I was diagnosed last week with a missed abortion at 10 weeks, the baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks. Ive been waiting a few days (no bleeding or cramping yet) and intend to wait at the least the full week suggested by the obgyn, but does anyone know a hospital here in Dubai that will administer the oral medication to induce the abortion as opposed to the suppository??? Ive read the oral is more effective. But its like pulling teeth trying to get any answers from the hospitals here. Thanks in advance! the oral medication is cytotec the same one that is administered internally. For me none worked and I had to go for a D&C. Check with Latifa hospital, not all private hospitals have cytotec as it is a restricted medication. Sorry for your loss xx

Define reasonable? For me when we chose the right school it was based 1st on the attitude of those who work there (who listen to our concerns) , a healthy culturally mixed environment, the curriculum and the number of students per class. There is a good school 10 mins away by car from our place but we chose a school in another city as we didn't like the attitude of the HOD when we applied for assessment. Call it gut feeling, it didn't feel the right school for us. I prefer smaller schools where we get noticed not large schools where we get lost in the crowd.

That is a difficult age for most girls to find suitable outfits regardless if they are a bit rounded or skinny. Where is her problem areas? if it's around her tummy she can go for skinny jeans with loose tops, those don't need boobs to fit well. The trick is to find the style that works for her body shape, Google teen with her body shape outfits & look for inspirations, Good luck

I've just been on their site to look at the member/monthly offers. What have they done to it?!!! It used to be easy to navigate but now it's a right pain in the a**e  You can find them easily on the app, no more printed offers from the website.

Westerners are the majority on this forum but not the majority of the population in the UAE (no offense) It would appeal to Arab expats & some locals, I see them asking for matching pjs , tracksuits & party dresses for them & their children on fb pages & I know some order from Turkey. I don't like twins or siblings wearing matching outfits let alone a mum and her children but it doesn't mean everyone else wouldn't like it. If it's affordable & good quality I think it will work. Good luck

Are we missing the point here? The teacher was rude to her as she thought she was the maid, she is NOT annoyed for being mistaken for a maid, she was annoyed of the teacher's attitude towards nannies/ maids, it is discrimination & racism. That is the point of the whole thread !!

Dear Tessa If I were you I'd just avoid commenting on threads until you are an expat & living here. I don't think you will really understand how things work here until you move ;) It seems that you have time to spare, there are many UK forums who'd appreciate your input & expertise.

Actually, little ones do not 'forget' pain and little ones do not have a reduced neurological system that makes them feel pain less. That view was dismissed in the early 70'2. I still remember when it was acceptable not to give neonates post operative analgesia but things have moved on the research 9whichis quite extensive) demonstrates that early experience of pain might not be remembered at a cognitive level but has a huge impact on how pain is perceived later in life. Pain is not a purely physical thing and the effects are exacerbated if the pain is imposed by someone trusted such as a parent. That said Emla should sort out earring pain - a generous smearing, covered with a non-absorbent dressing (or clingfilm) and left for at least 30 minutes should ensure that piercing is relatively pain free. Why an intelligent parent would want to risk a child suffering the pain of an infection (albeit minor) or an earring caught on clothing pulling and tearing the skin is still something I don't understand. The aesthetics of a tiny child with earrings is entirely for the parents but in UK they do tend to be associated with lower social economic groups or people from other cultures where it is the norm and are frowned upon by the white middle classes. Maybe the UAE having doctors doing the deed changes that perception a bit - in UK it is often poorly trained 'beauticians' and shop assistants - or sometimes a friend at school with a sewing needle. Hi Tessa Mine were done when I was 1 week old, so no I don't remember the pain, I don't hate my parents for making the choice for me, I appreciate the fact that they decided to go for it when I was a baby, those are the only pierces I have, I can't even imagine remembering the pain at an older age ;) And I don't think it is worse than vaccine pain I don't understand controlled crying, CIO, a baby not co-sleeping, mums leaving their babies with maids who are unqualified nannies or in a nursery (which is higher risk on the child wellbeing than a pierce) to go to work (unless they are starving & she needs the income to put food in her family's plates) but that does not give me the right to judge others choices or over analyzing them. Each to their own This is the UAE a multicultural country, it is not the UK

Thank you both! My company has offices in UAE - in fact it's a global company... One of the biggest ones... I just wasn't sure if my company would need to sponsor me and have a "local" contract or if there would be limitations on how Time I have to be in the country for not to loose it. You shouldn't be outside the country for more than 6 months, there is no specific time to stay, once you stamp the residency you can leave and just make sure to enter back before 6 months. You can get a long term lease contract in a furnished apartment hotel, they don't require a residency, and you can drive a rented car if you have an international driving license. If your company can help, you can pay the expenses of the residency which around AED 7000 every 2 yrs if they can't justify the costs. Bank account is doable through some banks, but it is a long process.

