Most of the turkeys serve 8 to 10 people which is way too much for us. I don't mind some leftovers but there is a limit to how creative I can be with turkey leftovers! Does anyone know anywhere that serves smaller turkeys or even just the turkey crown? TIA

My opinion is that dry or wet months should not play a factor in your decision to visit Malaysia. The difference in rain is not that much. What you may want to consider is the weather differential with Dubai. In other words, Malaysia has very similar weather throughout the year: 24-33C, humid . If you go from Dec-March, you will be leaving near-perfect weather in Dubai to 30C + which will feel hotter OTTH, if you go June-Sept when its 35-45 here, even 30C in Malaysia will feel like mild weather and you will feel you have gone to a cooler place. I totally agree regarding the weather in Dubai, which is why we try not to take holidays out of this region when its nice. We also have some work commitments next year that will restrict when we can travel so its going to be June, August or October for the Langkawi trip. I would also like to visit Thailand next year but again that would be August or October so rainy season again. Its our first visit to both destinations so Im probably just worrying too much that we will have a solid week of rain and I will not hear the last of it!

Sorry to hijack the thread again :) For any of you ladies that have been to Langkawi what months are the best to travel? I've done some research online and some sources suggest April to August are the best months to visit but then I got advice from Trip Advisor that I should expect more rain in August than October. The more I read the more confused I get! My original plan was to visit in August but now I am wondering if I should change it to June or October (these are the only other months we can travel) Any advice would be much appreciated :)

Which type of room would you recommend for 2 adults? We can get a Rainforest chalet including full board for the same price as a Rainforest Studio without any meals but I cannot decide if full board is worth it. How did you find the price of food and drinks in the hotel? TIA It was over two years ago that we stayed there, so costs are a bit hazy, especially as we've since been working in 4 different currencies.... It was a lovely beach resort backed up to a forest, it is secluded and not part of the pantai cenang strip...which is good or bad depending on what you are looking for....the spa was lovely. We stayed at a sea view chalet which was perfect for us. You could always check out what the tripadvisor has to say about them. :) edited by Sugarbeach on 04/11/2012 Thank you :)

We stayed at the Shandrani a few years ago and it was excellent value for money. The whole resort is all inclusive and you have a selection of restaurants offering buffet or al a carte. I would also recommend the day trip on the catamaran from the hotel.

I think you will find it will be at the discretion of the management on any of the courses. For insurance purposes they do not generally allow any spectators. I would suggest emailing a few of the courses to ask and confirm that you will hire a buggy for the round of golf so you are not walking the course.

There is a firework display at Arabian Ranches golf club on the 9th November but I think it is sold out....if you call the golf club reception they should be able to confirm.

I would rather save to buy something new. If I bought second hand I would always wonder if it was a fake or not. To invest that kind of money in a bag you need to be 100% happy and as you have your doubts I think you made the right decision by not buying it.

Another vote for Arabian Ranches, it's a really nice community with plenty of facilities. There is the community shopping center, doctors, plus the golf club. If its just the two of you one of the villas in Alma (closest to shopping center and golf club) or Al reem or Palmera would be plenty big enough and there will be space to park both cars on the drive. Also some of the villas in Arabian Ranches are newer than the Springs, although the condition often depends on how the previous tenents have treated it and how much the landlord is willing to pay for repairs. I would also consider the traveling distance from both to work before making a decision. You might also fins something within budget in The Lakes.

A doctor once recommended it for my OH for his cluster migraines. He did about six sessions but it didn't help, sometimes it actually brought on a migraine attack so he stopped going. Even the guy doing the acupuncture was surprised that it didn't work so he obviously had treated people suffering from migraine successfully. Yorky - it is good to hear of someone else has these cluster migraines, as my OH suffers as well, nothing works for him over here, no drugs of any kind. So thanks for the headsup that acupuncture might - not sure he would believe it though. Do they stick the pins in your head for that? I didn't actually go into the treatment room when he had it done and I cannot remember where he said they put the needles. He suffers really bad when he gets them, and nothing works which is why he tried this. He was desperate to find some kind of relief and I encouraged him to try it as its awful to see someone suffer and not be able to help. he usually gets the attacks every 3 years or so, but they can last up to 3 months. Exactly the same as my OH, I took him to the hospital for a MRI and CTScan as I could not handle it myself anymore, but they found nothing - it is so odd that it is irregular and can skip years, does his also happen at the same time of year? I haven't really thought about any connection with the time of the year but looking back no it's not always the same. He had the scans years ago and they found nothing. I know migraine can be stress related but he gets stressed at other times but it doesnt bring on a cluster attack. He also doesnt think its a food intolerance reaction as the attacks can be years apart, but once he is in a cluster he does avoid alcohol / dairy products.

