In sharjah his is how it goes: 1st contract 3 yrs without increase, then increase every 2 years. So this year your landlord have the right to increase although he didn't have the right to increase after the 1st year, but as you already agreed & paid the increase after the 1st year you can't do anything about it. In sharjah there is nothing called 3 month notice for the increase, it's 15 days only as per municipality, & there is no fixed percentage for the increase.

Don't eat cereals, it's carbs. Agree with pp low carb high protein diet will help you lose weight, add loads of raw veggies to your diet, drink warm lemon or ginger with tiny bit of raw honey in the morning to help your body detox, drink 1-2 cups of green tea between meals, include some healthy fats like avocado & raw nuts in your diet, almonds are good for losing weight they're high in protein & low in fats. I don't count calories. Before going to the gym eat a banana you need fuel to burn fats, & eat a protein 30 mins after exercising to feed your muscles, use coconut oil in your cooking it also helps in losing weight. I eat all day, I snack on raw veggies, low GI fruits (2 pieces per day), & raw nuts (soak the nuts before eating them) If you don't eat well your body will go I to starving mode & will hold on the fats & extra weight

Why do maids kill children? & no it's not always bad treatment from the employer Unfortunately there psychos all around the world, it's not only maids- employers relationship. I was just reading a story about a girl who's beaten by her husband everyday & the fact that they live in the middle of nowhere is not helping There was a story in the news about a dad who killed his own 4-5 yrs old with the help of the maid in Lebanon. Some parents beat their own children. My 5 yrs old was almost attacked by an adult in spinneys for being "loud" What are the reasons? I don't know, but I honestly think those type of people should either be locked in jail or a mental institute

He has a passive personality and doesnt seem to notice anything even lack of hygiene. He is totally under her "charm" and beauty. As you say he is replaceable; I do feel people are a lot more complicated these days. I'm sorry but now you are being so judgemental, what do you expect him to do? Fight with him wife or "discipline" her? You dont know the basis of their relationship. Hubby's partner's wife also acts like a "queen" , I couldn't tolerate with her attitude, my husband was ready to get out of the partnership, we dont even need that business financially, but I told him clearly that girls fights should stay away from business, the business is still there & doing well, DH's partner seems passive towards his wife, but he is not at work. I dont talk to the wife, I dont even care about her, her life or how her husband handles her or her attitude. I think your attitude towards the wife is now affecting your husband's judgement & that is not fair for the new employee, from the beginning when you noticed all this it would have been better to leave distance & provide them with a temp furnished apt away from you & your family. It's neither yours nor your husband's business to tell a man that his wife has "issues" , that is so humiliating & lacks respect

Get them in an apartment / hotel apartment ASAP This, I wouldn't waste my energy in trying to "discipline" her child or keeping up with her attitude. I also wouldn't want my relationship with the wife to affect the business relationship

Plenty of good deals out there for juicing machines. I have a Moulinex and it works great. If you want to do juicing you want it super fresh and doing it yourself is the best way. I also have a Moulinex juicer & it serves the purpose, the only difference between a normal juicer & a slow one is storage time, with a normal one you can store the juice in the fridge for 24 hrs max but with a slow one you can keep the juice for 2-3 days in the fridge edited by wickedangel_78 on 28/10/2014

No, she can't leave her country even if it's an office visa, we tried it & we issued the visa but they stopped her at the airport & she wasn't able to leave the airport & that was 3 yrs back. Even with our secretary who cancelled her visa then asked to come back, she had to leave the Philippines to Singapore to be able to enter here with her employment visa. edited by wickedangel_78 on 26/10/2014

