Hello ladies, I heard that now, as there is problems with the labor law in philippines, labour supply companies are bringing maids from some african countries like ivory coast ( looking for french speaking nanny). does anyone knows if it is true? what are the nationalities allowed now? my nanny just informed me that she does not want to renew her contract so I'm looking for a new one. Thanks!

yes I understand, I also prefer to do the pick up to keep in touch with the shcool and the other kids but I finish work at 3.30 so leaving at 2 for lunch break is not an option ( too late). wellignton is the only shcool I know that does not provide this service for FS2.

hello ladies, I need your feedback as usual. My 4 years daughter may attend Wellignton international school in september. I came to know that there is no bus services for FS2 (unless she/he has a older sibling in the bus). is it true? I'm a working mother and picking her up at 2pm is not an option for me. Can someone confirm this information? thankuuuu

Very sorry to hear about your issue. Landlord cannot ask you to leave unless he gives 1 year notice. this is for sure. the law is very clear about it. regarding possible buyers visit, I had the same issue 3 years ago. it was a nightmare, visitors waking up kids, strangers in your house at any time of the day... so we informed the landlord that we will only accept visit two days a week, saturday and wednesday from 5pm to 7pm. that's it. We will not open the door at any other time/day. we were very strict on this. if someone ring the door on wednesday at 7pm i will not open ( last visitor should leave at 7 as it is bath time for the kids) good luck.

I'm also interested in the same. My daughter is 3 years old. I want to teach her some french trough playing. I speak french fluently but don't speak it with my daughter not to confuse her with many languages. I live in the Greens and would be interested in 1 or 2 sessions per week. thanks

you can contact a company called maxcom ( www.maxcom.ae) they will come to your house install the camera and the software in your computer. each camara cost 1250 AED and installation cost is 500 AED. you can check it from anywhere. it can also record. just be open about it and don't hide it, it is not nice. tell your nanny that you need to check on your kid when you are away, this is why you put the camara that's all. maxcom is very reliable.

yes. You will have to go to the consulate/Polo office in Al qusais to get a paper called OEC. it's quite easy. you need copy of her contract with imigration ( original + copy), copy of her passport+ residency, of the sponsor passport + residency( I guess its your husband) and 2 forms available in the internet that should be signed by the sponsor. it cost something around 120 AED and they give you the paper immediately. Don't forget to take original passport of the house maid.

I contacted them a couple of week ago to get a quote for a simple single bed ( 2mx1m). got the quote a couple of days later: 5660 AED!!!!! found it ridiculous. at this price, I better go to crate and barel, buy it and get it delivered the same date. My opinion: ridiculously expensive!

I'm really upset now with the 2nd concert announcement! why they did not say it from the beginning? People bought expensive packages because they thought there is no more tickets. Some people took the say off to queue at Virgin! This is ridiculous. I had to buy the general admission tickets and not the one I wanted. If I knew they will do a second concert I would have waited. I think they planned it all. I don’t think you can decide to organize a second concert in only 48 hours!

I think the hotels took them so you can buy them within a stupid 2 nights package ( ridiculous, specially when the concert is on Sunday evening!) Really upset about it. Also called virgin megastore, they are only selling the General admission tickets

just bought mine, general seating but I'm upset, i was logged in at 12 sharp and the seated tickets were already not available! ( I'm pregnant so decided that it's safer to go for seated tickets). it's not fair. if the sale is planned for a certain day and time, all tickets should be available at that time :-(

I would like to clarify this "once every 2 years" tickets, because as per the contract I have ( given to me by Dubai imigration) you have to pay for 1 ticket per contract, and as the contract is 1 year renewable, then you will have to pay the ticket each year. if what I wrote above is wrong, please let me know where I can get this "each 2 years" info officially? thanks

I posted the same two weeks ago. I only put cartoons for dinner time, no more than 20 min and shee eats much better like this, no discussion, no fight, no tamtrum. she just eats whatever I put in her plat, even difficut vegetables like lentil and turnip! I was thinking is it bad or is it good? I would like to remove this short TV time during Dinner ( BTW, I put it on the Ipdad, so she is still sitting on the table with us, not in front of the TV in the sofa) but it is only 20 min and she eats sooooooo much better like that. So After thinking about it and asking for advice, I decide to continue with the cartoons for a while, till she learn to like all vegetables and appreciate their taste, then gradually I fill remove it or during summer holidayd when we are not at home and the routine is different.

