The Terrace at Media Rotana has a great view of the fireworks at Burj Al Arab and the Burj Khalifa (as long as we don't get the fog!) You might have to book a meal at one of the restaurants to get access though. I have done Pregos for the past two years and would recommend ethat restaurant.

We didn't do brunch purely because we prefer a sit down meal served to our table on Christmas day so we booked the Ivy this year. Service, food and ambiance was excellent! Although we had a set menu we had a choice of 3 or 4 dishes per course, and each dish we had was lovely. if I had any complaint it would be they didn't have traditional Christmas pudding on the desert menu but believe me the white chocolate bomb was no disappointment! It was 450 dhs per person excluding drinks but given the service and quality of the food I would say very much worth every dirham.

We got one the other week from Lakeland and you can put the thermometer in the meat and the temperature gauge is wireless so you can walk around with it in your pocket! not sure if it works for a full turkey but the OH half used it to cook some steak the other night and set it to medium and it was cooked perfect! <em>edited by Yorky on 23/12/2011</em>

It's racing season at Meydan so you could go to a race night, they also have some race meetings on a Friday afternoon. You could also go and watch a Polo match at The Polo Club AR. <em>edited by Yorky on 22/12/2011</em>

I was just looking on Room Service and the Raddison Blu are doing a honey glazed chicken with all the trimmings for 195 dhs, it serves 2 to 4 people. I don't see raddison Blu on the RSD website? If you go to the home page there is a section near the top of the page that says 'Latest' and several messages flash across the screen. One of them gives the option to download the festive directory, that is where I found it.

We have used them for trips to Oman, which is a short flight and never had any problems. For such a short journey I can't see the point in paying double (or more) to travel with one of the other airlines.

We are going to The Ivy. They are serving a three course traditional menu, it's 450 Dhs per person (food only). As you say most places are offering buffets and we didn't want that for Christmas day. The Dhow and Anchor are also serving a traditional dinner. <em>edited by Yorky on 07/12/2011</em>

I lived in the Greens for 4 years and loved it. The Views 1 and 2 (across from the mosque) are bigger than some of the other older buildings but because they are older you may find some of them looking a bit worn compared to some of the newer buildings. There are also metro stations at the Golf Club and Tecom, which are both in walking distance during the winter months. The shops and restaurants are handy too, especially if you don't drive.

Does he intend to go and play on his own or have lessons? I started lessons a few months ago and didn't rush into buying any clubs because I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it enough to buy my own clubs. If you have lessons you can use the clubs from the instructor or you can borrow them for the driving range/par three courses. I think you will need to pay to hire them for the 18 hole courses though.

WE are in the exact same situation. Our landlord is being an ass too and even though we told him we would appeal to rera as he cannot increase, we are seriously thinking of getting another place as I stopped enjoying being in this house ever since he tried to kick us out. I hate living like this, not knowing what the next year it going to bring and with a small child it is really not cool to keep on moving every year. I was so excited about this house and was looking forward to decorate it for christmas and all and now I feel like ****. We are in The Villa and had a look at Layan as we liked the idea of renting from Dubai Properties and not having to deal with greedy landlords anymore. Unfortunately I did not like them at all so I am back to where we started. We need a minimum of 3 bed plus maid and a big garden is a must... Do the Alma and Palmera have big gardens? Our budget is 150 K too. We have a decent sized garden in Alma and we are walking distance to the shopping center and the golf club.

Ds and I orderd DH a picture from Peas in a Pod, they were at Jess nightmarket and Arte, JPS fair and others. Basically she has lots of designs and sizes but we chose one, a picture frame, square with 9 circles, 3 x 3 with each circle containg a small portion of map in dubai thats significant to DH. Like Montgomerie, his office, our first home here. You chose what you want. Its fab. Hey that sounds good, do u know if they have a website tried to google but no luck? Sounds interesting, I would also be interested if there is a website.

Is there any particular reason why you don't like Al Reem or Palmera? We have friends in Palmera and they don't have any complaints. I am just thinking these are probably the only communities in AR within your budget and as you mentioned you do like AR. Some of the other areas in Dubailand within your budget may not have all the facilities as AR, so I guess it will depend how important this is?

I was going to suggest Alma! We love it here. When are you looking to move? Why don't you try and get another one in Alma. We stayed at Lily Beach and absolutely loved it, one of the best holidays we have ever had, which is why we have booked to go again in April. It is an all inclusive island, which I know doesn't suit everyone but it really is high quality with premium food and beverage. There are some good reviews on Trip Advisor. The rates on the Lily Beach website are high compared to what you can get booking through Agoda.com

Unfortunately if you want a direct flight you will have to pay more. I was hoping that when Etihad started flying direct from Abu Dhabi the prices would be more reasonable but they work out more expensive than Emirates ( or the ones I looked at did). We went to the Maldives in August, I can't remember how much the flights were (I booked them in January) and we had such a good holiday that we have decided to go back again in April. I remember looking at the prices in September and it was 2750 Dhs per person direct with Emirates and I thought that was good. Unfortunately I didn't book them and when I booked the holiday a few weeks ago the cheapest I could get was approx. 3400 Dhs each.

Spoke with our guys today and they are going to be allowed to continue working on the Ranches with Emaar agreement. Felt sorry for the boss though who came round himself to give us the news, as a numberr of his customers have already left and it has hit his business hard. I have just received a response from Emaar and they are saying they are sticking to their orignal decision to ban them? Have you got anything in writing from Emaar or the gardening company?
