I got a call recently from someone at etisalat asking for feedback on their service, and this is the one point I brought out. All he said was to write down the number and call them back to have this number blocked! But how ... and there are sooo many!

Bump as I would like to hear good things too from parents who have hopefully have some good feedback, Close to home but every interaction I have had with them so far has put me off - from walking in to ask for info and they were simply not interested to give any, to the latest being a teacher with a group of small toddlers just outside the nursery who was singing 'The wheels of the bus' to them but looking and sounding totally bored!

I agree - do not say anything to prospective employer at this stage. If it does go through, great! Then think of options: perhaps using this forum or other mums forums to ask for ideas or help or carpooling. You will be surprised at the response!

I often think of that lady who posted earlier this year whose mum drowned. When I sat on the JBR beach I said a little prayer for her. Loved that, Alismum ... I wonder how Alison is doing ... edited by twin_butterfly on 30/08/2012

Same same here ... today DS walked into the arms of a stranger (neighbour who happens to live in the same building but stranger as far as he and I are concerned, as our building has 40+ floors) as soon as we walked into our lift to go on our morning walk ... and then on the way out he also did the kiss-blowing thingy which she (neighbour) was ecstatic about ...

Ha ha ha ... following a suggestion from one of the mums on here to make finger paint for kiddies at home (so if cookie-monster type of toddler eats the paint there is no danger of intoxication), I also found a recipe for play dough made with kitchen ingredients (one of them, cream of tartar) which I am trying this weekend :)

SS123, we looked at them too, after I asked a hotel where I used to stay regularly for work (and sleep very well) which brand of mattress they used. To be honest, it depends on your weight, height and support your body and back need. So the best would be to try them and lie on them for a few minutes so that your body has time to settle and really feel the mattress, and perhaps go back a couple of times to decide which one suits YOU best. All the shops we visited offered us to go back so I am sure this is not unusual.

Thank you both :) This week he has done a little better and slept in the morning on most days (keeping a log at this stage). But I think I will just follow your suggestions and play it by ear. I just want to make sure he gets all the sleep his little body and brain need!

DS has been doing the opposite: 2 hours in the morning (10 - 12) and 45 min-1 hour (3 - 4ish) in the afternoon. Yesterday he sat in his cot until 12ish and then we had to leave the house so went in to get him and realised he had just fallen asleep! The poor soul ... The thing is, if he is not in bed by 10 he gets moody so I always presume he is tired and then once he is in his cot, he doesn't sleep!

DS is now 16 months and has been a good sleeper until a couple of months ago. Since, he does not always sleep during his morning nap although I leave him in his crib but I do hear him gurgling and playing. Some days he does, some days he does not. I cannot see a pattern... I used to have the video monitor in his room to see whether he actually slept but then decided to take it off as the light might distract him and keep him from falling asleep. During our summer holiday in Europe I heard him less during his naps so I have the feeling he slept more there. Now that we are back in Dubai I hear him playing in his cot again so I fear he might be weaning himself off a nap. Could you share at what age your LO dropped one of his naps? Also, how did you go about it?

We just had our new mattress delivered a few days ago - I do not love it but DH who always complaints about his back, seems to be happy with it. Tried the American Bed shop too and I must say that after trying a few more, we have found nothing that matches it (the chap also gave us a pillow to try that he recommended for each of us, and it was heaven!). But having only left another 18 months or so in Dubai (unless DH changes companies) we didn't want to end up having to cart it around the world with us, so settled for a 50% discount that we found during Ramadan at one of the shops in Karama (driving from SZR towards Dubai it is a few blocks past the Karama Post Office, on your left side). There were a couple of shops and a smaller American mattress shop next to it. Sorry can't remember the name. We also tried the Tempur but I do think the American Bed/Mattress felt the best.

I know what you mean - I also had DS being taken off my arms by a local lady who walked away kissing him at Dubai Mall. Last Wednesday at C4 queue for the cashier's this man behind us started stroking his face and his legs, chest etc ... I was close to saying 'please stop it' but was afraid of sounding rude and all the rest. This happens all the time - DS' hair is slightly ginger and complexion is very pale, so for some people he may look a bit unusual. So now I have decided that from now on, I will just tell people that he is very sick ... he he he ... so if you see a woman saying that to a stranger who is trying to grab her toddler, that is probably me! :)

I am not familiar with the performance model so can't say much about it - we have the sports one. But I would say that, given that bub will be propped against you, he will receive your body heat and there is no/little circulation of air between the two of you so I would suspect any model will not work very well for the summer months. In the winter ours was perfectly fine. Having said that, when I take DS for a walk in his stroller, his back is always sweated up in the summer (despite the Aerosleep mat we added which is supposed to aid ventilation) but at least his front is fully exposed.

Have just come back from summer break away and I find a huge brand new parking area in front of the Amwaj Rotana, plus a smaller construction site on the beach - does anyone know what this is (the construction site)?

