I find that a lot of the shops keep the good deals for the last minute, so I normally have a good look for whatever I need at the beginning of the sale, and go back towards the end and tend to find it at a lower price. Not the case for all the shops though... Hunting for a handbag this year so let's see how it goes :)

Thank you Marroosh and Vivette! For those ladies interested in the topic, I have done some research into the Dr Organics and have read reviews that they are very good too. Apparently H&B have the exclusive in the UK so they may have them here too. But will start with my search for Tom's of Maine I think.

I was at the Cheesecake Factory recently with DS and I found it totally not kid friendly. Will not go back again, although we had a great South African waiter who understood our order, so that was quite refreshing :) edited by twin_butterfly on 18/12/2012

Thanks Wo777. We will be travelling with our son, a toddler. Beach preferably and budget is not too restricted as we haven't been doing a lot of fancy stuff around Dubai since DS was born so when we travel, we like to treat ourselves. We would most probably go for 3-4 nights. Thanks again xx

The was the BFC on the Mums & Bubs forum some time ago would was happy to give advice - not sure if she is still around as have not been following the episodes of EW recently. Otherwise the was a mention of a website kellymom some time ago which I never checked properly but you may like to have a look. And a very first Merry Christmas to little princess Layla and her parents xx

Thank you for all the tips Ladies. I will check Waitrose/Spinney's and explore some of the pharmacies in the area for Tom's of Maine I think. Loved Lush in my younger days so if I can't find it I might give them a try. I had heard of the white powder, just did not know the name although I think I might find that too messy to apply. And the recipe to make your own is quite interesting.

Feel exactly the same way, DCC. Got into the baby thing when I was 'mature' but still feel I had not done everything plus the bed rest + SAHM is giving me really itchy feet! It depends on how adventurous you are but I would say what is on offer here is rather limited. For stuff that is available locally I still have on my list learning to kitesurf, do at least one skydive and sleep under the stars in the desert. Hubby keeps on telling I am too old for that now plus need to make sure I am around for the next 50 years because I have a little person that needs me now... If you like dancing, I took 6 months of salsa classes here, and I absolutely loved it! If you can afford to go global, I had a blast staying at one of the islands on the Great Barrier Reef - Hayman. The highlight was a day out on a seaplane, spent flying over the Reef, snorkelling until our lips were blue, boat trip with underwater windows and a picnic on White Haven Beach. I loved every single minute of it! Another fab experience some years ago was a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. Our pilot loved taking us down in the canyon at great speed - we were all younger and a bit more irresponsible then so we thought it was the coolest thing. edited by twin_butterfly on 17/12/2012

I read on here quite a while back that someone used stickers to keep their kids busy during long flights. I bought a couple of sheets at Daiso which kept DS kept well busy for most of the return flight (outbound was at night which was an absolute nightmare but that would be a different post altogether). He was 16 months then so could just work with the 2 y.o. too.

Hello Ellaar, are you still planning to sell your KidBox? Sent you a mail but no answer so I thought I would write again on here just in case you see this. Please do let me know as I am planning to order it online over the weekend unless i hear from you. Thanks!

Haven't been to the Sharjah Wildlife Park but I liked the Al Ain Zoo because animals are not locked into a dark confined space, but roam around outdoor. It reminded me a little bit of the Australia Zoo. It is a bit of a hike but with a 2-year old you would probably not spend the whole day there. We came back just after lunch when the adults had their batteries recharged and the kiddies passed out as soon as the car engines were running.

I am just looking at the ELC brochure, and if she likes all things girlie, under 'art and creativity' they have the following items: Make your own masquerade masks Sew your own rag doll Decorate your own secret keeper Make your own butterfly windchime Make your own jewellery kit Decorate your own straw bag Decorate your own cupcake trinket box Make your onw bead jewellery These are all in the AED 59 to AED 79 budget. If you want to spend more, they have a ballgown, a princess outfit, a ballet dress and several fairy dresses. Mind you, if she is turning 5 now these dresses are all for 3 to 6 year olds. I am sure I have also seen quite a good variety of the art and creativity things at Carrefour.

I was in the same situation when DS was that age (and still am). There are quite a few good smaples on Pinterest, or you can also google it and you will find something that suits you and your family from one of the hundreds of mums blogs. I googled a few days ago as I also need to re-organise myself, and found lots and lots routines for stay at home mums.

