Everyone has their own frustrations with the banks so not sure if anyone is better than the other. Personally I have no complaints with Commercial Bank of Dubai. When I send money home or offshore I use one of the money exchange places in the mall. If you transfer a decent amount they will offer a different rate to what is advertised and money has always arrived to the specified account within a few days.

Other years I bought the book and it came with a booklet with travel deals. Does the fine dining app have the travel offers as well? I think the offer is still available until the end of this week. If you buy any book or app directly from the Entertainer they give you a free travel book or app depending which you have purchased. It's bigger than the travel supplement in previous years and I believe they are not available to buy seperately but they could change that later in the year.

So, Al Muna or Beachcombers. Which one is better, kids are 8 and 4. If you are going while the weather is so nice I would say Beachcombers because they can run around outsdie the restaurant on the beach. Al Muna is quite spread out so you would need someone watching them if you are not sat next to the kids area. The food at Beachcombers is mainly Asian but the kids buffet has different food available.

I think there is some information on the Entertainer website regarding sharing on a few devices so you can use between the family or guests. I think they will need to be in an area with wifi though to use the app voucher so might be worth considering depending on where they are going.

dear ladies; sorry to be depressing; we are very close friends to relatives of the pilot's family. I know its a few days ago now but I just cant get over it. I am still devastated and utterly broken hearted. I feel i shall never get over it. My oldest son is hooked on the news day in and day out. We are utterly proud of the king, really proud of him and i am really proud that he is showing the world how jordanians really are, something we already knew anyway. I just cant get over the news these days; nowhere feels safe. And i cant get over this terrible event. I dont know what to say. Just sharing that with you all as those on this thread felt the same way. May God protect us from this evil force and take our minds to moments of purity and goodness and lives to good works and safety. I have no words that can ease the pain but you are not alone, I believe many of us are still struggling to comprehend the way human beings can act towards their own x

We have also noticed an increase in the past few weeks. They are driving me mad!! I have only seen them in the kitchen, mainly near the dishwasher and cooker. I have emptied and cleaned the cupboard under the sink which is where I saw one last week and found no evidence of any others. I have cleaned under the cooker and the side of the dishwasher as best I can. I have also put some traps down but nothing has been found but every few days I see the odd one (much smaller than the ones we found a few weeks ago). I also do not leave any food out and load the dishwasher straight after dinner. Any other suggestions or should we get pest control? Any recommendations for companies to use?

Thank you so much for your reply... So it sounds as though it's do-able. Like everyone, I don't want to go there and struggle, or really even feel like we have to watch our money. The following will sound like strange questions at this stage, but enable a quick decision re villa/apartment car/no car: If people with children don't have a car, is it normal to take a taxi and not use carseats? Is the traffic really slow? I forgot to add that we have a dog...are dogs permitted in condos? Or that would restrict us to a villa? Can dogs go in taxis? edited by ChilliChai on 29/01/2015 Yes dogs are permitted in some condos but you need to check with the developer / landlord first. You can also get an agent to help select suitable properties to view once you arrive.

Thanks for the advice I don't think I have time to pass here though. My instructor says there is no reason I shouldn't pass, it's my nerves only. Been driving the test routes a million times... Why is it a nightmare for your friend to get a licence? I'm willing to have a number of lessons no problem, but why would it be so much harder to pass than in the UK? Thanks! You have already mentioned on the other post that you have visited Dubai many times so I'm sure if you have travelled around you have witnessed some of the careless driving here in Dubai? Most of the feedback you are getting is from people who have driven in both countries and most are advising the UK is a far better place to pass the test and I have to agree. I assume you are driving a manual car in the UK? Here most take the test in an automatic because it's cheaper and the preferred car to drive. If it's just your nerves I would suggest talking to you instructor to overcome some of the anxiety and try another test in the UK. Driving in a new city with unfamiliar roads isn't going to help you if its your nerves. I also believe on your test there can be other candidates sat in the car taking their test so a very different situation to taking a test in the UK a. Good luck Careem is a private taxi company that now offer cars with baby seats

I don't have any specific figures but from feed back from friends they said food shopping is much more expensive especially meat. Alcohol is also more expensive than Dubai. Very few people live in villas most stay in apartments and although some are in great communities they can look a bit tired compared to some of the new buildings in Dubai. It is also very expensive to own or rent a car so most people use public transport which is very good. Maybe try posting the same on the Singapore forum

I believe here you have to take a minimum number of lessons before each test which can increase the cost and delay when you can apply to take the test again. It would be much better if you could pass in the UK. Maybe ask your driving instructor for a few lessons driving the routes taken on the test to boost your confidence.

