We thought the food was really good, and enjoyed sitting on the outdoor terrace but that was in the cooler months. The prices are a little expensive but you can tell they are using very good ingredients.

Flavours on Two at Towers Rotana usually gets good reviews. I haven't been for a while but we used to enjoy the theme nights at Toshi at The Grand Millenium in Tecom. Le Meridien Village Terrace is good but only in the cooler months.

Oman is a lovely place to visit and relatively short traveling time. You can drive in approx 5 hours or fly. Personally we prefer to fly as it's only one hour and you can get good deals on Fly Dubai or Oman Air. Alternatively you could drive to the Oman border near Hatta and then stay the night at Hatta Fort Hotel.

Jebel Ali usually do some day pass deals with spa treatments, or you could buy the Entertainer Body Book which has vouchers for beach pass and spa treatments.

I looked at rates for the Eid holidays and most places had already put their prices up so it might not be a cheap weekend away. Try checking the Hilton Resort and Spa in RAK, lovely hotel and entertainer vouchers for the resaurants.

You can buy the Slimming World magazines out here, I've bought it a few times from Waitrose at Marina Mall, and I am sure they will stock it in other stores too. This thread has given me the motivation to get my SW books back out, but first I need to go shopping and stock up on some of the free foods :) Yorky you have made my day! I don't have any of my old SW books so I will need to the hit the net for the free foods and syn values of things but it has been so long since I had a muller light that I shan't search high and low for them. I have checked out Diet Momma FB page too and I have the motivation to get back on it again. Need to buy some scales though to see just how bad it has got!! I have the books but I will still need to register online as I find it difficult getting some of the items here that I would eat back home and I will need to calculate the syns. Thats probably the hardest part of doing the diet here, back home the books are excellent as the list every type of food and brand available. I will try and eat as much stuff that is syn free as possible. To be honest, I ate EE almost every day with fresh home cooked everyday food and avoided packaged things. I do miss the low syn bangers though! I need to have a good read through, register online as you are doing and get back into it again. I saved my syns for clear spirits and diet mixers. I will also be saving my syns for the important stuff :)

I work in the public sector and we don't usually get Arafat Day off, I think this only applies to the private sector (but I could be wrong). If Eid Al-Adha falls on Friday 26th, I think we will get Sunday off.

We have done it a few times with visitors and never booked in advance. Even on weekends we have got on the next boat no problem. I don't recall them having any toilets onboard.

You should get a text message when the credit is added to your account. I had this happen once but I had just landed in the UK and when the guy called me to say he had made a mistake in typing the number I had no idea how to send it back, especially as I was in th Uk. I felt really bad, even though it wasn't my mistake, it was only 10 dhs but obviously was a gift for someone.

We had the same problem last weekend(we are in Alma). We were on our way out last Friday afternoon and the water went off. I also assumed that we wouldn't get it fixed until Saturday but we called DEWA to check if there was a problem and they sent someone out within two hours (excellent service, especially for a Friday). They opened one of the valves in the pump cupboard outside that gave us the water supply back. We did however notice the water pressure had dropped, especially when using the shower so we had them back a few days later. They tested the pressure which was okay so they suggested we got the pump checked. I called Mplus, the maintenance section of Emril last night at 6pm and they came out and fixed it within two hours. DEWA didn't charge anything for either call out and Mplus charged 200 dhs. It might be worth giving either of them a call to see if they can come out sooner than Saturday.

Have you tried Bio Sculpture? I always had Gelish but tried Bio Sculpture a few months ago and I am really happy with the results. I find it lasts much longer and doesn't peel like the Gelish sometimes can. They do Bio Sculpture at the Nail Spa in the Arabian Ranches Golf Club (they have other branches too). It's not cheap but I find the service very good and the salon is nice and hygienic.

Vouchers for Anise can be used on a Friday for the food only package but you can upgrade to the full package so still good value. Mina Al Salam (Al Muna) are in the family book and are also valid for the food only package but you can also upgrade for a small amount.

When I first arrived in Dubai I had to use an electric hob and oven, the oven was no problem as I preferred this but it took a while to get used to the electric hob but you do used to it. When we moved we bought our own so we got gas hob and electric oven which is what I prefer. I think in the 18 months we have had the cooker we have used two or three gas bottles.

Maple hopefully you are staying in a reputable hotel whilst in Dubai, they don't need to be five star to be decent hotels. I have stayed at and visited many hotels and not felt uncomfortable. Once you lock your hotel room door no one can enter so you should feel safe in your room. If you don't want to eat it the hotel on your own in the evenings head out to a mall where there are lots of people around in the food courts.

On our last two trips to the Maldives we booked on the 10am Emirates flight and got the seaplane no problem. I think we left the resort at 7am and the seaplane took approx 30 minutes. The resort will arrange all the departure times so you could check directly with them to avoid a long wait at Male airport. There isn't much to do at the airport so I would avoid a long wait if possible. We have had two excellent holidays at Lilly Beach which offer an all inclusive plan.