I think I remember someone on here saying a while back that as long as your husband has residency is not a problem but I have also found this http://dubai.angloinfo.com/countries/uae/dubai/birth.asp. Might be safest checking with your embassy or even AH might have the answer. If it is fine to give birth while on tourist visa (I am sure you would not be the first one - with the high number of tourists visiting Dubai, someone must have given early birth), you can drive to the border in Hatta and renew with a 30-day stamp again. They actually allow you to stay in the country a whole 40 days (you need to renew once again on the 39th day) but the stamp does not say that. You can also double check that this has not changed with the officer at the border. Best of luck and happy moving - I am sure it will be easier than you anticipate (it always tends to be!) xx

I agree - definitely the Ergo. We bought a couple of others incl. a sling, and as bub grew he didn't fit anymore and the sling didn't look like it would hold the weight. It is super comfortable for mum as the weight falls on the hip. We always use the Ergo when we travel so that we don't have to take the pram with us (have ended up buying prams and car seats at both our countries of origin so that when we visit family the full set-up is already there). It is the best to go through airports (and do sight-seeing provided that the weather is not too hot) although in the UK and Australia they did ask me to take the baby off the carrier when going through the security check - anywhere else (Hong Kong, Spain, Middle East) has been fine. We bought ours at a shop called Bauhaus (sells funky fashion so quite surprised to find it there) in Ibn Batuta. We paid something like AED 425 at the shop.

I was watching recently a documentary on an African man who had moved to the US and was recycling hotels' soaps for kids in Africa. Have you thought of contacting some hotels locally and ask them for the little soap bars they throw away when their guests check out? The amount of toiletries discarded by hotels in quite unbelievable and would help many in the less privileged countries.

Clairehdp, are you no longer to use it either? Thanks Sue62, at this point I am looking at calls from Skype - that failing will have to look at your suggestion in more detail.

Been to both but I would vote for Qasr Al Sarab. It is newer and yes it is still going through the teething process but it has so much more of a wow factor! Al Maha is nice but quite dated by now and the food was rather unimpressive. I would say service is quite similar at both (or was when I stayed).

I don't know who can do this but hubby just painted the wall and we got very nice stickers from ACE Hardware. They have different themes and you can also get ideas on how to paint the wall from the box they come in. ETA - the brand is Fun To See if you want to have a look online before driving to ACE. edited by twin_butterfly on 17/04/2012

I bought ours at Bumble Bees - it is good for one bottle only at a time. We bought the tablets but have never used as I don't like the idea. I have also recently seen the sterilising bags at BabiesRUs - probably much easier to pack than the Tommee Tippee steriliser as far more compact, especially when you are already carrying loads of formula, bottles, nappies, etc

Hi, hope you a recovering well from your operation. Some time ago you had an ad to sell your Tots Bots (presume you found a buyer ages ago). Did you buy them here or you brought them from overseas? I have tried a website that is supposed to sell them locally tiny-tots.com but does not seem to be working :( Thanks!

Thank oI all for your suggestions and offers - I shall keep a record of them all for future reference. After checking Nuku's website, it appears she is the lady I was looking for! But she is out of the country so having it done by her assistant. She has been brilliant at responding and very accommodating. THANK YOU Amelia and SweetSugar! Also for those who normally order from Nicki of Frosted, i called her but she has stopped baking :(

Thank you Clairehdp! Will call her in the morning. I can bake but have never attempted anything artistic and it being a themed party, I would rather leave it to the professionals :) Have tried Sugar Daddy's before and they are ok but have recently tried at a brithday party the lovely themed cupcakes of the lady in The Springs (hopefully she is Nicky) and there were very cute and yummy too. If this does not work out, then might give Beebers' suggestion a try. Thank you all! edited by twin_butterfly on 07/04/2012

Green-ish is right: no beach in the world matches Whitehaven. Also, if you are going to be around the Sunshine Coast, Australia Zoo is not too far - I am sure even teens will enjoy seeing kangaroos, koalas and the rest (you may need a half day or even a full day if you want to see everything).

I have the first series of Shaun the Sheep - 'English' version :) not looking at selling and I do not think it is the kind of cartoon a 1-year old would appreciate or would be most educational, but happy to share it with you if you are still interested. I show DS short educational DVDs once or twice a week, like the Little Einstein's series (some of them) and some of the Brilliant Baby (Colours, Opposites, Food, Sounds, Shapes, etc) and Baby Road Trip (Jungle, Beach) which I found in Geant very cheap (@AED 7 per DVD, versus the approx AED 40 for the Little Einstein ones). ETA: Sorry, just realising that you want them in French ... duhhh! But in this case you can sit with your LO while the DVD plays and repeat what the DVD says in French (that is what I do with DS in Spanish). Also, why don't you also ask on the Mums and Bumps forum? I know some mums never come on this main forum as there is too much going on and difficult to keep up ;) edited by twin_butterfly on 03/04/2012
