Once upon a time ... he he he ... I had similar concerns so thought I would add the link of my thread which I hope helps: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=149151 Just to add that we have travelled a couple of times to Europe (not UK though) and once to HK/Australia (here we went through a total of 4 airports each way) with water, powder formula, mashed fruit and vegs etc in DS' bag and have never had an issue with it.

You have already found the answer :) seems like most mums here are on the same school of thought. If you need more reassurance, Dr Sears has a website where he supports attachment parenting (there are many others) - this seems to be the parenting style most seem to adopt today. We had DS falling on our chest for a few weeks because he was born a premie and we wanted to give him extra warmth + TLC. Well, he is now 11.5 months and has been until a few days ago going to sleep by himself - there will be phases and periods of adjustment, especially with travel, teething, illness, etc but on the overall you will work it out to the point where he will learn to be independent. So go ahead and enjoy your tiny bub falling asleep on your chest - the time where he will not want to will come soon enough!

DS is around the same age and when he got a cold (twice so far, through DH!), Dr prescribed Pediavit, a multi-vitamin complex. If you definitely want to go natural and he still does not take to citrus, kiwi which can be taken from 9 months onwards, has the same content of vitamin C as orange - I am holding all citrus until the 1 year mark as most of the stuff I have read recommends it from 12 months +. Hope your LO gets better - also wish I could help on the bedtime issue but unfortunately have the very same problem and now he is even ultra-clingy during the day ... hoping this phase will just pass ...

I was 40 and single until recently. Had a great career, many BF's, travelled the world (also for business and leisure) and lived in different countries, met super interesting people and did very interesting and fun things. Yes, had family pressure: 'when are you going to settle down?' and my answer always was: 'When I am ready'. To me it was not about settling down, as life is an experience to enjoy every minute of the way (it's not about reaching a destination but enjoying the jouney instead). Then i met a man who was as good as a man can be (for me) as a life partner and decided it was the right time to change my path. Now I am loving every minute of my life again, took a break from corporate life to be a full time mum - enjoying motherhood was something I had never suspected before, but here I am :) So don't let anyone be judgemental - your life has as much meaning as theirs - and enjoy life now as you have it, for this time will never come back. In life, there is a time for everything and everyone has to decide when that time is for them.

Wow thank you guys, my DH is worried that 3 days maybe a lot for BKK, after seeing all your replies then I dont think so.. is there a good Zoo that is worth seeing? also a question on make up, would you buy brand make up or would be fake? Yes, the Bangkok Zoo - the kids will love it. If you want to do a morning up at the floating market (we went to Damnoen Saduak - but you have to go VERY early in the morning), you can take a taxi and ask him to wait for you at the market, then on the way back to Bangkok drop you at the zoo. edited by twin_butterfly on 28/03/2012

I am sure it cannot be good for you - I avoid it as much as I can (both at home and in the car) but clearly with our lovely summer weather coming up one has to be practical. In JBR every now and again there must be something that flushes the ducts and all of a sudden you will see a small pile of dirt appearing right below the vents. We have one above the dinner table and I am sure one day we will end up eating something we had not planned with our dinner...

Have you checked Mini Monsters? Just checked their website and they seem to organise parties themselves but if you ask them nicely they may agree for you to pay the rental of the space and do the arrangements yourself. They may not do it but nothing lost in trying ...

Posted this on the Mums and Bumps forum but it is a bit quiet these days, so I am trying my luck here too: A bit stuck on ideas - what have you done for your toddlers' birthday parties? Ages of kids coming will be 2 months to 2 years mostly and then 3, 5 and 6 years. Thank you! edited by twin_butterfly on 26/03/2012

Stovetop, we did something quite similar to kiwispiers and he moved into sleeping full time in his own cot just after he was 10 months. I would completely darken up his room, have his lullaby playing and hold him until he fell asleep. We shortened the 'holding him' time gradually and started bringing down to the cot when he seemed drowsy enough until he started asking to go down into the cot himself. Oh and we also got him a sleeping bag and a sleeping 'buddy' - a giant stuffed toy that is very soft and he loves using as his pillow :) Transition period was about 2 weeks and there were no dramas :) edited by twin_butterfly on 26/03/2012

Hotels call them wedding planners but they are not a wedding planner as we know them, I.e. a self-sufficient person with experience, contacts etc ... They are wedding coordinators, so at entry level in their department. Just some feedback on hotels from when I was planning my own wedding: Park Hyatt Dubai were most accommodating and professional, whereas One&Only (I hate to say this because they still are my favourite hotel on Dubai beach) had the worst a attitude, the 'we don't need your business, thank you very much' kind. We ended up renting a yacht and taking on a catering company which in your case would not work due to capacity limitations - everyone said it was the best wedding party they had ever been to though ;) edited by twin_butterfly on 26/03/2012

wow ... Missed all the following replies! Thank you Ladies! MirdifIngrid, just a note to let you know that I have seen Dr Fallah and both DH and I really liked him. DH has seen many orthopaedic surgeons in his previous life as a sportsman and he was quite impressed by his confidence and bedside manners. But will make note of the other doctors too in case we need them :)

Arwa has some fluoride in it (<0.1 mg/l) and seems to be the most popular for babies/toddlers due to the low sodium content.

