a vet for a minor wound. Fortunately, I remembered someone I know who has a date farm with a large pond and ducks so the duck has a home.

Yes, definitely carry Unabridged Birth Certificates for minors (under 18 years of age) and if traveling without one of the biological parents then an affidavit document has to be completed and signed by the non traveling parent and then notarised by a lawyer. The document can be downloaded from the SA Embassy website in the UK and all SA Embassy Consulates and Embassy websites I would assume. If there are circumstances such as adoption or a missing or absent biological parent then extra documentation is required. All utterly ridiculous as no other country on the planet requires this from tourists or their own citizens when traveling. And regardless of what the SA Govn. has to say on the matter, the tourism industry knows how seriously South Africa has been affected by these un thought out and impractical rules.

I can remember when Jess Jumeirah opened, it was considered the inferior option to Dess and there was much brouhaha! Totally laughable and absurd of course but the subject of schools has always evoked anxiety amongst some parents. In my experience different schools serve the varying expectations of parents and needs of individual children. Last year a friend moved her two children in Yrs 2 and 4 to Dess from Repton. Her daughter is much, much happier at Dess as in the mother's opinion Dess offers a more nurturing environment. Her daughter doesn't have any learning issues but she just responds better in a more gentle learning environment. Her son however has not done well at Dess as he thrived on the academic pressure at Repton. They've decided to move him back to Repton in September to prepare him for the Common Entrance exam in England at 11 but his sister will remain at Dess.

Yes Repton Dubai and Foremarke are owned by the same holding company. Foremarke is the name of Repton Prep School in England. I have a son at Repton in England and a daughter at Repton Dubai. Having experience of both schools first hand the reality is somewhat different from the hearsay! Would be happy to answer any questions you have. Hope all goes well with your relocation.

Zimbomum, I can't help you with Hilton College but my sons were at Bishops College in Cape Town. If the information is not on the website I would just email them or phone. I wd be very surprised if there wasn't any learning support as I know that at Bishops there were boys who needed support in certain areas. Sorry I can't be of more help.

It's easy to make your own Union Jack bunting with this downloadable template. This is a triangular flag but rectangluar flags templates are also available on other template sites. Print out, cut out. fold over and stick to white cord. http://www.freefunfings.com/bunting/

If you are referring to torrents I think it is providing the programme is not for sale on dvd. In the UK programmes are legal to download on sites such as UKNova as their torrents are not for commercial release.

For those that are interested the 'Spanish' set that earlier posters are referring to was a piece by Chick Corea.

I am looking for a suitable, permanent home for two Sphynx (hairless) cats on behalf of their owner. Their owner is travelling almost constantly and feels that they deserve a better life than being left with a housekeeper who shows them little attention. One is male and one female. They are about 3 years old and were imported from the US. They are spayed and neutered CANNOT be bred from. They require a quick bath once every few weeks as their skin becomes oily but they are used to this. They are not to go outside during daylight hours as they can get sunburnt and develop skin cancer. They eat a diet of mostly Royal Canin or Hills available from vets and require a litter tray that should be changed and disinfected daily. They are extremely affectionate and curious cats. Full of fun and character. They are used to dogs and older children but a home with young children would not be suitable. If you would be interested in providing them with a permanent and loving home and do not mind undergoing a fairly indepth interview please contact me via email at [email protected] or text 050-3469060. No fee is being asked for the cats. For viewing anyone interested would have to be prepared to come to Al Hamra Village in Ras al Khaimah. edited by tokoloshe on 19/03/2011

I thoroughly enjoyed his performance and so did my children - but then they know his music and have been brought up on Motown! He is a musical genius and the band were of the extraordinary calibre that one would expect to be performing with him. At concerts such as this in Dubai there is always the contingent that go along to drink mostly, get in the way and treat it like a social event. Sadly they were not there to appreciate the enormous talent of Stevie Wonder and celebrate a man that has done so much good work, particularly for race relations, throughout the world. As far as people leaving early are concerned, many do this so that they do not get caught up in traffic. We stayed until the end and then drove back to Ras al Khaimah.