Molly - that was similar to my son's 2nd birthday party. All our furniture was new, we got him a bouncy castle for his birthday & it was up for the children to bounce on, I had 15 toddlers between the age 1-4 & 20 adults. I also did NOT know that there should a present with each wrap opps, each an everytime a toddler unwrapped it, we have a mini meltdown, musical chairs was a disaster, so we went for a chair for each child & all were winners. 6 toddlers went up the bouncy castle (a small one from ELC) & they managed to bust it, we had to play rescue to avoid crying & meltdowns. A child managed to knock down his mum's coffee on my new beige silk rug, his mum wasn't bothered & she ended up laughing. An adult dropped cake on the reception sofa leaving it with a huge stain, with all this I forgot to take photos. I don't know why I thought buying personalised gifts instead of goodie bags for the children was a great idea, it was not!! Many ended up crying wanting the gift they did not get. I was glad when the party was over, my son was so overwhelmed by all this he decided to go to the bedroom & refused to blow his candles. His 3rd & 4th birthdays were at a restaurants with family only. His 5th birthday is next month, he already have a count down calendar on his wall, I'm glad this year he asked for a picnic at the park for his birthday looool. edited by wickedangel_78 on 26/10/2014 edited by wickedangel_78 on 26/10/2014

I hire through agencies with no experience , I prefer young & not married, when I look into cvs I try to find someone who is a bit on the smaller side as I have a small frame & I don't like to have a maid who's double my size. I stick to the min salary for 6 months then I give a reasonable raise. When you hire through an agency you have to be careful of "take me back to agency I don't like it here", they can make up stories to go back to the agency & some agencies teach them to say so to move them to another house & get the fee twice while leaving you to wait for replacement, it happened to us twice. The 1st time we returned her to agency, the second time I told the maid that I don't care about the money we paid to the agency & if she doesn't like it, I'm happy to send her back home & I explained to her that she will get a ban. She then confessed that the agency taught her to do so as they promised to move her to another employer immediately with some extras. I interview the maid over the phone & I set up the rules, when she arrives I talk to her infront of the agent about the rules & I make sure she agrees on them again there. I don't hire Muslims as Ramadan is exhausting for us, I need extra help during Ramadan & I don't feel comfy to ask a fasting maid to do the extra work during that month. I don't hire locally as many have attitude & are very demanding, I don't keep a maid over 2 yrs, I prefer to get a new one. I don't work so I manage the house, the maid is only responsible of house work, no babysitting or cooking.

My son is in FS2, until now he can't write properly, when they send us a homework I have to explain to him how to write a letter both in Arabic & English, he is a smart advanced child who's been reading since he was 2.5 yrs. I honestly think children are using way too much technology & screen time at school, he's been using educational games on the iPad since he was 1.5 yrs, iPads are not rocket science, I think at schools they should work more on developing fine motor skills rather than spending most of the time on technology. I get overwhelmed from all the apps & websites the school advises up to use. Classdojo, communicator, oxford owl, study ladder & so on. Children spend over 7 hours from their life at school, I raised the issue of writing to school, his teacher confirmed that almost all children are struggling with writing, she doesn't even understand why children are not encouraged to write letters between the lines to teach them how to write letters & words properly. They rely intensively on the parents at home & with the long school hours children don't have enough time to relax or go to after school activities . I did several online courses, but I got bored at the end from the lack of interaction with real people. At home my son doesn't use the iPad & he rarely watches tv, I try to encourage him to read using real books & to use a pencil or a board to practice writing. Conventional teaching methods teach patience unlike fast pace technology , unfortunately many children lack the patience to finish a task those days edited by wickedangel_78 on 21/10/2014

I'd ask her to stay away from the mangoes as you buy them for your child, or when you buy fruits give her what you see is reasonable for a person to eat over 5-7 days, keep stock of basic food at home & let her cook for herself. I dont give our maid food allowance, I buy her spread cheese & noodles as extras, we don't eat those, we always stock legumes, rice, pasta, meat & frozen veggies in addition to the fresh veggies I buy every 2-3 days. If I cook something she likes she will eat from it otherwise she will have to cook her own food. If she asks for something specific I buy it for her. I dont make a fuss out of it, she's a grown up & she can cook her own food. We buy expensive fruits, we share it with her but I jokingly told her that those fruits are expensive & we all eat those as treats not as main meals throughout the day. edited by wickedangel_78 on 19/10/2014