Re Baby Einstein DVDs, they are good - we bought a couple but later on discovered the much cheaper option: Brilliant Baby in Geant for AED 7 per disk! They are a bit hidden so you may need to ask for them as DH found them when looking for something completely different and the Baby Einstein were in the more obvious place. Now DS actually prefers the Brilliant Baby ones (we bought a whole lot) over the Baby Einstein ... Lol

Was in similar situation with DS although there had been no dilation the first time i was first admitted with contractions and I had the cerclage early in the pregnancy. My thoughts are with you - you can do it! Do let us know if you need more advice or ideas on how to keep yourself entertained through the coming weeks in bed.

I already shared my story on here recently after buying an exercise ball through Cobone. What I was given was a totally damaged rubber ball which had very clearly been sitting in the sun or somewhere very hot for a very long time. I only saw this when I got home as DH picked it up and did not think of opening the 'John Lewis' box it came in. Also a whole lot of items which according to the box were supposed to be in, were missing or the present (inflating device) had been downgraded. DH went to get it changed and apparently they we all damaged so he took least damaged one. The packaging inside the apparent 'John Lewis' box was of a very low standard soclearly this had never been a JL product - how they got the boxes, I don't know. Needless to say, this box is still sitting on the floor in our spare room waiting to be thrown away - I just don't have the energy to deal with some dodgy person and spend endless hours on the phone trying to get a refund. Later on I have checked for these balls in Sand and Sun, and their most expensive one (at full price) was under what this company sold as the discounted price. Serves me right for buying from these dodgy companies before checking what is out in the normal shops. So no more Cobone for me either I am afraid!

I would call them - DH bought a new car recently and sold the old one. He handled all his paperwork so cant tell you excatly what is needed (can ask him tonight if you still dont have an answer) but I am pretty sure he did everything over the phone or sent scanned copies of whatever documents were needed by email. Then they call you to collect the refund cheque from their main office in Wafi.

SR, I could have written your post :) now every time I come across and idea whether it is in an ad r from someone who has done something, I add it to my 'DH gift ideas'. For Christmas I bought him a drive experience in the Yas Circuit - all boys love cars so you can't go wrong with that. They have several types of experiences, driving lessons in race car, etc all at different price ranges. Having said that, up to this day I still ask DH on a weekly basis when he is planning to use his Christmas gift and all he says is that he does not want to be rushed into doing it .... Grrrr ...

If you are going to be in Queensland, near Sunshine Coast you MUST go to Australia Zoo: loads of koalas, kangaroos, and all the animals typical of Oz. It is more of a wildlife park than a zoo - plan a full morning minimum, a day is best. Other places worth visiting in QLD: Great Barrier Reef (some companies do fab day seaplane trips with snorkeling, stopping at Whitehaven Beach etc) and that is the right season for humpback whale watching trips (you can do this from Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Brisbane or Hervey Bay) which kids just love. More here: http://www.queenslandholidays.com.au/things-to-see-and-do/ If you want to add something non-naturey, you could do a stopover in Hong Kong and take them to Disneyland. Cathay Pacific are great with little passengers. Sorry I cannot recommend tour operators from here but I would just book flights and accommodation, and get tour operators there to do the land arrangements for you. You could also just rent a car and drive around yourself (if you are comfortable with driving on the left side of the road that is!). edited by twin_butterfly on 19/03/2012

It's the main reason we don't have one...the pain of doing my own cleaning is far outweighed by the joys of an empty house and the freedom to completely relax, AND i can leave my valuables laying around without worrying they'll be "liberated" :-) sorry, no help to the OP...plenty of people do it so it can't be that bad...just not right for us... Same here :)

If you live elsewhere, you can also ask Emirates Post to have it sent to your local branch. However, be prepared for a long wait! We asked for DS' to be sent to Barsha post office and were told it would arrive within 3-4 days but only got it 4 weeks later after pestering them with phone calls and visits to talk to the supervisor at the Barsha branch who ended up calling some habibi in Karama and finally got it the following day (he even called me on the mobile to say they had received it).

RIPE is hugely overpriced and the first (and last) time we bought from them by the fourth day everything we still had was off or going rotten. So much for freshness! For those living in the Abu Dhabi end of Marina/JBR, a new Choithrams opened about 3 weeks ago opposite the Lotus Hotel Apartments. It's lovely - clean, airy and has a very nice selection of organic produce, fish and meats. Hope they will maintain their standards!
