We went a few years ago, also stayed at The Shandrani. Could not fault the hotel and the all inclusive plan but agree with other replies that there are nicer places to visit. If I had my choice I would go to the Maldives rather than Mauritius but everyone's different, my OH loved it and would go back again.

The Wharf at Mina A Salam is really nice, especially if you can get a table outside. They usually have a singer on from about 8pm and the setting is lovely. There are vouchers in the Entertainer or on a Friday they have an offer where you get a choice of 2 starters, 1 main, deserts from the buffet and also cheese from the cheese room, plus three drinks for 250 dhs.

Morning Ladies, sorry for dragging up an old thread but I just set up my new iPad and would love to download some of the apps to watch some UK tv (BBC and ITV). I know I will need a VPN to do this but wondered how you select the best one? From the earlier posts it appears some are free and some are not. Are the ones that you pay for much better, in terms of security? (Or anything else?). Any recommendations? Also once I get setup I will need a cable to plug the iPad into the tv, where is the best place to get one from? TIA :)

Another vote here for Le Meridien Terrace. I also think there is an all inclusive package at Lattitude (JBH) on a Thursday evening. I haven't been for a while but we used to enjoy the all inclusive nights at Toshi in Grand Millenium Tecom.

I am probably going to be no help because I do not go to Dubai Mall often and find the car park such as maze but on my last two visits I parked quite close to the Waitrose exit. I am not sure where you are coming from but I took the exit towards Souk Al Bahar, immediately after the traffic lights there should but a sign for cinema parking. if you enter the car park at this side you are close to the Waitrose exit, it will all depend on the day how close you can park to the entrance.

Nippy, I am so glad that you got out of here, I briefly followed some of the posts on the other thread and did worry that the court case could offer a very difficult situation for you regarding your children. Smart move on your part and I am sure once you get settled again you will wonder how you ever did what you did in such as short space of time, but you did and it was the best decision for you and yours boys. Very disappointing that your marriage did not work out, especially when children are involved but you can move on from this, it will take time but you have your boys and you are in a country that can offer support. Good luck to you and your boys, you have each other x keep strong x

We went to buy one today, first we tried istyle in Ibn Battuta and they do not have stock . They are expecting a delivery tomorrow but suggested calling first to check. (04 3669797) We also had to call at MOE so we tried Virgin, they are out of stock and expecting a delivery on Sunday. Whilst walking back through MOE we noticed a stall selling them and they have stock! I couldn't believe we had found one - had images of calling round all the stores for the next week. I'm not sure which ones they had but I got the 64gb wifi in black. I can't remember what shops were close to the stall but we parked at C4 end of the mall (near MMI), entered the mall and walked straight, passing Timberland, Gant etc.......if you just go straight it was somewhere on there (before you get to the center where Denenhams is). Also right by the Radley shop was another stall that had stock but it wasn't the one we wanted (sorry cannot remember which ones they had) HTH

No idea when you need the voucher for, I assume by they distress that you needed it tonight :( If not and you still have a few days to get them try giving them a call and explaining, surely if they are aware of website problems they would email them directly to you. Hope you get something sorted.

There are lots of places to pick from, and definitely some of the suggestions below would be on my top 5 list. just to add to the confusion though, if it's really about just you and the hubby having a night away, have a look at The Banyan Tree Al Wadi. The desert resort is so peaceful and the villas are beautiful. Each villa has it's own pool and I thought the room service was excellent, so much so that on our second visit we just ordered food in as you have a great patio area. The Spa is excellent, you should get 60 minutes free in the rain shower experience which is great and if you have the Entertainer Body Book you will have buy one get one free vouchers for other treatments. Enjoy wherever you stay :)

I think you mean the 'verified by visa' payment screen? This should ensure safe on line transactions but I don't think all retailers use it. I think the UK banks must have some tight procedures in place to try and detect fraud as I have had my UK card put on hold twice in the past few months, all related to my on line Christmas shopping! Fortunately after giving them a call and going through all of the security questions they released the hold. I agree it's a pain when you want to use your card but I should be grateful that they take this seriously and try to prevent it happening.

We did this earlier this year and you cannot download it must be an original form. I got someone to pick one up for us and bring back to Dubai but we had plenty of time to arrange. If it's for a renewal the form was really straight forward and didn't take long to complete, maybe he could get to the appointment early and complete then?

You will need to book one of the restaurants in Souk Al Bahar if you want a grape beverage. Definitely book in advance if you can if you want a table with fountain view in any of the restaurants as I doubt you will get these tables if you just turn up. If you don't get a table with fountain views you can always walk down to the bridge to watch before or after your meal. I think Rivington Grill has a childrens menu, there is also The Meat Company, and I am sure there is an Italian but I cannot remember the name. You will find all of these restaurants family friendly, especially early evening time.

Sorry I don't know where Bateel is either, but just wanted to add the car park is only free for the first 1 hour (I think!) After the first hour its quite exepnsive but I think if you get your parking ticket stamped at one of the retailers it is free (thats how it works if you visit the dentist). Last time I went to the dentist I forgot and it cost me 75 dhs!! so I have a mental note not to forget again (if its not bad enough paying for the dentist, then having to pay for parking too!)

