I also need to book a taxi for tomorrow, can anyone recommend any private car companies? RTA advised us to call 40 minutes before we need a taxi tomorrow but I am worried that we may not get one.

Try Churchills, they steam cleaned my curtains while they were still hanging and offered different cleaning options before they started.

Does anyone know what the opening times are this week to renew e-gate cards at the airport or at Jebel Ali or in the Dnata building on SZR? Also has anyone managed to have it renewed on their Emirates ID card at the airport office or is his only done at the other locations? TIA

It was a while ago but I think I have seen one in Ibn Battuta mall. I cannot for the life of me remember the shop name but its the one near to Gap that sells kitchen and bathroom items.

We have used Tip Top painters and were very happy with the quality of the work. We had several quotes and they were very reasonable (will depend on the size of your villa and what paints you want) if you do a search on here you should find their contact details.

I did mine a few years ago in departures at the airport. I only had my passort but it was probably before ID cards so I would suggest you take both. They took the photo and the whole process only took 20 minutes but I guess that will depend on how busy they are so allow plenty of time if you have a flight to catch. You can now have your egate added to your ID card but not sure if this service is available at the airport or not (had mine done in the Dnata building on SZR) We were going to get ours added on to our ID cards, but have heard some horror stories of them not working. Also would you ever get them to expire at the same time?? Got ours done at the airport couple of months ago and didn't even have time to stop for a coffee. They used our photos, but then gave them back when they had copied them. All we took were our passports and ID cards. A couple of times mine hasn't worked but that was due to a problem with the machines so even those who had normal egate cards had problems. I thought ID cards and egate cards were all linked to your residency visa, so they would all expire / need renewing at the same time?

When I started to read this post I was also going to suggest Jebel Ali. Its great for a day trip or weekend getaway. There are lots of sun loungers on the beach and around the pools, but sometimes it does get very busy so it might not be as peaceful as you want. Maybe Bab Al Shams would be quieter, or Banyan Tree Beach Resort at RAK? I also think you can get day passes for Al Maha which might even be adults only. It was lovely and quiet this weekend and only a few holiday makers, even the restaurants were quiet which was bliss! Yes the next few weeks might be a good time to visit before the school summer holidays start.

Yas Waterpark and Ferrari World? I assumed they would be in my family book but they aren't. Is that because they are only in an Abu Dhabi book? If so would anyone like to do a swap for something in Dubai? Thanks in advance. they are at the front. ( or the back ) They are the glossy ones Its easy to miss them, they just look like an advert but definitely vouchers for both at the front of the family book.

I very much doubt that you will find a villa in the Ranches on short term lease. Try looking at serviced apartments in Tecom or The Greens which isnt too far away - I assume you will have a car when you get here?

If you enter the Freezone at gate 4 keep in the left hand lane and do a u turn before the roundabout. Then take your first right and go straight. Take a right and then you want the last turning on the right before you reach the next junction. The post office is at the end of this road. Hope the directions make sense!

It's the assistants that follow you around but when you ask a question they have no idea about the products that get me annoyed. A while back I called into a pharmacy to look at electric toothbrushes. I knew which brand I wanted but was surprised to see three or four different models so after being followed around the store and then asked 'can I help madam?' I thought oh great maybe she can help me decide which model I need. Needless to say I got no help only informed they were all different prices! As I was in a rush I decided to check on the Internet later rather than stand and read all of the boxes but as I left she shouted, but madam you want to buy hair treatment conditioner! I wouldn't have minded but I had just had my hair done and it was in excellent condition!!

Have they been to see the bed or just bought it from looking at your advert? I would get them to come a view it, and if they want it leave a deposit. They can then arrange collection at a convenient time and pay the balance when they come back. There are a lot of time wasters on Dubizzle so you need to know they are serious buyers. Also if delivery was included you should have mentioned it in the advert (most people would leave this to the buyer)

I usually use Argus car hire and they search for the most competitive prices. The prices are higher than what I paid last summer and its really grating on me how much it will cost to hire a car for less than 2 weeks. I keep checking but the prices remain the same so I guess I should just go ahead and book. http://www.arguscarhire.com/car-hire/uk.html

If my agency maid asked for a large sum of money then I would ask the agency to change the lady immediately. I would need to feel that whoever is in my home when I am at work is trustworthy and this would play on my mind. However my current agancy maid did ask a few months ago if she could have some money for medicine and she would pay me back in 2 weeks time once she had been paid. I had just walked in from a busy day at work and was about to say in no uncertain terms I was not to be asked for money but she said, just 40 dhs madam (and she was full of cold). Given that I give her 100 dhs tip per month and I didnt feel like she was trying to scam me I gave her her tip early and made is clear she would not get anything at the end of the month. The following week she thanked me and she said she felt much better. She has never asked for anyting since so I am sure it was a genuine request and I am glad I helped her.

There are a few brunch vouchers in the Entertainer books but it depends which books you have (some are in the family one and some in the fine dining). Also if you have registered any of your Entertainer books on line you can access special monthly offers which usually include a couple of brunch options.

Are you using a company for the removals? They usually come and take a look at all of your furniture and quote to move it, which will involve disassembly, packing and assembly in the new place.

Update... new parking charges....free for first hour and then chargeable 2nd hour 10 aed sorry didn't notice charges for more than 2 hours. No extra free time given from shopping at Spinneys, OK if just popping to Spinneys but pushing it if meeting friends for lunch or coffee... 1 hour is simply not enough. So no more stamping of tickets if you visit restaurants or the dentist?

I haven't noticed a change in the mornings but the evening traffic has been worse over the past few weeks. It reminds me of pre 2007 when it was always a nightmare getting anywhere.

I saw security talking to a group of children on skate boards and scooters yesterday evening in Alma, not sure what they were doing but maybe someone else has complained? I am all for kids being outside enjoying themselves but their parents should remind them of the dangers of playing on the road.

Fantastic show - even the support did a fab routine...laughed til it hurt !! Glad I didn't take any notice of the people who have posted negatively, we couldn't fault anything... My teen said some of the stuff he'd seen before but we still laughed anyway and his opening routine about expat life in Dubai was hilarious... And he handled the hecklers brilliantly !! Hope he comes back - we'll be first in the queue :D Did you see one of the hecklers getting carried out just before the end of the show? She obviously started on the vino a little too early :)

Just got home from tonight's concert and we really enjoyed it. I was a little unsure after some of the comments on here but really glad we went. We got to the venue at about 7pm and it was very quiet, no queues for food and drinks. Our Premium seats were great, not sure the VIP tickets were worth the extra though. During the interval we got served quickly and the show started just after 8pm so not as long a delay as the previous evening. Some of the jokes were old ones but he did some new stuff (well new to me, guess it depends how much of his shows you have already watched) and I thought he got a great response from the audience. Not the best show I have ever seen but still a great evening. I also thought Al Murrays first Dubai show wasn't brilliant but each year he has returned he has got better and better so hopefully Michael McIntyre will be back again with new material.

Too many people had booked for this treatment and then did not turn up for the appointment. I understand where they are coming from as they will very rarely be able to fill a 3 or 4 hour slot without any prior notice. I dont understand why people cannot cancel their appointments if they cannot make it.