I also looked at Constance Moofushi and nearly booked it but I couldn't really tell what the pool area was like. I know you have the beach and sea but we also like a decent swimming pool. For those of you who have been what was the pool area like? TIA :) (Sorry for hijacking the thread!)

We have been to Lily Beach twice and loved it. The whole resort is all inclusive so you don't need to wear wrist bands or eat in certain restaurants. The all inclusive plan is really good and even includes the mini bar in your room. They do a few excursions from the resort such as a sunset cruise, fishing, snorkeling etc. All non motorized water sports are free, including the snorkeling equipment. There isn't much entertainment at night but there are two different bars so you can have a change of scenery. (I'm not sure the Maldives is the place for night life)

Japengo has quite a varied menu so you should find something to suit everyone or if the kids like Italian then I would also agree that Toscana would be a good choice.

I also agree Jebel Ali is great for a weekend break. We also really like the Hilton Resort & Spa in RAK, both very family friendly.

I think its almost impossible to use nearly all of the vouchers from any of the books, but some vouchers offer great discounts so you only need to use one or two and you have covered the cost of the book. The Body Book doesnt come out until 1st April so I would take a look online or at a display copy and see how many vouchers you think you will use. This year I didnt bother buying it as the hairdressers and nail salon that I use are not included and I like to use the same place.

Is Discovery Gardens a nice area to stay in? yes but you should definitely rent a car since it is far from the center and taxis are expensive I agree Discovery Gardens is further out than the other locations mentioned (Tecom, JLT, Barsha, Marian etc) but taxis are not expensive in Dubai. I don't know where the OP is coming from but taxi fares are significantly cheaper in Dubai than the UK for example.

We have been to Lily Beach twice and loved it. Its an all inclusive island and the choice of food and drink is excellent. I found the best rates on Agoda.com but if thats out of budget Trip Advisor has some good reviews for other resorts.

I've been to Mauritius once and the Maldives three times so you can probably guess which one I would go for :) I enjoyed Mauritius but we probably visited at the wrong time of the year (August) and the weather wasn't too good. There is more to do and see in Mauritius (if that's what you want) but I just don't think you can beat the Maldives for a relaxing break. Also the flight time to Maldives is approx 4 hours but almost 6.1/2 to Mauritius. After our last visit to the Maldives earlier this year I said we would go somewhere different next year but to be honest I am finding it hard to pick somewhere else!

Why is it filling you with dread? Surely the visiting family understand you do not have a car big enough to transport all of you, and would therefore be expecting to use some form of public transport? I agree sometimes arranging two taxis at the same time can be difficult but it can be done, just leave sufficient time to get to where you are going. If I were visiting family or friends I would never expect them to hire bigger cars to accommodate us. Try not to stress, I am sure it will work out fine (easier said than done I know, I am the worlds worst when it comes to visitors :) )

It's Asian night at Chanels in Media Rotana and there is usually an all inclusive deal on at Toshi in Grand Millenium. There is also a new one at Minstral in Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel but I haven't tried that one yet.

I wouldn't sit outside, far too hot for me yet. I have sat in both restaurants and I didn't think one was better than the other. The childrens play area is in The Wharf so good to be in that restaurant if you have little ones, but we didn't have loads of kids running about so don't let that put you off. Also the majority of the food in The Wharf contains p0rk so if that's a problem I would go for Al Muna. I wouldn't worry too much, it's a great brunch and as long as you get a table inside you can wander about and get a feel for the other restaurant for next time.

Is this for Friday brunch tho? As far as I know these restaurants are buffet all the time and accept the vouchers for any of their buffet nights but Friday brunch is out. If someone can confirm that would be great. TIA! :) Yes, we used vouchers for Al Muna and Anise for Friday brunch not the normal buffet evenings.

I have used the vouchers for Al Muna twice this year, both times no problem paying a little extra to upgrade to the alcohol package. The last time I used them was probably 2 or 3 months ago. I also had visitors over in June that used the vouchers for brunch at Anise and they also paid a little extra to upgrade. I would definately check before booking though. I think sometimes it is down to the descresion of the restaurant as many vouchers say 'excluding alcohol' but then some let you upgrade.

Bahri Bar have 2 for 1 drink offers on 4pm to 8pm, The Agency have 50% off selected drinks 6pm to 8pm, and BarZar have 2 for 1 on selected drinks 6pm to 8pm. Dhow and Anchor also have happy hour 6pm to 7pm. I'm not sure how busy any of these places get with the after brunch crowds though.

Al Muna at Mina Al Salam is in the family book and Anise at the Intercontinental is in the fine dining book. You can upgrade to the alcohol package with both vouchers.

There are lots of all you can eat and drink deals on in the evening, not sure if you will get a lunchtime brunch mid week though. In addition to the ones already mentioned there is Flavours on Two at Media Rotana, Latitude at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Village Terrace at Le Meridien, also Dante and Toshi at Grand Millennium
