If you need to find new tenants change the agent as soon as your old tenants move out. The first agent I used was terrible and didn't fully manage the property as they should have. I had numerous problems with them and thought about selling the property on more than one occasion. In the end one set of tenants moved out and I changed agents and started again. I specifically told them what service I was looking for, such as email communication or a telephone call for urgent matters plus regular checks on the property. They do have my family members contact numbers at home should they not get hold of me but when you pay an agent to manage the property that's what they should do, the first agent thought nothing of calling my sister to sort out problems! I too have great support from family and friends but it don't feel comfortable asking them to look after the property on a full time basis. One thing to consider if you decide not to use an agent is what you would do if the tenants fall behind on payments? Would you feel okay asking family to chase this up or start legal proceedings against them on your behalf? I've also had 'lovely' tenants but everyones financial circumstances can change and I have had to serve eviction notices to two sets of tenants in the past, all of which was handled by the agent. I did stress about renting out my house at first but now I get regular communication from the agent I just let them get on with it. Good luck :)

let's say you leave the house around 7:30am, are we talking about 15 minutes of waiting in a queue just t get out? or is it closer to 5 minutes? There are a few things to consider, if you leave the house at 7.30am, which part of AR are you located in? Some communities are close to the exits and some will take a five minute drive through the ranches just to get there. Also which exit do you want to get to or where is your final destination, as I mentioned before I take the closest exit to where I live which is longer in distance to my final destination but less time because I do not have to queue.

It really does depend on what time you leave and if the schools are open but as Sue62 said that might change once the other exit is closed. I find it quicker to exit onto Emirates Road by the school and turn off by Global Village and head to work on the By-pass road (Jebel Ali bound), which is longer in distance but I have no patience for sitting in traffic!

@ nessy, these two restaurants share one buffet so not really a big difference which one to pick, and they both also have nice sitting areas outside. Seafood stations are in Al Muna and in The Wharf they have a lot of pork, so choose whatever you wanna be closer to :) DC, Yorky - yes to both, you can use vouchers for brunch and also pay extra for the alcohol package. Actually the cool thing about this place is that you only pay 60 dhs extra for alcohol package, cheapest add-on I saw so far which makes it a good deal if you have vouchers (we ended up paying 485 dhs for two alcohol packages whereas standard price of one is dhs 425. You can get prosecco, wine, beer and plenty of nice cocktails). HTH! Thanks for the clarification, we were there on Friday but didnt take our vouchers as I never imagined they would accept them for Friday brunch. Looks like we will need to go again :)

Hi Simpleasabc - it's in the Family one, the voucher is for Al Muna but you can also book the table in The Wharf which is where the kids' area is (one brunch, two restaurants). Can you use the entertainer vouchers for the alcohol package?

We have stayed at both and prefer the Hilton Resort and Spa. The rooms are lovely and the resort has plenty of swimming pools and a large private beach. There are also several restaurants and bars. We went a few weeks ago and loved it.

I haven't been for a while but Peacock at The Sheraton on JBR used to serve good Chinese food and I think there are vouchers in the fine dining book too.

Have you tried Howdra? They charge 35 dhs per hour, I think it is a minimum of 4 hours. I did use a different company and I was very happy but they had to shut down and are in the process of opening up again under a new business name in a different emirate. I did say I would stick with them as the transaction period was first estimated at 4 weeks but 4 months later they have still not got their license which is why I tried Howdra. The lady which I have is very well trained, only needed to show her where the cleaning materials were and she got to it, started upstairs and worked down from there. Her English is okay so we can communicate, although most of the time I am not at home when she cleans so I don't need to interact with her and the company prefer you to communicate any requests or issues through them not the maid.

When did you originally say that, was it after he won the race to Dubai at Emirates Golf Club? I was there and definately had a tear in my eye when he won, especially when his parents joined him for the presentation. Great golfer and well deserved, although I do love to see Lee Westwood play well too.

mmm.....maybe adding a roof and a/c? That would cost a fortune! Seriously doubt it. I went to see Pink in the middle of summer, just wear shorts and a t-shirt and expect to end up dripping. I remember that night, I spent ages getting ready and within 30 minutes of arriving at the concert I looked like I had just stepped straight out of the shower! Great concert though

Biographies, autobiographies. As far as novels go, I prefer the ones based in the middle east. Have you read Princess and Daughters of Arabia, I loved both of those. Would love to read them. Yes, read Daughters of Arabia too. Also went on to read more of Jean Sasson's books about the ME, but Princess was the one I enjoyed the most. edited by amelia on 20/02/2012 I have some more of Jean Sasson's books which I haven't read yet. I only usually read when we go away on holiday or for the weekend but loved the books so much I stocked up on my last visit to the book shop.

It will really depend on the company that your husband works for now. If it is as before then no doubt the PRO will take care of everything so no need for you to worry too much about the process. if you think you need to do it yourself then no need to worry there are lots of places where you can get this done. (better to post your location so someone can advise the nearest place). regarding who should pay then I would say that is a matter between your husband and his company, depending on the terms and conditions of his contract.

I bought oine from Pottery Barn MCC a few weeks ago which is really nice and locks. They had a few different sizes and colours available. I also noticed some in Debanhams in MOE a few weeks ago.

I have been following this closely for the past few weeks as we have a holiday booked in April. I would say it is safe to travel as the trouble has been confined to Male and some other islands inhabited by locals. The holiday resorts have been unaffected so far. I would definately give the day triips to Male a miss (if the resorts still offer them). The Trip Advisor forum offer reliable up to date information if you still have concerns. I have friends who returned from the Maldives only a few days ago and they had no problems at all and did not feel unsafe.

Jumeirah Village is close to DIP but not sure about the access in and out but I would say no more than 15 - 20 minutes drive. Victory Heights would also be another viable location. If you search on here for Layan community you will find some threads about the community. Some of the communities mentioned below are more established than others so it will depend on your budget and what type of accommodation/facilities you are looking for.

There are lots of communities within 30 minutes drive so it will depend on your budget and if you want an apartment or villa. Some places to consider would be Green Community, Motor City, Arabian Ranches, The Meadows, The Springs and The Greens.

oh shoot!!! Can anyone tell me exactly what documents I need and the process to get this ID, also do you need to take your original passport as I am out of the country so I am hoping my husband can do mine and his with just my passport copy...... Yes you do need your original passport and for the first application you need to have your finger prints taken.

Captain Jacks boat trip from the Marina is lovely. If you are looking for somewhere for a meal then I am sure the children would like Go West at JBH (vouchers in the entertainer too). Also a trip to Dubai Mall to see the fountains.
