Yes, it is normal. The cramping normally comes just before your periods but it will eventually disappear. I had it for some time (years) after undergoing surgery of the uterus to remove fibromas and now, after a recent CS i do not feel any of it so it could be that it happens after your first incision only? In any case, I would not worry about it but if it makes you feel better, get a third opinion.

Cannot recall up to what weight bassinets take but we travelled six weeks ago with DS who was 9 months old at the time and the bassinet was almost too small although his weight was still below the limit.

Exact same comments as Mathilda, although if you are sensitive to noise you need to choose carefully as you have the show offs with the loud vehicles that do not realise (or do not care) that people actually live and sleep here. I have also recently recommended it to a friend living overseas wanting to buy as an investment. Location wise nothing beats it. BTW you also have banks, pharmacies, beauty salons, hairdressers and spas galore, all within walking distance. If you have kids, the Plaza level is totally safe to let them play above the traffic or take them for a walk, and there are also a number of daycare centres and playgrounds. If you are the sporty type many people use the water level walkway on the Marina for jogging, cycling, rollerblading, etc Have lived here for 2.5 years in two different buildings (rentals) and still a great fan :)

This goes beyond unprofessional. I have had interactions with this 'paper' at my last job and back then I was already appalled at their practices (basically I kept on refusing to buy advertising space with them and they tried to intimidate me with a letter signed by the owner, 'recommending' that I support them). Alison, you may want to take this up with the Department of Information, I would go above their head. Also the owner is one of the big Sheikhs, just can't remember who now (will dig out some of my reports if you really want to find out). I must say, it is good to see the Admin team have taken this on board but obviously, the 'paper' is not taking much notice. Alison, I am so sorry this disgraceful incident is only adding to your pain ... <em>edited by twin_butterfly on 26/02/2012</em>

JustKidding have their own brand which kind of fits but it's not very good. Sometimes they do get stock of MaxiCosi's covers. Otherwise I have also seen them at Bumble Bees (Dubai Mall)

Can only reinforce what Kiwi says. I had previous surgery in my uterus and my usual doctor talked to me about VB versus 'elective' CS but when I was admitted with early contractions, the doctor on duty would not even consider VB as the risk of uterus rapture during contractions was too high and very swiftly organised a team in the operation theatre for a CS. Is your doctor aware of your full history? If he insists on 'elective' CS you may want to talk to a different doctor, as it does seem to vary from one to another.

Great to know, thanks SueB. A few dodgy offers on Cobone too, to be perfectly frank. I recently bought an exercise ball and when had delivered, it came in a John Lewis' box so was rather impressed BUT the ball was all damaged (the plastic/rubber surface was all bubbled up) and none of the bits that were supposed to come with it (as per the JL box contents list) was in it. We asked to have it replaced and all balls we were shown had some sort of damage. We ended up taking the least damaged one in gold colour (ouch!) but the product in the box is definitely not a JL product, rather some dodgy 'made in China' product. BTW, I would probably delete the name of the lady that sent you the letter as she may not like to have it published (or you may opt to ask for her permission to put it on here). <em>edited by twin_butterfly on 26/02/2012</em>

Fretty, this is normal. As you say, when they learn a new skill they will practice to death! DS has been doing all sorts of things at bedtime - latest skill being clapping his hands and that is what he does accordingly when I put him to sleep or when he wakes up. Actually yesterday he started waving his hand when we were in the car - in the a very Queeny kind of way - so I expect this to take over now :) so when this happens, I just lie him back down again and to distract him I give him water which works on many occasions, and then, the patting :) He has recently been given a giant fluffy dog which is now his sleeping buddy and we have found this helps him fall asleep (he never wanted the dummy) - he cuddles up to it and ends up using it as his 'pillow'. Then once he is asleep, I put it away in a corner so that he can sleep flat. Re holding him to sleep because he is in pain, is perfectly OK. Don't we all like a bit of TLC when we don't feel well? I know there are many here who are strong advocates of letting them fall asleep by themselves and I agree that in the long term it is the best thing for everyone but you are allowed to be 'naughty' and make exceptions occasionally. Yes you might pay the price afterwards but you had a reason for doing it and it s well worth it - don't feel bad about it. Have you tried the amber beads to relieve the teething pain? I could not absolutely guarantee that they work but i tried after having had 2 weeks of sleepless nights over Xmas when DS' first four teeth popped out, and now his 5th has come out and although he has woken up a couple of nights and cried a little bit, it was relatively easy to get him back to sleep so I would like to think the beads had some effect - anything to get some sleep ;) <em>edited by twin_butterfly on 26/02/2012</em>

