Tessa yesterday was steaming hot at 30 degrees, today temperature dropped to 18. Most schools started today after the holidays & believe it or not traffic gets crazy in the rain with many accidents that were reported in earlier years due to rain & major roads might get blocked. Yesterday children were in shorts, today they are wearing jumpers & rain coats, so yes we have to plan in advance. Last year my son's school was closed due to rain as teachers could not commute from RAK to Ajman. As "shallow" as it might sound, rain is a big thing here. Please educate yourself before jumping into threads with your sarcastic comments.

The best way is to ask the sender for the airway bill number, I never had an issue to track shipments if there is an airway bill number, I just call Emirates post & give them the number to track them, I had deliveries from the UK, Europe & US with no issues. Just make sure to include the p.o.box number with your phone number without an address. I order books online & they get delivered to our company's box at Emirates post.

Happened to me once, just make sure your orders don't go above AED 1000. I never paid admin charges, the only time I had to pay AED 120 when my order was around $300. Since then I just make sure not to order above AED 1000

It is disgusting to our sensibilities, you are right. I do feel for the guys though. They are in a unique position of having a job that does not have an office, living in a country that does not have an abundance of public toilets, and living in a culture where they are often treated unequally and would not receive a warm welcome in many institutions were they to run in for the use of a loo. It's a tricky one. All petrol stations have loos, malls are all around the country & they all have too many toilets to count. Even Mosques have external toilets and they don't check the religion of the person who needs to use the toilet.

Prices in Sharjah are cheaper than Dubai, where do stay? There is Kontar in Al khan street, they have a branch in Sahara Centre (Komask) , their Sahara branch is more expensive than the other one. There is also tips & toes in Al Fardan Centre for waxing & mani/ pedi , they also offer massages, facials, etc. but I wouldn't recommend their hair saloon as it is pricey compared to other hairdressers in Sharjah AED 60 is the norm for a hair cut in Sharjah, blow dry is 50-70 depending on the hair length. I pay 50 for a hair cut at the saloon close to my place, it's managed by a Syrian hairdresser. I'd recommend Kontar for a short hair cut , ask for Sarya she's Lebanese, she's the manager there, they are also a training center.

Our landlord property company called us few days claiming that our cheque that was due in October was not encashed by our bank. We called our bank who confirmed that the cheque was never deposited to our account for encashment. Now the company is asking us for a replacement cheque. They sent us a letter signed by the finance manager stating that the cheque was misplaced by their bank. The letter is on the company's letterhead but it wasn't stamped. The cheque was issued under the name of the landlord not his company (he owns the company), but for me the letter without a stamp & signed by the head of finance is not enough. Should we go forward & issue a new cheque based on the letter we received ? Or should we ask for another letter signed & stamped by the landlord? The landlord will not run away with the money, he's a reputable local landlord who owns several properties and residential rental building all around the UAE, but for me there is something fishy. At 1st they asked for a new cheque over the phone but we requested the letter. Hi there, If cheque stolen or lost should be reported to the police. Take the police report to cancel cheque. And..No... you should not write out a cheque until it's cancelled or returned. We just went through a similar situation. It's seems there some sort of fad going around. Hth. Good luck. This is very helpful thanks!!

I wouldn't go, you spend loads of time outside the water & the weather is cold, it's windy most of the time those days. It's moving around wet from one game to another not only the water temperature. Today morning the temp was 13 degrees at noon yesterday it was 23. For me the right temperature is 28-30 degrees for water games outdoor.

Is there a city Centre in AD? City Centre gift cards can be used in any city Centre around the UAE, it's like a credit card. For me this is best gift card I found. You pay 7 DHS for the card + the required credit amount.