I do not know if it is possible to re-marry again in church as a Catholic but to have a marriage legally recognised here in Dubai it would need to take place in one of the churches. I would suggest contacting them first as they are usually very helpful and knowledgeable. If this is not a valid option there are lots of options for getting married outside of the UAE. Good luck :)

Isn't it too early to go shopping at the mall when you are doing the morning school run? Why don't you inform her in advance that you have a busy week planned so she will need to make some travel arrangements to get her from A to B and give her taxi numbers.

Tips and Toes is also very noisy, everyone feels the need to be on their mobile phones for the duration of their appointment. I stopped going years ago due to this and much prefer the Nail Spa at the Ranches Golf Club for the quiet environment and quality of products and services.

Thank you for your replies...I have locked every door in the house but not sure if I can sleep peacefully for some time....the police wont take a complaint because she hasnt 'stolen', her visa is valid and she had her documents (if it was a case of 'abduction'...her valuables/passport/Emirates ID would not be missing)she left the house while my parents were sleeping in the morning....Hence, this is not a police case, but a case for immigration which can only be solved tomorrow morning. Yorky...in response to your comment....I have not said anything wrong about the nanny except that she has run away and have warned ppl against illegal shelter...I have not given any gory details or defamed her as...infact I have been open to say she hasnt taken anything. There are no sides here. It is an unemotional warning and this forum is not about judging, its about sharing information that may help or prevent harm to others. Your original post has gone, not sure if you or admin have deleted but I still stand by my original post that personal details should not be posted. If Admin don't allow it for friendly meet ups why should anyone else be allowed to post someone's name and passport number! I truely feel for you and wish you a speedy conclusion to your dilemma.

Expat Woman is not the place to be posting peoples names and passport numbers. If you haven't done so already go to the police and file a report. If you have sponsored her legally she will not have time left on her visa as it will be cancelled immediately and as her sponsor you are obliged by law to report her missing. If you have concerns over the security of your home I would suggest calling a lock smith this evening and getting all locks changed to give you some peace of mind. I'm sure you are shocked and upset by the actions of your nanny but you must follow the law to protect yourself and your family. Good luck edited by Yorky on 17/01/2015 Actually in my opinion this is exactly where the OP should post it. There are loads of people looking for good nannies/housekeepers. Surely this is why we all use tis forum- recommend the good and steer clear of the not so good. But we don't know the full details, not that I am doubting the OP but to post personal details in my opinion is not necessary. The correct way to deal with this is the police and immigration. EW do not allow members to post phone numbers or email addresses so why is it acceptable to post someone's name and passport number?

I noticed them in Spinneys yesterday and thought they were very reasonably priced at 100 dhs. I expected real trees to cost much more than that here. There were pine needles everywhere though, even in my bag of potatoes and I didn't buy a real tree!!

Try Room Service, some hotels offer chicken with the trimmings which might be a better option than eating turkey leftovers for weeks after Christmas! http://www.roomservice-uae.com/home.aspx?region=1 I also noticed Maison Mathis in Arabian Ranches were advertising turkey take out with the option to have stuffed turkey breast per person rather than the whole turkey.

I keep getting emails for 20% off the Entertainer book and app. I know the book is more than I paid last year, not sure about the app. Does anyone know if the prices have gone up in general (and I should get the 20% off deal) or is it better to wait until the New Year? All books and apps have increased in price but this year the app costs less than the equivelant book. I think it's something like 30 Dhs less for the apps. You don't get 20% discount on all products, the discount varies but the price is available to view on their website. If you purchase on line they are also giving away a free travel entertainer which you will not get in the stores so if you definitely know you will buy a book I would get it while the offer is available.

It's good to get different responses to such a question but it's difficult to give definite answers as it would all depend on circumstances at the time. If our income and rent remain the same we will stay, if income remains the same and we see a slight increase we will probably also stay, for anything else we would look at other options to see what works best for us.

Were you able to be there during her first clean? We got really lucky our first shot, our girl is serious business when she comes in. Like Stix says, it is a **** shoot, and if you are home, you may be able to suss out the potential. ETA: I guess I should have said "roll of the dice," I wasn't cursing! edited by Beebers on 25/11/2014 No I've never been able to be here whilst she's cleaned... Because we're in such small surroundings, I'd feel a bit awkward about just sitting there whilst she cleaned around me :-/ Is it that silly? Should I be that bothered? You are not there because you are at work or because you don't want to be in her space whilst cleaning? Depending on the circumstances there is more than one way to deal with this situation.