Emla cream is OTC here and has all sorts of uses. It seems to be particularly popular for bikini waxing! Some pediatricians apply it before giving injections/vaccines. It's also used by people having laser hair removal. Most people I know have a tube of Emla cream at home. I tried it when I was having my Botox, personally speaking it didn't do a thing and the DR did advise to get the real benefit out of it you need to apply it hours before not 10 minutes or so :-( Yeah, you need to apply it several times to get a result, I used to use it for laser hair removal. I also use it when I go for eyebrows threading ? And I don't understand the comments on this thread, op is looking for someone to pierce her child's ears not opinions & judgemental comments

Kidville & my gym offer toddlers classes. Check timeout dubai for ideas & places. I honestly use google when I look for classes. My boy used to go to kidville for toddlers classes, there is a branch in JBR. Many mums work here, so it might be a bit challenging to arrange play dates. You can also check the mums & tots coffee mornings organized by expatwoman I met many mums through fb groups when my boy was a toddler. He didn't go to a nursery and he was fine Good luck

If she gets an office job One would assume that her visa will not be transfered. Her current one would be cancelled and then a new one applied for as a employment visa for office workers etc is completely different to a maids one. Of the people I know they have not cancelled the visa then let her go and remain in the country to find work. They have cancelled the visa and put her on a plane where she then has to apply for a visa to return. Even if you cancel her visa aren't you still responsible for her if she remains here? I think this is law. Yup it is the law, even the immigration advise to keep the passport at your custody once you cancel her visa to make sure she leaves the country after the grace period or to give the passport to the police if she abscond & you end up reporting her. she will remain the responsibility of the sponsor if she stays after the grace period illegally if she is not reported to the authorities.

Yes to both, she is entitled for a one way ticket and a one month salary but she is not entitled for a Bonus / end of service. I wouldn't give her anything until her visa is transferred She has 1 month grace period after her visa is cancelled to find a new sponsor, if she doesn't find one it is your responsibility to make sure she leaves the country, so you will need the ticket money to fly her home. After cancelling her visa it is your right to keep her passport with you until she finds a new sponsor or fly her back home.

Sorry for your loss Keiko. I have just found out yesterday at my first scan that I have blighted ovum. I have to go back on Wednesday to do another scan and discuss my options. Unfortunately, I have no insurance cover for pregnancy and have been told that if I need hospital procedure it will cost 50,000 dh. Don't k ow whether to go home now incase this happens. I actually don't even have my passport as I was getting my visa done. I'll wait until Wednesday and discuss with doctor I suppose as I wouldn't have that money and don't want to land into debt here. I am currently 8 weeks but scan showed empty sac measuring 6 weeks 5 days. :-( That is not true, which hospital are you going to? At lateefa a D&C cost around 3000. I went for my 2nd D&C to Oriana hospital in Sharjah & I paid 8000. As for a blighted ovum it is not the same as a normal mc, my second miscarriage was a blighted ovum but the sac was growing and it's size reached almost 10 weeks at 12 weeks. Sorry for your loss xx

Walk, drink cinnamon tea or ginger, if you are not in pain, there is nothing to worry about. It is better to wait rather than going for unnecessary procedure. D&C is done under general anesthesia, you will have to do it in an OR, As I mentioned earlier I had 2 mcs & I was much further than you, but I wasn't rushed into the D&C until my body was ready and the cervix was soft and that was 2 weeks after the mc was confirmed both times. They are not suppose to go for the D&C before applying cytotec internally to soften the cervix. I was bleeding on & off. Give you body some time, at 5 weeks you might not bleed more than a regular period.

