Hello! Would anyone know how to get a duplicate birth certificate? My dd was born in 2010, Medcare Hospital. I'm a total blonde and seem to have misplaced it on a flight (disappeared after I showed it to customs... :\: ) Thanks in advance!

What is your job searching method? Often the resume isn't all that it could be.. a powerful marketing tool... I've seen loads of resumes that could have been polished to make the candidate look amazing, but instead it was just a formal list ...

Well, it is definitely: God: He decided her time was up, He decides the lifespans Baroness: She disobeyed and sinned, and brought it upon herself Lover: for not helping her in need Friend: for not helping her in need and being self righteous Boatman: for not taking pity on a distressed soul Madman: though a mad man can't be held responsible for his sins Baron: he gave her fair warning.. though he could have tried to prevent it or return sooner

Thanks for giving me the English version! :) Ok, that sounds like good news.. lots of people I hear are talking about economic crises and O No, Now What? So would you invest in real estate in the UAE? Is it advisable, I wonder! edited by xenyen on 17/11/2011

Thanks for the figures.. that's a very intimidating website you just posted! So what does it mean, actually? That we SHOULD invest in real estate and not try to get rid of such assets? That there ARE lots of good jobs and opportunities here? Would love it if someone translated! Thanks.. On the contrary, the UAE is a great place to be right now. Annualised GDP to November 2011 is 1.4% (Comparatively, UK is 0.5%; Australia is 1.1%) http://www.tradingeconomics.com/united-arab-emirates/indicators

Thanks for your advice, Sizzles and BellaUK. We're seeking refinancing.. there are some promising options. With all this in view, I suppose no one will be investing in real estate in Dubai any more, for some time to come! I wonder what that would mean.. all property values going down? Lots of expats moving away.. Which means less jobs / slower economy or more jobs / less expats to do them? Maybe the UAE isn't a great place to be..

Thanks, GloynByw and edna.welthorpe for replying. Basically the payments are huge, and rent isn't covering it. My husband's business has taken a steep nosedive (construction materials). Anyway, I was hoping someone who knows these things might know of an alternative method of financing? There are so many properties approaching foreclosure, according to the newspapers, that banks are avoiding all the expenses involved in taking on these properties. How does one reach a compromise? Appreciate it..

Hello! I hope there is someone with experience who might have some tips.. My husband bought a flat in Marina, for AED 3 million. He's having trouble making the payments, and we're nearing foreclosure. Any ideas how to keep the flat? Appreciate your advice!!

Thanks for the detailed response, HelloAgainKitty! It's a DBA research proposal of 15,000 words, and the topic was just handed out. It seemed quite complex to me, so I thought I'd sound out at good old reliable expatwoman. :-) It's actually not mine, but a friend's; he mentioned it and I thought I'd help out with some ideas. I'm glad I"m not the one who has to write it. I imagine that the women working here have learnt a whole lot of diplomacy to get things done without ruffling feathers.. invaluable skills I'd definitely want to learn, as I'm the straight to the point type of person. Thanks for the input, Babylons.. HR is a thankless job, from what I've seen.. managing people in any situation is always tough. I have a sister in law who's amazing at it.. she is so incredibly sweet and kind and thoughtful and helpful.. you wonder what a wonderful person she is. Then after a while you realize the sting that's been there all along, the incredibly gross back biting and back stabbing.. but for that you have to have no scruples lying, spying, interfering, etc. Whoa, how did she sneak into this conversation? Deleted from mind. Thanks for all the input, ladies! Will pass it on to friend. Do you mind me asking what level of studies you're at? It's just that this kind of anecdotal stuff may be fine for college, but if it's for a university, then you should already have ideas of some of the answers, especially regarding management styles if that is your area of study. If this research paper is something like a thesis, then boy have you got your work cut out and you will have to carefully define your subject because as it stands, it's vast. I think it has more to do with demographics than anything else - ethnicity, social background, education levels (to a certain extent), ambition (and the role of ambition within the person's culture), empowerment, freedom of thought (are we getting into whether religion actually affects social interaction in the workplace?! Woah... biggie right there!) Are you looking at it "in general" or from a management perspective... an employee's perspective? A socio-economic perspective? Do you have to write 1000 or 15000 words on it?!

That's really interesting: The quality of work here is much better, in my observation.... Seriously?! o_O I'd say the complete opposite, in general, the quality of work is poorer, less efficient and generally shoddy, which stems from a lack of empowerment. A lot of people seem to think that it's about clocking up hours, not how you spend them - they turn up, do as they're told and nothing more. They don't feel they have ownership of the work they're doing - and don't take responsibility for their own mistakes or their own standard of work. that sound just like what I was talking about, HelloAgainKitty. It must be the way it is all over the world, in most work places then? Most people whiling away the time, some working? I wonder what makes people so detached from their work? Is it cultural, perhaps ? Or to do with company structure, or management style? .. that there was an issue before it became an issue. In a workplace, people should never forget that they're confronting work issues, not personal ones. edited by Hello.Again.Kitty on 11/09/2011 Now that's really true... the manager has a big role to play to ensure work proceeds smoothly.. I wonder what makes a good manager who can 'deal with the little snowball before it becomes a big one' ?

Hello! Thanks, Sugar Beach; I agree with you about avoiding confrontation. I remember when doing a project management course in Sweden, our instructor, who had his own IT company, told us never to avoid confrontation. It just sweeps things under the carpet, then it always explodes with very unpleasant consequences further down the road. Proactively deal with issues, was his motto. Thanks, wuffles. As a matter of fact, I DO use wiki a lot. Not as the final authority, of course, but as a guide and a pointer and just ONE source of information at the primary stage of research. Of course, with proper research, you consult many different sources, gather loads of information, then prune and double check to ensure you're writing a quality piece. Anyway, hope lots more of the working ladies in Dubai hop on! How do you all love (or not) your jobs, and why? I remember working in an environment where the superiors were unmotivated slackers.. I soon left as I just didn't want to see shoddy work any more. The quality of work here is much better, in my observation.... what is your two cents?
