HI tal00, When are you moving to Qatar? I am an expat who is returning home at the end of the month and I'm currently selling lots of my furniture ( most of which I have only just bought!). Ive got two sets of bedroom furniture, a two seat sofa and two large fridges amongst other things. All of which need to go.

Just had to discover all of this for myself recently after adopting three abandoned kittens and I can tell you that the Canadian Veterinary is the place to go. The people there are extremely friendly, helpful and very good at their jobs. I came into the clinic completely clueless as to what I needed and came out with a good insight and three very healthy cats - I was very impressed. I recommend you get an appointment with Dr Emilio, he's very good although the other staff members seem just as knowledgeable. If you take a look at their site ( http://canvethospital.com/ ) they have a map available as well information on the services they have to offer. I believe they are the only vets here that work 7 days a week so you should have no problem booking your pet(s) in when ever you are free. Before I found the Canadian Veterinary I stumbled across a place called Park View and I have to say I wasn't really impressed with the place. It was a huge struggle trying to get somebody to give me some information and the lady at the desk just kept telling me to look everything up on Facebook. I also asked them if I could board my kittens with them while I am away and somebody told me they could when they actually told me at a later date that they were not able to take them as they were too young! They also were supposed to be selling products for pets but all of the shelves were completely empty so I was very disappointed and left empty handed. Honestly stick with the Canadian Veterinary and I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed :) Hope I've been able to help :)

Hello, afraid I can't directly answer your question either but if you were curious about the school itself I can say that it is quite a good school as my brother goes there. Staff are pretty friendly and any problems we have had have been resolved pretty quickly. My brother is in year 10 and has been to the school since he first started high school so he has been there for a while now and he seems to like it. We actually live a fair distance away, from Madinat Khalifa but the school has a bus service to take my brother to school everyday. The bus service is pretty good, they collect him from outside our house and take him to the school and they have a bus monitor and everything from what I've heard, so its pretty safe. My brother also had a driver who could take him to extra revision sessions and he was a pretty good driver so there are ways of getting back and forth if you live further away. Traffic is a bit mental over here but anything can be worked around out here with the right mindset and with a bit of information from people. Hopefully you can find a place close by but if not be sure to ask around and I'm sure people will be able to guide you along the way. Best of Luck!

HI LushOS, I guess that would depend entirely on why you want to learn web design. If you wanted a professional qualification for your job or whether you just wanted to learn for the fun of it. When I went out in search for a computer tech course, the person that I spoke to said that I could learn it in a week and not have to do any exams or anything like that. In the end, I couldn't find a legit place to teach me (and of course didn't want anybody to doubt my qualifications, since fake qualifications seem to be a thing out here) so I ended up studying it from home and returning to my home country to take the exams. I personally recommend you learning online like I had to do, especially if you want to get properly qualified at the end of it. It may look a little daunting at first when you consider it as an option but I managed to pass my two exams this way and I'm now on course number two so it seems to work for me. There are several places you can go to depending the exact course you are after. Here are a few sites that I have used for my courses:- http://www.lynda.com/ - If you go to the 'Developer' section, you can find the 'Web Development" section. With Lynda.com I believe you can get a subscription with them for whatever time period you need and then watch as many videos of what ever you choose during that time. http://www.pluralsight.com/tags?pageSize=48&sortOrder=size - Pluralsight is another place I have used in the past. These people have various courses on all kinds topics so I would take a look and see what you can find. ( Sorry...I'm not sure exactly which programming language you would be interested in using - If I knew I would be a bit more direct) I believe you can get free trials from these places so you could always try them out and then go with the one that is more appealing to you. I'm afraid these don't provide 'labs' for you to implement what you've learnt though so you might have to find another vendor for that I'm afraid. These are professional courses though that are used for people wanting to implement what they have learnt in their line of work so they are quite good. Another thing you might want to consider is Kindle books. Amazon sell a lot of computer books for Kindle on their website and you don't actually have to own a Kindle to make use of them ( although if you did want to go out and get one, they sell them in the Virgin Megastore in Villagio). If you don't have a Kindle (and don't want one) you can just download the Kindle Application from their website for either Windows, Mac, IOS or Android so you would be able to use what ever device appeals to you. Once you have the Kindle App you can purchase computer books digitally and read them through the app. If you just wanted to study it for a bit of fun and would rather not do it online. I suppose you could always try 'New Horizons' but I haven't actually taken a course there so I'm afraid I can't tell you what that would be like. It might also be a little awkward if you are the only female in a class dominated by males lol. I would recommend just studying online but its entirely up to you, there are plenty of options available. Please let us know how you get on and what you decide to go for. As you would have probably guessed by now, I'm a bit geeky and I'd be curious to know where to go to study this for a later date haha :P

