I noticed a few days ago that they have put up the respectful clothing signs at the entrance to the shopping centre in Arabian Ranches. I did wonder if they had gone up in any other communities and if there would be a campaign to enforce some of the decency laws?

I think you will find most places are open for delivery before Iftar. Even if they are not open from lunchtime they will probably open at 5pm. I had a text from Chimes today and they are open from 11.30am for deliveries.

We have been twice to the one in the desert (the beach resort is a twenty minute drive away from the main hotel). We have stayed in both the Al Rimal deluxe pool villa and the Al Khaimah tented pool villa. We couldn't fault either villa, both are very spacious, clean and well furnished. The only difference is that the outdoor space is much smaller in the Al Rimal villas (but they are cheaper). The spa is really nice, especially the rain forrest experience, which is usually complementary for the first 60 minutes. Service is usually really good, although last time we stayed I had to request house keeping to clean the room because they hadn't been by 3pm and the light to clean the room had been on since 9.30am. They were very appologetic and sent someone straight away. I wouldn't say the food in Al Waha or Saffron is 5* quality, we have had much better meals in Dubai for far less money but others may disagree. We only usually go for 2 nights and order room service most of the time as you have plenty of space to eat on the outdoor terrace.

Thanks for that Yorky as we're off to Lilly Beach in August!!! You can do the Maldives cheapER but never cheapLY. We booked Chayaa Reef Elaidhoo last yaer which was fine...not uber luxury but OK and great diving. I took DD for a mother / daughter long weekend in Feb to a cheapo place (Club Faru) and that was grim...I'd never go bottom end all inclusive again. We book through Agoda. In terms of flights, Emirates are the most expensive (we paid 6,000 each last summer and that was economy). When I took DD we flew via Doha, adding 2 hours onto the journey and taking off 6000 AED!! Lucky you.....enjoy :)

I checked the rates last year using the Travel Entertainer vouchers and didnt find any a great deal. Personally I think you will find much better searching yourself on websites such as Agoda.com and Booking.com The prices of the resorts do vary in quality and price so hopefully you can find something in your budget. One of our favourites is Lily Beach which only offers all inclusive. We prefer the beach bungalows so cannot comment on th e water villas but generally they are always a lot more money no matter which resort you stay at. The all inclusive plan is very good, all premium drinks and excellent food. We were there in April this year and also last August and had fantastic holidays both times. Whatever you do don't check the rates on their website, they are much much higher than what you can really get on Agoda or Booking.com I also found the Maldives travel forum on Trip Advisor very helpful.

I bought one a few weeks ago and it would easily serve 10 to 12 people (unless they want a really big slice!) If you go into the store they have a catalogue of all the designs and when I went they had one waiting for collection that they let me have a look at. The one I got was 175 dhs and I paid an extra 30 dhs to have it delivered.

For jewellery repairs we have used Damas a few times and always happy with the quality and service. For the watch, if its an expensive one I would suggest contacting the manufacturer.

We have used them a few times and always found them really good. Why don't you give them a call and ask for their advise? If they don't have anyone to do the stitches you could try Cedars emergency room at Jebel Ali. <em>edited by Yorky on 07/07/2012</em>

We went on Thursday for the first time and we didn't think it quite lived up to all the hype. All the food that we ordered was delicious (small portions though), but the service was lacking at times. We were shown to our table straight away but felt like we were left ages before they gave us the menu. Once we ordered everything was okay until we asked for a second bottle of wine.......15 minutes later no sign of it and another waitress asked if we wanted to order a drink! After explaining we had already ordered she came back 2 minutes later to advise they didn't have any of that wine left, which was a bit disappointing.

I can't find the thread from last week but just wanted to confirm it is now open. I have been today and the salon is really nice, the staff were friendly and the treatments I had were excellent. They are open daily from 10am to 10pm, and are located on the first floor in the golf club.

I agree with fairycakeyumm, don't buy the clubs until he has had some lessons and decides if he likes it. There are lots of great courses in Dubai and they all have packages available for beginner lessons. I only started playing late last year and didn't buy any clubs until I had had quite a few lesson. The coach will be able to advise on a good set or he could do the swing analysis and have them made to measure, but it all depends on how much he likes it / how often he wants to play and how much money he wants to spend. I would look for a club that it either close to home or where his colleagues / friends play.

