Habibi, I would advise going to the docs as well for a checkup. Just to say that you haven't recently put on your AC have you?. I sometimes get achy knees and joints when I put it on, and am sat, or have slept in a draught.

This is a great thread. My older sister had this great little portable record player that could be packed away like a little suitcase. I thought it was the best thing ever. When I was a bit older I also used to tape my fav songs from the radio and I still have some of those cassettes! [b'>My sister had one of these record players. It was light grey and I was envious as I wanted one as well but was too young[/b'> I loved the Vesta curries and I felt very adventurous eating them. My parents would not touch them and only ate meat and 2 veg (one always potatoes) for their dinner. [b'>Me too, I was so cultured with my Vesta curries LOL. My parents only ate bland English food as well.[/b'> We also used to spend hours out on the street with all the kids playing together - skipping, skating and playing with two small rubber balls (you'd have to go through a whole routine, while singing, of bouncing them against the wall, throwing them up in the air etc). No such thing as play dates. [b'>I used to play double balls as well, could do tricks with those balls, through legs, over and underarm on the walls.[/b'> edited by A Rancher on 22/04/2012 Does anyone remember those clacker things, two hard balls on a string that used to bruise your hands as you swung them together?. Oh and those ball on the end of a loop that you used to jump over. I remember Twinkle and Jackie comics, and looked forward to the little freebies inside them.

With both mine, I stopped both daytime and night time nappies together. I bought a plastic sheet and put this under the main sheet. I woke them up when I went to bed and took them to the toilet. Only a couple of accidents, a few nights laying in wee generally does the trick ;) After the first week both were completely dry. Start as you mean to go on (if you think she's ready), tell her she's a big girl now, and won't be wearing nappies anymore, resist putting her back in nappies once you have made the decision.

Waitrose used to have all the colours but like Muurtje said I have only seen Goldfish orange lately in MM. Did you try Waitrose in Dubai Marina, or speak to customer service and ask them if they will be getting some soon.

This post made me very nostalgic and gave me goose bumps No X Boxes or playstations and come rain or shine we were kicked out of the house during all holidays, weekends and school nights and only came back if we were hungry or had to be home. No computers, no mobile phones. Gosh the world was a better place back then No fast food except from the chippy on a Friday! We didnt even have a freezer until chest freezers in the garage became trendy. Until then it was a tiny freezer in the fridge that held ice pops and fish fingers haha The good old days :-) True, I was out and about every day, no phone, mother didn't know where I was until I returned home around 9pm. I remember our party line, it was constantly in use by the other party :) Played out on the streets every day after school and weekends in all weathers with all the other kids who were kicked out of their homes so their mothers could have peace and quiet. We had a TV that operated with 50ps and a larder before our fridge (with the ice pops and fish fingers in the wee freezer bit). Life was definitely much slower paced than it is today.

Hi, We took our own measurements to the shop and then we picked up and dropped off the guy working in the shop, and he did a good job hanging them. DH gave him some money for his time. This was in our old place, but I was very happy with the curtains. We also did the same with the (shop) guy who put up all our lights that we bought from DM. <em>edited by Alismum on 18/04/2012</em>

Spongemonkey and HesterPB are you saying having a VPN doesn't work with DU? I am looking at how to watch Aussie TV and use Skype when we move to Dubai. NO I am not saying that. Once you have a VPN on your machine, you can use ti with either Du or Etisalat to watch TV from the UK. What I am saying is that Du has blocked access to certain VPN sites so that you cannot even get on the site to purchase the VPN. I have a continuous renewal on mine so it is not a problem. Etisalat does not block this particular site. There are many VPN sites out there so suggest you google Best VPNs or similar and check a few out. Skype works, chat within FB etc all work without a VPN. anyway if Aussie TV works the same as eg UK tv (that you have to be 'in the country' to watch it on line) you would need an Aussie VPN to watch it, presumably? I did discover when I started that not all VPNs are equal.... any old VPN can get you round local limitations (like downloading skype) you need a country specific one for things like BBC iPlayer. I found a freebie one that appears to work with the iplayer and UK telly. Can send you the link if you like Jamhind.