Not sure if you know this already: if you struggle to find one, some nurseries have the choice of leaving your child with them for your choice of number of days a week, it doesn't necessarily have to be every day.

We were recently there for a wedding and our hotel had a bit of both. http://www.katathani.com/facilities-services/kids.html#facilities Breakfast though was not amazing. There is also a little boutique hotel with a lovely (Mom Tri's Kitchen) up on the cliff, to the right of the one where we stayed, which was perfect for romantic dinners. You can just walk up the steps from the hotel beach (which is not private) and there it is! Mind you, the town next door is hideous - filled with tacky shops, bars and restaurants for tourists. So if you are trying to do a bit of sightseeing, don't waste your time going there.

I am in two minds between P Gagnaire's and Pier Chic - one has the amazing food although not romantic, the other has the ambiance but the food is just ok. Not sure I will find the perfect restaurant so will have to compromise on smth. Have cancelled Pte Maison and will leave it for perhaps a weekend lunch when we don't sit that long as we have DS with us. As usual, thank you ladies. Have a fab weekend! edited by twin_butterfly on 29/11/2012

Thank you ladies. Just doing a search for other venues as we speak. Never been to Le Classique and toying with that idea now. I had forgotten about Vu's - haven't been there in years! Just reading some of the reviews it seems the atmosphere is better than the food - definitely a romantic spot though. I am not a fan of Gary Rhodes as as tv chef - to me he lacks the personality and passion some of the other chefs have but will have a good look at menu and reviews. Thanks BC4!

Shiseido do an oil-free line called Pureness which I have used for a few years now as I also have oily skin and it seems to work well for me. I think I pay around AED 140-150 for a bottle which lasts quite a few months.

Thanks KamW! By family friendly I meant something like the Punthill Little Bourke :) a bit space so that DS can run around the room and where we have space for his cot. We recently stayed at a W hotel and that was so not family friendly, but then i should have known better, although i did enjoy the treat ;) Will have a look at the locations and discuss with hubby. Thanks!

It felt a bit the same for me when I first moved here, but then I realised it just depends on the day. Some days I meet very nice neighbours in the lift or in the carpark. Some others it just feels like I am talking to myself when I go into the lift and say 'good morning', 'hello', etc (and yes, there are other people in the lift!) or I feel totally stupid for holding the door for some spoilt kid who cannot be bothered to get off his bike to go through the door that I opened to get in, but end up holding for the said brat while I am also carrying a 12-kg toddler + the bags of groceries. BTW hope it was not my kid trying to pull your pup's ears ... he he he ... he has a thing for chasing dogs, cats, birds, and anything that looks smaller than him ... But to confirm 'snowsahara's' comment, we have received a notice at Shams saying that anyone with pets has to get rid of them within 30 days ... this was a couple of weeks ago.

This is a pretty wild card but someone on here was talking about a place good for crafts called Creative Minds in Jumeirah Centre or Jumeirah Plaza. Last weekend, driving on the Umm Suqueim Rd towards the desert about 2 min past the MOE on the right side, I saw what looked like a huge Creative Minds, so not sure if it would be worth it having a check.

Yum yum ... I think we are sorted now for eateries. Thank you :) Has anyone travelled there to visit and stayed anywhere they would recommend? Hubby has just been checking for hotels and apparently over New Year's Eve they are triple the normal price - to be expected - but we want to make sure we stay somewhere that is family-friendly.

I had a very similar place with one of the Diners on the Walk - hubby and I just fancied different food on that day, so I decided to walk down to pick my order up. Got charged differently from the menu which I only noticed once I got home. Called to speak to the manager and it took me quite some time to make him understand. Finally he offered to give me the refund if I went back down again, which was not worth it for the AED 6 I was overcharged - I just wanted to bring it up. But thanks for sharing - we also order from Napoletana occasionally and will now watch what we are charged. Having said that, we tried 800pizza this weekend and it was equally good, if not better!

If I had had this experience, I would be asking for a refund for the term and getting my kid out straight away. There are nurseries where the parents are allowed to stay for the entire duration of the first day or even week (!) to help the tot settle into such a new environment. This should be the norm. Sorry, what you and your tot have experience is totally unacceptable - all of it!

Oh, where did you get it? Or are you planning to sell it? If so, is this because you are not happy with it? Have done lots of research and this one seems to be one with the best reviews - my Ipad will not survive one more landing on our floor in its adult-case, as DS keeps on dropping it! All corners are dented, and one is so badly damaged that one more fall and the screen will just pop out!