Most companies now have a minimum 4 hour call out fee so your friend might have to decide if she has extra work to fill the time, such as ironing. If you do a search on here you might find companies which offer 2 hours as I remember this being discussed on previous posts. When I lived in The Greens I used a few different companies, including Howdra who I still use now.

We did the brunch a while ago and loved it but we were there in a large group to celebrate a birthday. Its definitely a party atmosphere and not somewhere I would recommend for children (I dont think they are allow in now?). The food was good and the drinks selection was excellent. It attracts the younger crowd and towards the end everyone has certainly had a few. I have heard horror stories of people being really drunk and even fighting but when we were there I saw no trouble. Would I go for Christmas brunch? - No, its just not what I would enjoy on Christmas day but thats just my opinion.

I got the same subscription a few years ago but got sick of the delivery guy throwing the paper on the drive for me to pick up (what had not blown away) after I got home from work. I even got one of their delivery boxes but even after endless phone calls the delivery guy never used it.

I love my Philips air fryer and I use it at least two or three times a week. Some of the ladies on here rave about it and use it everyday. If you do a search you will find the threads, which also have some suggestion for thing other than chips.

I have only used them for carpet and curtain cleaning and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Excellent service, fairly priced and the guys they sent did a great job.

I imagine quite a few places are open in the Madinat for lunch, there is also The Dhow and Anchor in JBH, Jamie's Italian at Festival City (also due to open early 2013 in JBH). Some golf clubs offer brunch but many also serve from the al a carte menu.

We had dinner yesterday at The Wharf in Mina Al Salam. The food and service was excellent and our visitors loved sitting outside on the terrace. I noticed quite a few people had small children with them. We also had pre dinner drinks at Shimmers bar. There are vouchers in the fine dining book for The Wharf.

We have been to Lily Beach twice and loved it. The first time we booked through the travel agents in Arabian Ranches as they quoted very competitively, but the second time it worked out cheaper booking through Agoda.com and booking flights direct with Emirates.

I also tried to book a few weeks ago and they told me it closed for good the first week of November. I noticed an advert yesterday for a new Jamie's Italian opening in JBH early 2013 so I assume this is why it closed.

I've been using them since they opened and very happy with the cut, highlights and kerastraight treatments. I've used a few different stylists, all were very good but for my Kerastraight I always book with Becky who is great.

I'm looking at some restaurant reviews on Timeout Dubai and I can't see any explanation of the example price they give. ie is that the average price for a meal for one or two, does it include wine, or perhaps the average price of a main course etc? I think its usually the average price for 2 excluding alcohol.

What are you looking for, clothes or equipment? There are quite a few in Mirdif City Center, Decathalon, Sun and Sand and some other but I cannot remember the names. There is also a sports store on the ground floor in MOE near Ski Dubai.

I'm not sure if they have changed the brunch but a year or so ago I went to the one upstairs - the one that serves lots of different flavoured mojito's. It's definintely not a brunch for families, more suited to the younger crowd who want a party atmosphere. I think they also do a brunch downstairs which might be more suited to families, hopefully someone else can help with that.

If anyone else is still looking for ideas The Ivy are offering a set Christmas menu which also looks really good. There are three different pacakages 350, 450 and 500 dhs (food only). We did this last year and it was excellent but we wanted a change which is why we booked Table 9. This is the 350 dhs menu Severn and Wye smoked salmon with brown bread and butter or Cauliflower soup with walnut pesto or Artichokes (P) with quails’ eggs, pancetta and truffle oil ~ Traditional Turkey roast (P) with all the trimmings or Pan-fried sea bass with crushed potato, shrimp & caper butter or Wild mushroom tortellini with winter truffle with truffle oil Sides: honey-roasted parsnips, cauliflower gratin, buttered greens, braised red cabbage ~ Sherry trifle (A) or Christmas pudding (A) with brandy sauce or Chocolate Bûche de Noëlwith sour cherries ~ Tea, Coffee & mince pies

We decided to book Table 9, the menu looks great. roasted chestnut pot foie gras, quince, mulled berries lobster & shrimp cocktail - roasted turkey ‘properly garnished’ or pork belly, pumpkin, bok choi, crackling or halibut, cauliflower, sage, caper berries _ raspberry, ginger, elderflower, meringue stilton christmas pudding mince pie and candies 450dhs

Yorky - pretty much every 5* here will do a Christmas lunch (I hear Meydan and Bab Al shams are amazing) - we are going to JBH. However, if it's a "back up plan" make sure you get in early and book now - tables are going fast (Al Qasr was fully booked in September!) and also, we have to pay upfront in full by 15th December! So it might be worth making your plans firmly and deciding. Also - many hotels will lay on the full spread with decorations but also do a brunch style selection so yes you will find dim sum, butter chicken and sushi on the menu too! I would pick your fave hotel and go there so you know what to expect if you already like the ambience and food quality. We did Al Qasr a few years ago and we really enjoyed it but we don't want to do a brunch this year. We are looking for somewhere that serves a traditional turkey dinner from a menu.