Is it your first summer/Ramadan in Dubai? I work full time but always find the summer months, especially during Ramadan really slow, as in work is slow and friends are away or people don't go out as much. It didn't really bother us so much for the first four years but for the past two years we have taken at least one weeks holiday during this time because it breaks up the summer months and we are usually less busy at work. Don't get me wrong I love the community spirit of Ramadan and don't have a problem with the fasting laws. I often have my moments too....but what do I want to do? I guess we all have times where we need to look at the future but I would say wait another month or two and see if you feel the same again, I find Dubai is a different place when it's enjoyable (weather wise!) We pay 300 dhs per month for the gardener to come three times per week (medium sized garden with trees and bushes around the edge). They usually make a good job and if we call them the respond quickly to any problems.

I've used the shop next to Park n Shop on Al Wasl road a few times for framing and replacement glass, always good quality and service. if you have a few ask for the 'best' price as you might get a discount from what they originally quote you.

Okay so if it's the end of this month I would book quite soon as I think the brunches straight after Ramadan can get quite busy. I did the Mina Al Salam brunch last month and even though the brunch has moved indoors for the summer I thought it was still very good, equally I did the Al Qasr brunch last summer and that was also very good (just a little different not having the cooking and drink stations outside). I also tried the brunch at Saffron (Atlantis) earlier this year and thought it was great but it was for a large group of us celebrating a birthday and it's definitely a party atmosphere.

When do you plan to do the brunch, there are some great ones with outdoor terraces but if it's in the next two months probably best to stay indoors. Do you have a budget in mind? Is it adults only or do you need entertainment for children also?

I have also used Damas in MOE and found them very helpful and reasonably priced. It was no problem that the ring wasn't bought from them.

You could also try the waste management services at Dulsco (800 WASTE) http://www.dulsco.com/Contact_Details I've used them in the past to take away some old garden furniture and they charges 50 dhs.

When I rented a two bedroom apartment in the Greens I paid approx 500 dhs per month for DEWA (no additional AC bills). Any small maintenance issues we had were done through Emril, who charge a call out fee and then quote according to the repair costs, but you might get full cover from the landlord? For Internet, tv and telephone I got a package through Du. The overall cost for this will depend on what TV packages you want and also which Internet package, you should find the current package details on the OSN website. If you want to furnish the apartment on a budget then I would suggest looking at Dubizzle for secondhand or Ikea for new items. Curtains and blinds can also be purchased from Ikea or Dragon Mart. Sharaf DG, C4 or Geant have a good selection of electrical appliances. The deposit is usually 5% of the total rental value. You should also consider the agents fess and also the deposits for DEWA and DU. I think grocery shopping is difficult to estimate as everyone has different ideas of what is good value. One way to keep costs down would be to plan your meals so you only buy what you are going to use, or buy in bulk and make extra portions so they can be frozen. Also consider the location for public transport options if you don't drive.

I lived in the Greens for almost four years and loved it, so much so that I was a little negative about our move to Arabian Ranches but we have been here for almost two years and I love it here. It's difficult to say which I prefer because I did enjoy my time in the Greens but I think now I am enjoying the benefits of living of a villa it would have to be Arabian Ranches.

Thank you for the replies, just as I thought I will need to try and get one from the UK. I have the phone number ready to make the appointment but the earliest we can phone is Saturday and with only a few days available in our scheduled its going to be tight so I was just trying to get organised. I've also found a company who will do the express service for you so all you need to do is post the documents to them. It costs another £120 but I am going to look into it.

Make sure you ask how long each one should last, I know everyones hair is different and it also depends on the products you use and how often you wash or style it, but I'm sure I had the Biolustre done more often than the Kerastraight. I can't remember exactly but I think for me 2 treatments of Biolustre are equivalent to 1 treatment of Kerastraight so it's worth considering once they give you the price. (hope that makes sense!)

I was happy with the service and treatments at Pastels but Ted Morgans at Motor city is a better location for me. Yorky who did u go to at pastels? or u think they r all good? i ve never been there b4.. actually am a dubai newbie :D thnks again I think his name was Joe, but I've heard good reviews about all of the stylist so I would just see who is available. Oh I just remembered Gina from Ted Morgans has just moved to the branch on the Palm, it's Becki that I use now. I've tried a few of the stylists at Ted Morgans and thought they were all very good.

I did Biolustre a few years ago and although I liked it to start with I don't think the results were lasting and I frequently had to use the hair straighteners. Last year I tried Kerastaight and I love it. The results are fantastic. I wash my hair every morning and use the hairdryer because I am in a rush for work but I only need to rough blow dry it and it's still straight and shiney. On the weekends I usually wash it and leave it to dry naturally which doesn't take long (my hair is just past my shoulders), and I never need to use the hair straighteners. It's not cheap and I would only recommend you use a reputable hair salon who know what they are doing. I am very happy with the results and think it's worth the cost. I also only use the Kerastraight shampoo and conditioner and once a week apply a moisture or protien mask.

There was a company advertising them a few weeks ago at Arabian Ranches Golf Club. I don't think they were second hand but it might be worth contacting one of the golf clubs to see if they can put you in contact with some of the companies that they use.