Ok I'll try to clarify the points... I did go to the courts while he was out of the country, and definitely my rights are not the same. From what they told me though, a Muslim woman can't even initiate divorce. Then the issue of the divorce and custody being valid anywhere else. [b'>No, he is Canadian. Not the kids. They need my permission and presence to apply for citizenship, which I will not consent to, he knows that. The only way he could do it is to get sole legal custody of the kids and he can't do that simply, Ive definitely not done anything to warrant the separation of my rights from my kids. He got them gcc citizenship and passports, definitely without my knowledge. I really do not think he is allowed both, but he was born in Canada and left his fathers papers for some time before I ever met him.... This story I can't really explain as it isn't mine.[/b'> I'd have an excellent chance for divorce and custody in my own country, but he has physically detained all of our passports. Here, it's not the same, they do go for the Muslim fathers rights from what I was advised. They weren't unfriendly at all but I think trying to give me a realistic viewpoint. They also said that the judge does not have to grant me a divorce, and they also said tread carefully because me teaching the kids any Christianity is grounds for him getting them permanently. I have not done that, I was talking about winter season things. edited by Cherpie on 15/10/2014 Further, I would be really screwed up if I got a divorce and he cancelled my visa and not my kids. He can easily have me removed from this country without my children, definitely. edited by Cherpie on 15/10/2014 He was born in Canada & he has the passport since birth, she mentioned that his GCC country doesnt allow dual citizenship, so it means he is canadian not from GCC , he cant get his children GCC passports if he doesnt hold one, so her story doesnt add up edited by wickedangel_78 on 15/10/2014

They didn't say that, exactly, they said it would be harder if I were Muslim do maybe I misunderstood. The kids do have passports same as me, where they were born. I never said they don't have passports so what you buy or don't buy isn't really my fault. Their fathers nationality at the time of their birth was not the same that it is now. I was told that his fathers country of birth does not recognize dual citizenship so I'm still not sure what he's doing on that end. edited by Cherpie on 15/10/2014 How did he get them the GCC passports? He is canadian & was born in Canada so no dual citizenship for him. Did he give his canadian passport to get his GCC passport back? How did he get them the GCC passports when they are born with different nationalith, their dad wasnt from GCC when they were born. Seriously?? You were also talking about canadian passports?? Do you think we are naive?. edited by wickedangel_78 on 15/10/2014

I'm out of this thread, go to your embassy & seek your civil rights. Ask them to hire a lawyer & take it from there, as a foreigner (you and your children), you should go by your country's civil rights for women & children, both you & your husband are NOT locals, he is Canadian & you are from what I understand a Westerner? Going to the court here will get you nowhere. I think you should have a civil marriage certificate, in the canada for example if 2 canadian Muslims want to devorce they have to go through the civil court, he can devorce her as per Islam without her agreeing on the devorce, but as the children are Canadian custody & mo ey related issues follow the civil rights in canada. This is why I am not buyjng your story

Yep, that's what he told me when I had the confrontation about the other passports. Im not sure if those even had my name on them as the mother or not. That's when I knew I don't stand a chance. Only in my mind. If I ever find a passport in my name I will burn it. edited by Cherpie on 15/10/2014 Are those passports canadian? I missed that part. How did he get those passports? You cant purchase those unless they are fake, he needs to go there with the children, stay there for x amount of yrs, get a residency then apply for citizenship, then he will be scheduled an interview & based on that he can only get a Canadian passport. Or is it another nationality? I'm now curious to know the whole story OP is canadian - children get automatically as decendants It seems that the husband is canadian not OP, & he was born in Canada, yet the children needs her "approval" to get the passports although they are born with a Canadian dad