Are you bleeding? I'd go for medical management 1st before considering D&C 5 weeks is a very early miscarriage, I had 2 missed miscarriages, both times I was advised to go for tablets 1st to initiate the miscarriage before going for a D&C , in both times I was 12 weeks but baby measuring 10 weeks. But I don't misscarry naturally & had to go for D&Cs both times My cousin went to lateefa hospital, she miscarried at 5 weeks & she was bleeding , at the hospital they gave her the tablets & monitored her, she passed it naturally without the need for a D&C Eta: both times i waited 2 weeks after the mc was confirmed, it is still too early for you to go for D&C , I'm surprised they are rushing you to go for a D&C, a D&C can cause tightening in the cervix & scarring , they have to wait until the cervix is short & soft and dilating either naturally or by using tablets. Good luck & sorry for your loss xx

Do they sell the books for 100 AED or is it a voucher offer? I haven't seen any emails from Carrefour about this. If you buy the book from c4 you get 1000 points on my club card which is equivalent to AED 100 voucher, if you buy the app you will get 500 points I just checked & it's there on their fb page the offer is valid until the 20th Jan. I might go today to check

Al Garhoud area is full of schools, my advice make a list of the schools that offer the curriculum you are looking for, give them a call & visit. My cousins are Canadians, they go to Dubai International school, both girls are on the honour's list. Schools experience is different from one person to another, I stay in Sharjah and the options are limited, I visited the two well known Australian schools there but I was put off by their attitude although many people are happy with those schools. We ended up with a school in Ajman, it was a new school when my son started with no reviews, but it was the right school for us. Good luck

http://mpacsports.com We will try this next week for basketball , my son is 6, and they have a location close to our place. Soccer - we tried Goal at Dubai mall, it is nice but not professional , I found it good for young children but it's a bit pricey. When my son was a toddler he went to kidville at uptown Mirdif for soccer. He went to Popular Music institute for piano @ wafi city, and it was good but now we're looking for a place close to us as we stay in Sharjah & I'm tired from traveling all around the city for classes

Agree with using oil, my boy is 6 yrs old & I still use coconut oil on his skin. The less the products the better. I also still use mustela shampoo for him, Boots & life pharmacies have offers on Mustela from time to time. I used Johnsons shampoo on my son's hair once when he was a baby, the next day he had horrible cradle cap and it needed a medicated shampoo to get rid of it. I get red patches on my skin if I use the Johnsons baby pink lotion so I can't imagine what it can do to a baby's skin

Thank you all for your advice and recommendations, The girl is fine nothing too worrying (thank you @Silvstet) but I believe she requires a specialist because of the fact that she has a uncontrollable (loose) bladder all day (not bed wetting).. do you think she need a different kind of specialist? welcome all advice If it's a bladder issue she doesn't need a gynecologist. Look for a pediatric urologist, or a pediatrician or a urologist

Really? Seriously? My friend in Syria whose husband is a refugee somewhere in Europe was talking about the snow (in a positive way) on fb in Syria yesterday. Discussing weather forecast does NOT make us shallow. I don't think growing our eyebrows or leaving our hair to go into a mess will support any cause. This is an expats forum, it is not a charity or cause support place, as shallow as the topics might sound, they are important to others. Tessa, you can give up living in a AED 400K beach property once you reach here & live in a humble 150K apartment then donate the remaining money to charity & to support neighboring countries in war. And yes we are excited to see rain yay! We appreciate some coolness and some clouds, living in a Sunny place can get exhausting ;)

I was looking for an entertainer for my son's birthday & the cheapest I found was around AED 500. For 10 children I don't think it worth this amount of money. As for plates and supplies Carrefour has a section for party supplies & the price is reasonable. My son wanted a football themed party so I had to order everything from the party Centre, they give 10% discount on online orders. I ordered themed plates for children only and I used normal plastic plates for adults, I also ordered the party bags & gifts from there. The cost was 450 for 24 children. If you don't have a theme for the party you can find what you need from Carrefour or you try Daiso

He is proportionate height/weight so not likely to be related to dietary intake - very few growth problems are allergy/intolerance related in children (or in adults in reality). He is just about 25 centipede so small but not abnormally so - how tall are rest of family? How is health otherwise? Has he reached puberty? There are some childhood disorders that limit growth but they are rare and usually have other symptoms that drive parents to a doctor long before the age of 12. If you are concerned see a good general paediatrician not a non pads person - put him on gluten free without testing for coeliac disease type medic. Most likely he will spurt in adolescence but there are a few quick bloods that can pick up any long term condition. Food intolerance can cause failure to thrive in children, OP is asking for a doctor not advice from none medical people on a forum Leaky gut syndrome for example can cause growth issues, it can also cause physical & behavior issues. Poor absorption of nutrients is a serious illness and most of the time it goes undiagnosed until the child is much older as most of the time the symptoms are silent or are mistaken with common infections. You don't know anything about the child, assuming that he's within the healthy percentile bracket is not an indication that he does not have issues. You don't know his birth weight or height, you don't know if he went through a major drop in percentile recently or if growth slowed down starting at a certain age.
