I have not lived there but I really like Adelaide, it is like a big country town compared to Melbourne a lot slower pace ,where Melbourne is busy ,busy.....

It is definitely NOT the most boring place in Australia - it is a beautiful, wonderful city and there is plenty to do (in fact the Fringe Festival just finished and the Clipsal 500 has just started!) I am from Adelaide originally, but moved over to Melbourne to complete a masters degree and work. Having actually lived in both cities I can say there is a completely different vibe to them. I found Melbourne to be much more fast-paced, definitely a better night-life and restaurant scene, but crappy weather. Personally I found the driving to be much, much better than Adelaide (maybe due to the larger population and therefore higher number of cars on the road?). I think it really depends on the kind of lifestyle you are used to and what you're after. Adelaide is beautiful, has fantastic weather and better beaches, growing up there was (in my opinion) very safe and much safer than Melbourne, and is very ideal for a young family. If you're a young couple, or have teenage/university aged kids, I suggest Melbourne. Housing costs are much lower in Adelaide, whereas Melbourne is quite expensive. Ditto for schooling - relatively speaking, again it depends on the type of school and where it is etc. It's not fair to say one is better than the other, though. I had two very different experiences in two very different cities!

I'm from Melbourne-Adelaide is nice but dull in comparison! Depends what you want-the weather is more changeable in Melbourne-4 seasons in a week-but that isn't always a bad thing. Schools are excellent in both states but the restaurants and entertainment in Melboune are fantastic. If you are considering flights 'home' to somewhere else Melbourne will have more direct flights so that might be a small consideration.

I'm from Adelaide, haven't lived there for about 10 years but moving back in a couple of months. I have visited Melbourne dozens of times but not actually lived there so can't really give you any advice on it, apart from that it does have a great vibe, restaurants are some of the best in Australia. On the downside, as the other posters have mentioned the weather is bad and I have found driving there to be crazy, takes so long to get anywhere. Adelaide is a lot quieter but doesn't mean it's boring, it's really what you make of it. It's really easy to get anywhere, hills, beach all within half an hour driving and it has some of the best wine regions very close by, Barossa, McLaren Vale, Clare all an hours drive from the city. There is the Central Market in the centre of town which is the best food place IMHO in the whole of Australia. It also has great pubs and some really good restaurants. My parents live in the Adelaide Hills and it takes them 12 minutes to get down the freeway which is then about 10 minute drive from the city, so very close and absolutely gorgeous in the Adelaide Hills. Adelaide has some great art/entertainment/sporting events each year, Adelaide Fringe, WOMAdelaide, there are more but like I said it has been some time since I've lived there. If you want anymore advice on any other aspects of SA, I'm happy to help. Good luck with your decision and move!

I can't remember what it's called CW (so thats not a lot of help I know) but years ago we conscidered moving to Adelaide and they put out a relocation package thingy which had everything you needed to know...areas, schools etc etc. we got it off the interwebby so it must be there somewhere. They are 2 VERY different cities, and personally I would choose melbourne...it's very cosmopolitan, multi cultural etc but the weather is rubbish. Havent actually been to adelaide though the weather seems better. Apparently is very quiet town.

Most boring place in Australia. Fact. Seriously, weather's nicer than Melbourne, but it is beyond dullsville. Melbourne is fanTAStic though. Weather might be sh!te there, but there's gorgeous restaurants, cafes, fab jazz scene, loads of art galleries, TRAMS ... Pick Melbourne. :D

DH is now also considering settling down in Adelaide. Can you tell me something more about it? Is it worth settling in Adelaide or should we stick to Melbourne? Compare and Contrast it with Melbourne? Is it a better place? I did google but that doesn't help much. What's the difference between Adelaide and Adelaide Hills? Are they separate areas? Too many questions, I know.. But this is just the beginning.. xx THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!