Thanks for the idea Dan Lou but I am concerned about the origins of ready-packed mince - normally it is the leftover bits of the nicer cuts being sold as steaks, etc so I prefer to buy the fillet and leanest parts of the meat and cut up/mince myself at home. Kelly_C, thanks! Did you give the strips to her as soon as she had teeth (all DS has is the first 4 incisors) or once her canines popped out? I have been reading that the smaller the meat pieces, the better as this means that there is more surface and hence more iron released/absorbed. Knowing DS he will probably just play with the strip, occasionally chew on it and then just drop it once he gets tired of it, just like he does with his toys, books and anything else he can get hold of from CDs to mum's diary or handbag handle ... but well worth a try :)

Not bought Uggs or cleaning products here but did a bit of research as the booties we bought for DS while on holiday in Oz were too small for his age (despite the tag indicating they were for babies ages 6 to 12 months) and read the most awful reviews on online purchases from Uggs (basically they are lousy at responding). I later lived this in the flesh when we wrote to them and they took three reminders over the course of four weeks before we were told that we were welcome to go to their warehouse in Melbourne (?!) and exchange them. I did write at the beginning of my mail that we had bought the booties during a visit to Oz and but live in Dubai, so that should have given them the hint!?

Yes, the more upmarket hotels in the desert should do it. Try Al Maha, not sure if Bab Al Shams will do it, and if you prepared to venture all the way into Liwa (about a 2.5 hr drive, but the sight of the dunes there is well worth the drive) then Qasr Al Sarab will definitely do it. <em>edited by twin_butterfly on 09/02/2012</em>

You may (or not) have seen it already but I just saw this similar thread - sorry, it is Yoga again though ... http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=167165 Edited to say that I have now checked the schedule in Spa Dunya's website and they do have prenatal Pilates but it is in the morning :( http://www.spadunyaclub.com/details.php?id=17&pid=4#movement. Sorry about the rushed reply earlier, DS was starting to get restless as his afternoon nap time was coming up. Best of luck finding what you need. <em>edited by twin_butterfly on 07/02/2012</em>

Have you tried both centres? They have one at DMC and one at Emirates Hills. Also just remembered that Spa Dunya at Shams 1 do pregnancy Yoga. I have checked the classes description on their website and they only talk about Pilates but if you are very desperate ... Just bear in mind that the entrance is at the back of the building, not easy to find - you need to walk around the corner from the little supermarket. <em>edited by twin_butterfly on 07/02/2012</em>

I also had emergency CS at Welcare in April - epidural was straight forward and easy. From what I read in different threads, it seems to vary so rather hard to tell. It might be a good idea to ask for a meeting with the anaesthesiologist and ask him what he will be doing exactly so you know what to expect. With me they it was as you describe it: small needle to numb area and then second one which is the big mamma needle for the actual epidural. They ask you to deep breathe for a few seconds and then take a big breath and hold it so that you are still enough for the needle to go in. All is can say other than that is: RELAX, it does help. Best of luck xxx

Oh thanks kiwispiers! You always so efficient and reliable ;) will have a look through it all but definitely would not be too reliant on 1998 guidelines for developing countries. To be frank this was my main challenge in their website, they seem to have many studies but most of them based on countries which may have large deficiencies in many aspects. I will have another look at the USDA stuff again but not all that find of them, especially since they have been in the headlines for the ammonia in minced meat scandal ...

I am Catholic but DH is not. We did our first prep class at St Mary's because they said it was not going to be a problem. But when we contacted St Francis, which is closer to where we live, to discuss wedding dates the priest said we would have to go in for an interview and indicated that DH might have to get christened. Was he just having a bad day??? To be perfectly frank I did not feel 'welcome with open arms' in my own church.

I checked the consumer rights website a few days ago for a similar case. It does say they have to honour the price that has been advertised. However without any pictures or proof of the stickers/labels showing the lower price I am afraid you may not have much of a case. If their policy allows you can try for a refund.

Well I am part of the gang that say 40 is the new 30 :) DH and I also met past my 40th birthday. One fine day I went to see my Gyneco to tell him we wanted to have a baby, what were the chances etc. I was then 42 and he did say that statistically the chances are minimal but told me to go away, try for 6 months and if nothing happened come back for further discussion. We tried that same week and SURPRISE! Baby twin butterfly was in the oven! Now he is a gorgeous (and I must say a bit naughty at times) 9-month old boy. Just relax and have positive thoughts. Try Yoga which is great for many other things as well. It may well happen naturally. I know a couple back home who had lost hope and ended up adopting. A few months later, once the stress was gone, they conceived naturally :) Lots and lots and lots of baby dust coming your way xxx

Depends on your and your husband's-to-be religion. The Catholic church would only do it when both parties are Catholic. We did ours at the Anglican Church also in Jebel Ali, Chistchurch. The priest there is super cool and makes the session extra fun with YouTube videos etc. They are happy to marry/do prep classes for couples of mixed faiths, provided that none of the two are Muslim. Congrats on your upcoming wedding!
