We moved here in January and my son is in FS2 at Safa Private School. Just finished his first term and we love it. Really friendly school. We live in The Greens which is about 15km away but takes less than 15mins. Hi ..Did you have pay a refundable deposit of AED 3,000 that you can claim if you leave the school?

I agree with Lolacat. Am not sure what you are calling FS2 in an Indian Curriculum school. Do you mean LKG or HKG? Either way... from what I understand... based on the age ranges.... LKG = FS2. So if she is in HKG she would be age wise eligible for Yr. 1 in a British Curriculum school. I understand what you mean by school year, but its not a bad thing. The Indian school will get done in April and you will need an assessment by the British School and a school leaving certificate. British schools start in September..... so this would give your kid a LONG summer break. I may be wrong as Indian schools in Dubai may mirror the same timetable as the British School. Not sure of the Indian school timetables in Dubai. Now, with regards to the level. My daughter in FS2 is past the knowing phonics and is reading pretty well and now has started writing sentences with support. I find the British curriculum very focused on reading but not focused on math and numbers. Indian schools are focused on writing and numbers. The good thing for your daughter is that the reading and writing competency required at the British schools (atleast the one my daughter goes to) is a wide range for a year group. So if you shift your child, there will be children who are reading and writing well and also children who aren't necessarily doing it so well. At a good school, she will get the support she needs to catch up. Good Luck. Apparently its easier to shift from Indian to British but not so easy to shift back. Late but Thanks Lolacat and kcinthecity.

Hello Everyone My daughter just turned 5 and is currently studying in FS2 at an Indian curriculum school. I wish to move her to a British curriculum school. Here's the catch some of the schools say that on completion of an assessment they would place her in Grade 1 (according to her age). For the Indian curriculum she is of the right age The problem is that the Indian academic year starts in April and ends in March of the following year ,so she would have completed just term1 by June. Some schools say that she would be placed in FS2 itself but they don't have places for that year so have asked me to apply next year for Y1. Has anyone been in a similar situation? I am not sure if placing her in Year 1 is a good idea as she would not have completed 2 terms of FS2 .At the moment she is familiar with phonics and has not quire started writing or reading sentences. Please help! edited by xenre on 09/05/2015

She was very concerned as she does not live here and did not want to get opinions off people as she does not know anyone who got married in Dubai and wanted to ensure like eveyone that her wedding will be the best day of her life..thank you for all this as now it has made her feel at ease that these hotels are good. Hey Bonbon,if your friend needs any further help for the wedding please ask her to contact Leroy at Crimson Events :[email protected]

One of my besties is thinking of using Dubai as a venue to give training. It would be for 15-20 ppl. The budget is around 120-130 aed per person per day. (She works for an NGO so less is better). This must include use of conference room, 2x tea/coffee break, water and lunch. Is this possible here in Dubai? Not looking for 5 star sevice, but good value for money and pleasant surroundings. No Hotel accomodation required as applicants will take care of that themselves. TIA!!! Contact Hyatt Regency (not Grand Hyatt).Good service, good pricing and good conference venue.

Can you let me know how much you paid per head for the reception approx and what it Included pls Hi Kateh, agree with the ladies. While it's entirely your choice to hire a wedding planner,if you have the time it would good to do it yourself. Some steps: 1)Type of ceremony(Church,blessing)-Pre ceremony(Banns etc)Post ceremony - attestation of Marriage certificate etc 2)Reception Venue-Depending of number of guests could start from AED 180 onwards just for food. You can add on by adding a beverage package.Park Hyatt,The Address etc are some good venues.Another very nice venue is the Golf Park at Hyatt Regency. This venue is a well kept secret;)Little cheaper than Park Hyatt etc . 3)Party entertainment -Depends on you ,DJ,Band,Violinist,Harpist. My friend hired a violinist for her ceremony and a band and DJ for reception from a company. She also had a caricaturist who made a pic of the guests as a wedding favour! She got them at a great rate.I can give you the numbers if interested. 4)Most hotels give you complimentar cake and basic decor like table center pieces.Again I hired a decorator for my wedding as I had a specific theme. Hope this info is helpful.

Anyone know if there are still trees there?? I've been let down by Ace hardware as they lost my order and am now in a panic as inlays arrive tomorrow and really wanted a tree before they came!! If they are still available I'll go tonight! Do check out Hyper Panda in Festival city as well. They have about 6ft ones for about AED 300-400.