Hi The best way to deal with big companies here is to voice your problem on social media...esp. Twitter. The Ooredoo Social Media team are great at getting back to you on Twitter, Instagram and you can try Facebook too. I have tried it with Vodafone and Ooredoo and got the result I wanted. Calling by phone is not the way to go, I have found. I know that not everyone uses social media, but it's the way to go these days, I'm afraid! Good luck! Hi Chizz, Thanks for the advice, I'll have to give it a try. Ooredoo promised once again that they were going to send somebody to my house yesterday but as usual, nobody turned up and we have heard nothing. I'm willing to give anything a try if it will get them to do something! :P

Hi Rae, Of course I can. If you don't mind though... could we arrange to do that when you are next online? Sorry, I don't mean to be awkward haha. Its only because this site actually doesn't have a private messaging interface so I would have to put it up here in this post and then remove it again once you've received it, in order to avoid any "interesting" emails from people :P Sorry to hear you're having trouble getting your daughter into a school. As Khokha rightfully said, it would be beneficial to you if you brought along your daughter's previous report and/or any documentation that you can from her previous school. In the mean time, I'll keep a look out for anything regarding home-schooling here. There is a group that I've read about on the web called Doha Home Educators ( sorry, I would post a link but I'm not sure if that's against the rules here but if you type that into Google, they have a website you can look at). They may be able to help or in the very least, point you in the right direction. Wishing you all the best  <em>edited by XxNooniexX on 10/12/2014</em>

Hi Rae, No problem at all, I'll be sure to stay in touch. If you like, I could give you my email and then your daughters could get to know me a little bit before they get here. Wow, sounds exciting! I think it'll be a great opportunity for you all. Think being in accommodation first is pretty useful, you'll be able to have a look around the place and see what is best for you. Most people tend to decide where they want to go based on where they work and how far away the school is as the traffic on the roads here can be pretty nasty at the best of times. I believe that a lot of people like the Abu Hamour area (where I live) and the West Bay area, so they might be areas you would want to check out when you get here. <em>edited by XxNooniexX on 01/12/2014</em>

Hello, Nice to hear you're moving to Qatar! In regards to your question about the schools here in Qatar, you might want to look at this link from this site - http://www.expatwoman.com/qatar/monthly_schools_doha_list_6031.asp , there are several British schools listed here and web links to each of them. I believe that from this list you can also find out what curriculum they teach too, I hope it helps. My brother goes to Compass School here (he's 13 so he'll be starting his GCSEs in September) and I've actually seen a huge improvement in him since he started school here, not just in his grades but his personality too. He made friends really easily through school and now he has a whole group of them that he spends time with, he's so much more confident than he used to be so I can only say positive things about his schooling experience here. To tell you the truth I haven't really heard of any horror stories about the schools here so I think everything will be okay. Schools out here are a little hard to get into though because of the increase of the population here so I'm afraid patience and persistence is key to getting into one but once you've got one, it'll get a whole lot better. Perhaps I might be able to help you out. I'm actually 19 just like your daughter and I'm from the UK too. If your daughters are looking for a friend and/or some help to settle in, I'm more than happy to help. I have obtained A-Levels back in UK so I don't go to school here ( I teach myself courses from home and I'm currently looking for work) but I have lived here for over a year now so I'm used to how everything works out here and the places to go to get the things that you need. Hope I've been able to help you out. If you need any more help, you're more than welcome to ask me. <em>edited by XxNooniexX on 24/11/2014</em>

No problem Rptnicu :) Glad I was able to help. I know how you feel, I got about 140 games with Steam so I'd die if I couldn't use it haha. I quite enjoy RPGs too but I don't mind anything really, I like to try different things in order to improve my skills :P Haven't actually played Middle Earth yet though, you'll have to let me know what it's like (as I'm wanting to play it....desperately!). As for consoles, I have an Xbox 360, Wii, 3DS and PlayStation 3 each with a fair few games ( I live out here with my family and they all have different gaming preferences!) and I seem to be managing just fine so I'm sure you won't have any difficulties. So when are you moving out to Qatar then? :) Are you looking forward to it? I've only lived out here for a year but so far I have enjoyed my time here. It's a nice place to live, a lot different from back home though.