I have the Body book too! DH and I share it, you can go by yourself and pay the first time and then second is free. We both use it for haircuts, i have only used the spa side of it once at Bab Al Shams too! DH goes to a different hairdressers all the time as he isnt fussy about his hair. Good to know that both services from Body Book don't have to be at the same time ... Feel a bit conflicted Have already spent like 700 on the Entertainer books this year but I was just checking out the vouchers in the Body and Travel Book on the website and they look really tempting but I'd feel too guilty if I bought both The Body Book has a better validity cause it's till March (or is April) next year but the Travel vouchers are so much better value for money Any suggestions? Oh by the way, The Dangerous Blonde .. I bought the Travel Entertainer last year but only used one voucher, but that one voucher saved me approx 3000 dhs so well worth the cost of the book. I wouldn't buy it again unless there was a specific voucher that I was going to use. I think there are quite a few deals available without having to purchase the book. The offer is quite good though if you are getting another book for free. Even though we are half way through the year you can easily save the cost of the book by using only a few vouchers.

I've not used it myself but this link gives the rates for long term parking, although it does say the carpark is 5 minutes away so you still need to use the feeder bus. I recently ordered a giant 'cupcake' birthday cake from Hey Sugar in MCC. It cost 175 dhs and delivery charge was 30 dhs. I requested delivery on a Friday morning at 10am and they turned up on time and the cake was beautiful. They have a catalogue of cakes and I'm sure they had some with Spiderman on. You could also try Park and Shop, they also have a catalogue of cakes. Both places only require a few days notice but if you know exactly when you need the cake I would order a couple of weeks in advance.

Andrews Ties ? There is a store in MOE opposite the Nike store near C4, not sure about childrens sizes though but you could phone them to save a wasted trip. Or what about one of the places in Satwa that hire suits / tuxedos?

On AR golf club Facebook page says it will open on the 4th July now. I guess a few more days won't hurt, afterall it was originally expected to open last year! I will be at the golf club at the weekend so I will check.

We went several years ago in the summer and it was horrible, far too hot to enjoy any of the food or entertainment but that was August / September time so it might be okay now if the humidity isnt too high. If I were you I would decide on the day if you think you want to go, I doubt they will be fully booked.

We also did a day trip on a catamaran which we really enjoyed. They stopped off at another hotel for a few hours and you could use their pool and beach facilities, and on the way back they cooked fresh fish and chicken on the bbq which was delicious. Most of the things we did came from leaflets and information found in the hotel. We did book one day trip with a driver but decided we would prefer to drive ourselves and hired a car for 3 or 4 days.

the botanical gardens a drive through the sugar cane plantations is interesting and you might see wild boar I had an amazing meal in a restaurant right up in the forest - you drive up in a 4 x 4 and the restaurant is right at the top - spectacular views and the food was amazing - sorry can't remember the name. visit the markets at Port Louis Mauritius is a small island and well worth exploring. enjoy - I'm very jealous!!!! We visited the new shopping centre (can't remember the name) at Port Louis and felt safe but we were advised to avoid the main market used by the locals due to bag snatchings and pick pockets. I'm not sure if it has changed but that was 2 or 3 years ago.

The Springs should be within your budget but I doubt you will get something in this price range in the Meadows, at a push maybe The Lakes. You could also consider Arabian Ranches (Al Reem, Alma or Palmera), which would be approx 30 minutes to Internet City. If you prefer an apartment over a villa then also consider The Greens which is very close to Internet City and is a nice family community.

Thanks Yorky... do you know roughly how much it is? Some are on a budget... Thanks We went a few weeks ago and I think they also had a discount becasue it's summer. There were 6 adults and 2 children so we used three entertainer vouchers and the two children under 12 were free. It cost each adult approx 210 dhs each. I think during the winter is was approx 260 dhs each with the voucher.

There should have been an inventory check done on the day you moved out and handed the keys back. This should be signed by you and the landlord or agent. If he claims to need to clean / repair he will need to provide receipts and debuct this from your deposit and return the balance.

Hi Ruth, we are in a 2E in Alma and find it quite spacious (inside and out). There are 3 bedrooms, all good sizes plus another room upstairs that is plenty big enough for a study. We have a large desk and bookcase in ours and there is plenty of space.There is also a room downstairs that is enclosed that could be used as a study (bigger than the upstairs study). Our garden is quite big too, although when I walk around Alma I do see some much smaller than ours but they could be smaller villas? It might be worth contacting an agent so you can go and view one and see for yourselves. Its a great community and really good being so close to the shopping center and golf club.