I know that it will be a very bad habit to remove but at the same time she is eating vegtables she will never eat without TV ( Like lentil) so I thought maybe I do it for a while till she learn to like the taste of some vegetables then I replace it by something else ( like books, toys..) but I can see the difficulties if she get used to it.

I'm an owner in the greens. when you do your calculation, please keep in mind the Service Fee, this year is around 18 AED per Sq.f so for example if you have a 2 bd ( approx area 1500 Sq.f) you will get a rent of approx 90K AED and you will have to pay a service fee of 27K so you are left with only 63K In greens, so far, the AC bill is included in the Service fee so paid by the landlord. The tenant just pay for the electrical consumption.

we just booked our flight with qatar airway, it's the cheapest ticket, only 1900 AED with one stop of 50 min in Doha. Arrival time is the same than Emirates flight, you just have to leave dubai one hour earlier. booked the hotel online with booking.com the travel agency was much more expensive

A cold shoulder for Dewa but Moody's reckons it's hot stuff Sean Cronin http://www.thenational.ae/thenationalconversation/industry-insights/energy/a-cold-shoulder-for-dewa-but-moodys-reckons-its-hot-stuff Nov 23, 2011 The email and mobile phone pinged within seconds of each other. The first was a press release from Moody's Investors Service upgrading the credit rating of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa). Then a text arrived from Dewa telling me my bill for the month was Dh3,800 (US$1,034). My Hobnob biscuit was lost to the depths of my mug from the shock of it. Moody's upgraded the utility because they said it was making progress in tackling some Dh4.4 billion in debts due by August. I imagine they've been making very good progress indeed based on what they've had out of my pocket in the past two months of the summer - almost Dh6,000 to be precise. I am not among the entities Moody's covers, but if I were, they would have probably downgraded me at the same time they upgraded Dewa. The press release would say Cronin is put on "negative credit watch" based on mounting water and electricity-related liabilities that are unsustainable without a sharp increase in earnings or an immediate programme of asset disposals. The main problem I had with the bill, aside from not having enough money to pay it, was that there was no evidence of profligate power usage to explain why it had more than trebled in a year. I checked the bank statements to see if my pregnant wife had bought an aluminium smelter she'd not told me about; you know, the nesting instinct. But I couldn't see anything. HSBC would have probably sent me a text if she had. When I enquired about the bill in the arctic-cold Dewa office, I was told I should be more energy conscious. "That's a bit rich," I thought. "You could keep penguins in here." Surely people who live in heavily refrigerated glass-houses shouldn't throw stones. The real genius bit came next with the offer to have my meter checked - at a cost of Dh30. Of course, it was found to be working perfectly. So then I owed Dh3,830. I bet Moody's hadn't factored in this extra windfall in its improved outlook. I didn't much like the suggestion that I had some kind of yeti-sized carbon footprint. Aside from the aircon, TV and white goods, our main electrical extravagance is the boy's Thomas and Friends train set. It wasn't easy telling a three-year-old one of his engines would have to go. Seeing his little bottom lip quiver as he was forced to choose between Percy and James was like watching that scene in Sophie's Choice all over again - but with miniature locomotives. Dewa has had to pay dearly for the billions of dollars it has borrowed in recent years, paying interest rates as high as 8.5 per cent to tempt investors to buy its debt offerings. Now its customers are also having to pay dearly as those debts are repaid. While the utility's credit profile improves, that of the wider economy is starting to get distinctly clammy. The rising cost of power in Dubai over the summer has been so sharp and severe it is bound to create stresses elsewhere in the emirate. Aside from the obvious inflationary effect, it will also hurt wider consumer spending. It is, of course, only right that consumers pay for the real cost of water and energy - so the gradual removal of subsidies should be encouraged. But it shouldn't happen overnight - even if it does produce a great end-of-term scorecard with straight "AAA"s from the ratings agencies. Never before has the onset of the winter had such a beneficial financial effect on Dewa's customers. These days the villa feels a bit like the Tropical House in London's Kew Gardens. We're thinking of growing bananas in the porch, which we could then sell to pay for the lights. With the banana proceeds and whatever we get from the electric toothbrushes on Dubizzle we should be able to put the air conditioning back on for a few days in August. I hope you're happy Dewa. And well done for your improved credit outlook. Shame about ours.