What a horrible story, poor family, I hope the little girl is found safe and sound. I guess it depends on what you mean by leaving children alone. If you are going to leave children at home whilst you go out to the mosque then that is unacceptable. However, if you are praying in the next room for 5 minutes then how is that different to going to the bathroom, being in the kitchen cooking, being distracted, etc? I totally agree that you shouldn't abandon all parental responsibilities but you should provide a safe environment at home to be able to step away from your children for a few minutes or at least have them in the same room with you. It's different because the child was left alone in a public place. And the other cases I've read are about leaving the child home alone while the parents went to the mosque. There was another case of a child that fell off the window when his mum left him few mins to drop his sister to the bus, again your argument is irrelevant. It is not about what is more important your religion or children. You can pray at home if you have no one to babysit, if someone decides to leave their kids unsupervised to go to the mosque then it is negligence as praying in the mosque is not a must, it's the same when you decide to go to the grocery store to buy tomatoes and leave your kids unsupervised at home alone. You have the option to cook something without tomatoes but you chose tomatoes over your kids. It's a matter of choice and common sense. Islam is flexible to an extend to allowing you to pray sitting in your place if you don't have any other option or just spread your mat anywhere to pray. And if it is impossible to pray on time you can just pray with the next call of prayer or anytime in between

What does it have to do with praying? He could have gone to the loo and left her , it is negligence and has nothing to do with a religious practice or prayer. I don't see the point of your post, you can take children with you to the mosque, if some parents choose to leave their children unsupervised for any reason it has nothing to do with what they went to do, it is lack of common sense and is negligence

Where is your husband's work? just look for places close to your husband's work (traffic is killing), where there are convenient / service stores and not so far away from a main shopping mall. I don't understand why you are making it difficult? Going from Jumairah to the palm and now Dubailand doesn't make any sense to me in finding the right place to live. At your age and "experience" you should know better I guess.

Sorry, but I find the whole concept of "pocket money " within a marriage appalling. You should have access to all funds and be able to spend as you please. If at some point your husband finds you have the wrong priorities or overspend, you can talk about it and work it out. This!

Most of the time it's 4+ yrs. My son is picky with food, he is 6, we went to Arboretum restaurant in Madinat , when I did the reservation I told them that my son will not eat from the buffet as it was seafood and I need to order separately for him. they were understanding they even prepared a special meal for him without charging us. I also went to kaleidoscope in Atlantis, my son was sitting there playing with his iPad, he had lunch earlier & again they didn't charge him. But I always inform them in advance & my son doesn't touch a thing from the buffet. When I know he will eat I pay the 50% charge for children. I never ever paid for a buffet when he was younger that 4!

Believe me, children miss absolutely nothing by having their week shortened. I used to be a teacher and on Thursdays we would just do things like decorate the classroom, watch a movie (an educational one, of course!), and do some gardening. Yes, first three hours would still be language arts and math, but nothing would really happen in the afternoon, anyway. For many parents, in fact, it was sort of a free baby-sitting service. I honestly do not understand why are some parents so upset that their children get to spend a few more hours at home. My son calls it play day lool , they do spelling in Arabic & English on Thursdays but other than that they don't do much really, they have in-class fun activities That is absolutely shocking! How is thursday different from any other day? Do we pay less fees for thursday's 'education'? Do you do nothing in particular at work on a thursday? I'd be fuming if my DD had a playday each thursday at school. Fortunately, thursday is just like any other day of the week in our school and the cirriculum is followed to a T. They are 5-6 yrs old children and play is still education, my son is advanced academically but he needs organized play at school for more social interaction. It doesn't take him more than 15 mins to finish his homework during the week & what his school covers is similar to academically focused schools. I care about the outcome not the method or school hours, if I'm happy with what he's learning I honestly don't care if they learn for an hour at school and play the remaining day ;)

Our school finishes at 1 pm on Thursdays , other days at 2.40 pm. They cancel the lunch break which is 1 hour & they don't have an activity class (music, arts, sports, etc) on Thursdays so I honestly don't think they miss a lot with a shorter day and it gives parents time to take their children out on Thursdays ;)

Carrefour has organic salmon. They also have organic beef. Most Australian meat here is free range, you can try spinneys on Mondays they usually have offers on free range & organic meat. They have liver, I buy lamb liver from there. As for chicken Al Rawda products are not labeled organic but they are free from hormones and they chickens are fed properly (check their website) I wouldn't bother about organic white fish, buy locally caught fish, it is sea fish.