They take their dad's nationality by default, he does not need your approval. how can they stay in a foregin country (HERE!) Without passports? The court will not tell you a muslim woman doesnt have the right to devorce herself, it is called khol'a & very common. Children dont go by default to the father only because he is a Muslim, you have civil rights given by the embassies of both parties. You are not locals! I think Cherpie's situation is different though because she is not Muslim. I don't think a non-Muslim mother can retain custody of her children. Also, from what I understood, Cherpie, your DH is not local but from another GCC country. Didn't you say that he got a Canadian passport for himself and your children? What was the purpose of that? This is what I'm talking about , we dont have a clear picture, are those passports new? I think in some gulf countries you cant hold two passports? If the children dont have GCC passports things are different, she should look into her rights at the Canadian embassy? Providing vague info is not helping

Mrs B - know of plenlty of local famalies where the children are with their mother, as per Islam. It is nothing to do with the family book - the wife is also in the family book - by your logic you are saying that teh wife "belongs" to the husband too? This. Children remain under the custody of their mums until the age of 7 or 8, they are very strict here, the husband have to provide a house & income to the mother, & women have the right to devorce themselves in court, my friend did it, she went to the court & devorced herself & her children are living with her. Cherpie before playing the victim here, can I ask how long you've been married? How many children do you have? When did all this mess started? Before looking for empathy from a forum with 80% none muslim members & blaming all this on a religion, some background on your life would be nice to clear those issues you're complaining about. Why did your husband become spiteful all of a sudden? As you have a box of christmas stuff I guess you celebrated christmas before with your children & husband? Did you go to a lawyer to check your legal rights in this marriage before building assumptions? I think as a foreigner you should have an embassy here, did you contact them? You should look into your whole marriage & try to solve your issues instead of whining over Christmas, Christmas comes & goes every year, but living in a miserable relationship with no common ground is a lifetime thing. What about your children? How's their relationship with their dad? Many facts are missing here. Islam & religion has nothing to do with it, so please stop playing this card, many comments here are offensive to Muslims, mixing cultural practices with religion is not acceptable, I will not go OT by quoting posts & arguing to show the differences, this is not what the thread is about. I really hope you find a solution to your problems

I used to work for one of those companies that dont have a labour contract, when my gratuity was calculated it was based on the latest issue of the employee's/ company handbook not on the original contract I signed. I am hoping the fact that the DIFC Employment Law actually state how the gratuity should be calculated will help me in my case. We are a regulated firm after all. So non compliance to the DIFC law is a serious matter. It is just sad that I have to resort to reporting them after all these years in order to get what is rightfully mine. It was one of Dubai Holding companies, when I signed the contract Dubai holding wasnt established yet & there was no employees handbook or anything, but when I resigned the company was under Dubai holding & there was a new handbook they used to calculate my end of service.

The employment contract that I signed, clearly stated that the salary is a base salary. The gratuity calculation was also stated in that contract. As we are a DIFC company, so no labour contract. DIFC employment law clearly stated how the gratuity should be calculated. After so many years of no increment and decided to move to another company, they finally gave me an increment last year. Increment to my base salary, not an allowance. However they have decided that they will come up with their own method to calculate the gratuity. It will be based on the salary for that particular number of year. X for 4 years, Y for 1 year. The difference in final amount is significant. The auditors reported on this but in a way that is less committing but will somehow save their a**s if or when any of the staff make a complaint. Currently serving my notice. Unfortunately, other than the off record conversation, I have no actual proof at the moment. So I have to wait till I get the final payment before I can do anything. Been with my company for over 5 years. After all that I have contributed, they turned out to be just another Ali Baba. edited by blimey on 10/10/2014 edited by blimey on 10/10/2014 I used to work for one of those companies that dont have a labour contract, when my gratuity was calculated it was based on the latest issue of the employee's/ company handbook not on the original contract I signed.
