The beauty industry took another step towards inclusivity and diversity, as until now, Muslim women wearing the Hijab had not been featured in mainstream haircare campaigns. L’Oréal Paris’ new UK haircare advert, however, stars hijab-wearing beauty blogger and influencer, Amena Khan.

Joining Cheryl Tweedy, Mcfly’s Dougie Poynter and models Neelam Gill and Felicity Hayward, Amena Khan described the new L’Oréal Paris campaign as “game changing” on her Instagram. She is both excited and proud to be playing a part in the new L’Oreal Paris Elvive World of Care Campaign, formulated for a range of demanding hair types.

During the haircare advert, Amena highlights that “whether or not your hair is on display it doesn’t affect how much you care about it” she continues “hair is a women’s beauty. Make sure that you look after it.”

Amena Khan believes that L’Oréal Paris is valuing her voice in the new campaign, as her hair is covered in an advert which would usually focus on just the look of shiny hair. Just because women don’t show their hair, it does not mean that it doesn’t need looking after! Amena Khan revealed to her followers “when I take off my scarf, I want my hair to be more radiant – don’t we all?”

Moving away from the clichés of beauty advertising, L’Oréal is rebranding for a new generation and the wider audience it appeals to. By casting a woman in a hijab, L’Oréal promotes inclusivity and that ALL women should be heard, just as all hair types, shown or not, should be catered to.

We agree with Amena, we all want radiant hair and more campaigns just like this one!
