We had platinum wedding rings and it was very difficult finding them in the stores as they don't like to keep many in stock. Just find the style / design that you like in any metal and then have them make it however you want. I designed my own wedding band and can highly recommend someone if you need some help.

Hi, I recently paid the past few years of my NI contributions and it was very simple. To begin with I emailed them looking for information on how much I needed to pay and how to do this but I received an email back advising that they could not disclose this information via email so I gave them a call. They were very helpful and explained they could not give this information out over the telephone as you need to complete the NI38 form for them to review first. You can request them to post you a copy or as I did just download a copy from their website. Once you have complete the form post it back to them and they will reply via post with a summary of outstanding contributions. You are under no obligation to make the payments and they will advise the deadlines for paying each outstanding year. It took several weeks from sending the form back to them to receiving the letter back but I don't always check my PO Box every week. There were also several different methods of payment. HTH

The Ivy and Table 9 are both excellent choices for Christmas dinner. I think both are serving from lunchtime so you might still get a table if you can be flexible with the time.

LG and JVC do the combos. If they have stand alone stores, that would be your best bet. I've never seen them in any electrical stores. There are some on souq - maybe see if they are stores that are also doing the online selling. Good luck in your search. Thanks, it was LG that I found online but didnt think to try the stand alone store.

In all honesty Yorky, they're terrible things. If one part breaks down, then entire unit is screwed. Always better to have the seperate components. Never seen a tv with a built in DVD player. The tv/VHS players were dreadful. I understand what you are saying but to be honest it isnt going to be used that much and I was thinking more about the space. You can buy them, I have seen them online just not sure if you can get them in the stores here.

Does anyone know of any stores here that sell TV's with a built in DVD player? So far I have tried Sharaf DG and C4 but they do not stock them. Thanks :)

I was going to suggest transfering the money at one of the exchange places in the mall but they will also charge between 40 - 60 Dhs so might not be worth it. If you have a UK bank account it would be easier to transfer money from that account or write a cheque but I asusme you don't as you would have done this before transfering money from here. Hopefully someone else can suggest a cheaper way to transfer the money.

Not sure what food and budget you have in mind but the all inclusive nights at The Terrace (Le Meridien) are usually very good. I would imagine they have it all decorated up for Christmas too. You could also try latitude at JBH or Spectrum on One at The Fairmont. There are also the theme nights at the Rotana hotels.

The Montgomerie (Nineteen restaurant) do a Saturday roast brunch. I haven't been, it was fully booked when we wanted to go a few weeks ago. I think starters and deserts are buffet and the main roast dinner is served to your table which a choice of meats etc. The Ranches restaurant have a late breakfast brunch on a Friday and Saturday (10am - 2pm). They have a breakfast buffet with egg station, plus a roast dinner buffet. I think this is 99 dhs per person. I think most restaurants offer roast dinners on a Saturday. The Dhow and Anchor did but not sure if they are open at the moment. Also The Ivy do a Saturday roast.

Cannot advise on Traiteur, but we did have Christmas lunch at Table 9 last year and it was excellent. If you want to see the menu before you book you can email them and they will send you a copy. The menu this year is very similar to last year so I have no doubts it will be excellent. We really could not fault anything last year, excellent food and service. We also did the wine paring with the Christmas menu and the wine selections were very good. I believe they start serving from 3pm but not sure if they still have availability.

I would be more concerned about what you will do with it once you are in the UK. Last summer I found it very difficult dealing with cash in the UK. I changed money at the airport into GBP, probably £2000 in a mixture of notes £10, £20 and £50. Twice I tried to spend the £50 notes and it was a nightmare, they were checked, doubled checked and I was asked if I prefered to pay by card. Eventually they took them but it wasn't a great experience when you are stood in a shop and made to feel like everyone is questioning you. One of these experiences was in a large well known store, it wasn't like I was at the local corner shop and the second time it was in a hotel. I decided to pay the cash into my UK account to avoid having problems for the rest of the trip and they accepted it no questions asked but when I mentioned this to a friend who works at a bank she said they should have asked for proof of where it came from because I was paying in so many £20 and £50 notes. Many places in the UK do not like dealing with cash so be prepared to have some proof of where it has come from.

Thanks for the updates, this answers most of my questions :) Did anyone ask how it will work when you are dining with a group of friends? For example last Friday we had brunch with a group of friends and we all took along one voucher per couple. Will the restaurants still accept the maximum 4 vouchers, all from different smart phones?

I've downloaded the app so I can get the November offers (already a registered member this year) but not sure if I will buy the books next year or buy online as an app? I think they have a stall now in MCC so I might go along and ask some questions on how it will work. I like the idea of having them available on my phone but not sure how that will work when I have visitors over and they need to use vouchers, or if you have kids and you give them vouchers?

It was really windy and dark on the way into work this morning. Also big forks of lightning which lit up all the sky, then came the heavy rain. It only lasted a couple of hours though, it's very calm again now. Wonder if there is more to come?

I bought some new suitcases recently from C4 in MOE. They had 3 different sizes and I think the biggest was 300 or 400 Dhs. Anything else that I found in the other stores were almost 1000 Dhs each which I didnt want to pay. Just remembered the brand we purchased were Delsey (4 wheeled trolley cases). We have used this brand before and the old cases lasted for 4 or 5 years (using them for 2 or 3 trips per year) edited by Yorky on 19/11/2013

Another happy customer of Abra :) just recently tried the spray tan for the first time and love the results. I am naturally pale and didn't want anything too dark and as soon as I explained this to Abra she totally put me at ease and assured me the tan would be very natural looking. I've had some wonderful comments off friends today so I am very happy with the results. :)

I've used Churchills in the past and was very happy with the service. They come and clean the items at your home but do have a minimum charge so you might want to check first and have other items cleaned at the same time. I'm sure if you do a search you will find the contact details.

I think you will need to go to one of the shopping malls to get this done. Minutes at Ibn Battuta cut keys and the one in MOE will probably do them also.

ACE hardware at Festival City hire out equipment, not sure if they do power washers but maybe worth a try. We use ours to clean down the patio and outdoor furniture but they are very powerful and the only time we used it on the outside walls a small area of plaster came off so I wouldn't recommend for that use.

Finally after four years of being here we have find a great Indian takeaway. The Hungry Tiger in Al Barsha is absolutely by far the best, great prices and great food, the only drawback mind is the expanding waistline it's going to cause. How does it compare to say 'Rupee Room' or 'Curry Box' ? To be honest I am still mourning the loss of the Copper Chimney. If I had a takeaway downfall this place held all the strings..........

Thanks Elmpark for the reply. I just checked online and the basic alcohol package is 295 Dhs so you are right, much cheaper than Mina A Salam. What drinks do you get for this package, is it the usual beer, wine, spirits and some cocktails? I don't mind a smaller choice of food, rather have the quality. Do they serve a mix of different foods or is it themed on any particular cuisine? Also now that it is cooler I would consider sitting outside, should I ask to sit in any particular area if we don't want to be right next to the kids area! Thanks :)

I would imagine the restaurants serving breakfast on JBR will be open early but I haven't been there for a while so not sure if you will get a sea view sat outside with all the construction going on? I think Beachcombers at JBH serve breakfast and that's right on the beach but I would imagine not a cheap option (you may be able to use entertainer vouchers?) If they just want a nice view sat outside you could consider Broadwalk overlooking the Creek, or The Sports Cafe at Jebel Ali overlooking the Marina. Also most golf clubs have nice outdoor terraces and serve breakfast at reasonable prices.