Hi There, As a computer gamer myself maybe I would be able to help. In regards to Steam, yes you can use Steam in Qatar, I use Steam here and I seem to manage without a problem. One thing I will say though is currently I don't believe that Steam supports payments with Qatari Riyals at the moment. So when it comes to purchasing games I pay in Pounds from my UK bank. (I'm not sure if they support Paypal though, perhaps that could be an alternative if you need it... I'll see if Steam supports it and I'll get back to you on that one. As for the internet, as Khokha2 rightfully said, the internet is more expensive out here but if you are willing to pay out it won't prove to be a problem to you. Gaming computers... well, they can be a little hard to come by unfortunately. Some places out here ( The Virgin Megastore in particular) sells them but there's not a huge variety so you may be limited on choice. There are not any decent computer hardware stores out here just yet so once you have purchased one, your chances of performing any upgrades would be slim unless you can bring the components back from your home country or somewhere else. The electronics out here are expensive in comparison to other countries I'm afraid but if your obsession is as great as mine I'm sure you'll find a way haha. I would recommend you shipping your desktop out here if you plan on having a suitable machine to go crazy with though. Personally, I haven't got a desktop computer out here just yet, a having a gaming laptop that I bought from the States. For computer peripherals, again you can find them out here. For your mouse and keyboard, I'd try Virgin Megastore or Jarir Bookstore, the price of those would vary depending on how fancy you want to go of course. I don't have any doubts about you finding a suitable monitor either, out here they seem to love good TV's and monitors so I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for ( I don't think that Virigin Megastore sells them so if you want one, I think Jarir Bookstore would be where you would want to go). I don't know if you are a console gamer as well but just in case I'll give you the heads up about that too. Consoles are sold here and you can find them in many places... the catch is some are PAL and some are NTSC, guess it works because everyone can get what they want. If you chose to buy a console out here you would need to consider where you purchase it from because that would dictate what region it is. If you are looking to buy one that is NTSC I know that the SAQR store sells those and it sells all NTSC games for all consoles. If you come out here choosing to go for a British console, then I would recommend the Virgin Megastore as they sell all PAL consoles and games. If you are looking to purchase console from any other store, they would most likely be NTSC but you would definitely need to check first. A lot of the people here don't know that much about electronics (at least not the people that sell them anyway so if you have nay doubt I'd do some research before making a purchase). Video gaming out here is more than possible. I'm quite heavy on that and it certainly hasn't slowed me down anyway haha. There are a few things to consider though. Firstly, as Khokha2 said earlier, we run on UK voltage so that means you would definitely want to check your powers supply to make sure it is set at that voltage or can automatically switch to it when you come out here. Again, if you decide to purchase a computer out here... I do insist you double check its power supply too just to be sure it is set correctly before you power it on ( as I said earlier, the vendors here aren't too familiar with electronics... I would have thought that it would be set correctly if you buy it here but I'd rather you be safe than sorry). Also, it does get very hot out here... especially in the summer when it can reach up to 50 degrees C ( sorry... I don't know what that is in Fahrenheit) so if you are bringing your machine out here... or even if you just want to buy one here, I highly recommend you buy some cooling fans to take with you for your machine. Hope I've been able to help. If you have anymore questions about things, just ask. As I said earlier computer games are a serious hobby of mine so I'm sure I'll be bale to help. I'm also an IT Technician so I try to gather as much information as I can regarding the technology era out here.

Hi Fajer, As you can see, I have now removed my email address so I shouldn't have any problems now. I have just received an email from them just like you said and I have just replied back to them now. It sounds like a really great opportunity so I'm really looking forward to hearing from them again. I can't thank you enough for your help xx

Hi Everybody, Thank you all very much for your responses, I'm very grateful for all of your suggestions. Bambi - Think you are very right in what you have said. I'm hoping work will help me with friends too. I'll also try looking at that link that you've posted. It sounds like a great idea, thank you very much for making me aware of this. Khokha - I haven't actually tried Qatar Foundation yet but now that you have mentioned it, I'll be sure to check them out and see if they have any openings. Thanks for the suggestion. Fajer - Thank you so much for your response. I think that would be a really wonderful opportunity. I'm going to add my email in a separate message just in case it gets deleted later.(It appears that there isn't a way to privately message users on this forum so I'll put my email on separately just in case.) I would be very grateful if you could put me in touch with these people, I'd be more than happy to work for them. Thank you all once again for your messages. They have all been most helpful.
