Hi Raa, Yours is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question. ? City? Country? Beach? Tropical? Mediterranean? Australia has it all. Nice areas, good schools and a great lifestyle can be had all over the country. Where are you from? Many UK or European or South African expats choose Western Australia as it's so much closer to 'home'. Perth, Fremantle and further south are beautiful. I live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and think it's one of the most beautiful beachside places in the world...but cost of living here is very high and jobs are few and far between. edited by Green-ish on 09/11/2014

My colleague is from Melbourne and moved to Dubai as living there was too expensive She advised the weather in Melbourne is pretty good all year round, she said Balwyn and Mount Waverly are nice areas. Will you buy a house or rent?. She advised that house prices are very expensive at present and her Sister has just bought a 3 bed house 50 minutes outside the city and it cost her a whopping over 300,000GBP however renting is cheaper She has some contacts in Melbourne that may be able to help you if needs be

What a difficult question to answer. Do you realize how big Aust is ? Its around 12 hr driving between each capital city. In Queensland its a min 1 hr trip between small country towns. Everyone will have a different view. Weather is a main factor in deciding as well as whether you want city or country living. Get a job 1st, then see where that leads you.

Hi We are thinking of moving to Australia, I have a year old daughter and husband who's an electrical engineer and I myself am a qualified pharmacist from uk. Ideally I want some where they have good schools, nice community, [b'>not too overpriced[/b'> for rent or activities and some where we can both work. I don't know where to start looking for the best place area to live! Does any one know where I can start to look? Or they can recommend a city. Would appreciate your help! Thanks You can rule out Sydney, it's mind boggling expensive. I've got a few friends who have well paid jobs but left Sydney as the cost of living is so high. One moved to Adelaide and loves it, housing is much more reasonable. I find the cost of living in Australia has gone up extraordinarily since I lived there and it is a very expensive place to live now. Although wages seem high they are negated by the cost of living. Melbourne is the same, really expensive, I go every 2 years and cannot get over how much things cost. In fact I am off there again in a few days time but am happy to see that the exchange rate is slightly better this time around. OP - Australia is a great place to live, especially to raise a family but the cost of living in cities is high. There are some beautiful places to live outside of the cities but it would obviously depend on the job market. I would do some research on the job market and then narrow your choice down to one state, it is such a huge place that it is difficult to be specific about areas to live. Also think about what type of climate you would like to live in as it varies quite a bit - Queensland - very hot and sunny, Victoria -proper cold winters , NSW more of a temperate climate etc etc edited by Genie on 05/11/2014

W[b'>here you get a job and you would have to start at the bottom too with lower salary than the average Australian as you dont have the 'australian experience' on your resume.[/b'> Most jobs are in the big cities and all cities are expensive so you will just have to make the best of it. Melbourne,Brisbane,Perth,Sydney,Adelaide are options. edited by Appletiser on 05/11/2014 Is that really the case now? When I lived and worked in Australia ( Sydney) I was actually paid more than most of my Australian colleagues as I had additional qualifications and experience ( that I had been specifically recruited for). I can't imagine that they would do that in most professions, as surely it is a form of discrimination. edited by Genie on 05/11/2014