I don't understand this obsession with the rain. What do you expect from living in a desert? Hi MF ;) the thing is, it used to rain MUCH more here, more often and for a lot longer. And just look at the mountains etc with parts carved out of them where water used to gush. The empty wadis. :( Now it hardly dribbles. *sob* Just ONE solid downpour. FOR ONE DAY!!!! :/: Yes BM, the rain of the olden days...boooo hooo.... I miss it too. We even had hail stones regularly....every winter the wadis would flow....now...look what has happened. I remember a few years back there were a few downpours with water seeping through most of Springs villas due to the rain, and we had to block the gaps under the front door with newspapers and old carpets, and the streets from Ibn Battuta were flooded. People were stranded for ages.

Reynee, I bought some work books from Borders bookshop for FS2 and Grade 1, for maths and English, they cost about 10-15AED (they have loads of different ones) and I work through them with my son on occasions. He has come on in leaps and bounds since I started helping him a bit and can now read and write a little. At the beginning of the school year he knew nothing as I didn't put him in school til he was 5. I spoke to the teacher and she told me the areas I should work on with him. Perhaps you can help your daughter in this way if you have time. <em>edited by Alismum on 24/03/2012</em>

'Manners' are very important in certain cultures, as are the rules of their use. But in many countries it really is just taught that you do what you want to do, meaning you were that nice employer who bought more for her. DHs family are no please/thank you people. , This is the same with some member of my DHs family (not all of them). When they come here they go back laden with loads of goodies, I buy a huge amount of presents for them and they never even open them it's just a small thanks. Me I am grateful for every small gift and find myself saying thank you numerous times, I think it stems from the fact that my mother made me write thank you letters to everyone after receiving presents for Xmas/birthdays etc. Irooni, you did your best and have been over generous imo. Gold bars!!![img'>http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/stock/smiley-sign0046.gif[/img'> Perhaps if you pass her in the street then ask how she is, but for the time being keep your gold and move on. <em>edited by Alismum on 24/03/2012</em>

Well I own 2 dogs and I have also had neighbours complain about one of our dogs peeing on their small patch of grass outside their villa, she thought they were pooing (our dogs always poo in our garden), she screamed at my husband hysterically, she did stop when she realised it was only a pee and not a poo! We went over the next day with a box of chocolates and apologized.. can you imagine how sheepish she looked?? She started apologizing profusely for shouting at my husband! AND I always find poop dropped right outside my front door every single morning, so if im not careful I may just have a nice surprise when walking out.. do I complain? No it's just not worth it and I doubt your dog did his business right outside their front porch!!! lol:\: piece of advice? Ignore! ;) Chocs, You can't live in fear like this. Today is Iranian new year and you said your neighbours are Iranian. Go buy a box of chocolates or a bunch of flowers and leave them on the neighbours doorstep with a note wishing them Happy New Year and asking if you can resolve the issue peacefully. This is what I would do. ETA quoted JJMagrudys post above because this is what she did :) <em>edited by Alismum on 20/03/2012</em>

Hi, Did you check out English as a foreign language (kids and adults) videos online. (FREE) This is just one of many I found. Real English ESL Video & Lessons Beginner Level http://www.real-english.com/reo/index.html Also if you have time, perhaps you can help her. I taught my Nepali maid to speak English, she knew a few words when she started but by one year she was speaking very well. My kids also helped by talking to her a lot. This was a few years ago mind you as I don't have a maid now, but she was a lovely girl. <em>edited by Alismum on 25/02/2012</em>

Beware, if the stitching is in nylon. Because if you go darker then you might find that you still have the original peach coloured stitching. This is true, I have a navy shirt with white stitching. :) Best not to go too dark if you have white/pale stitching on your dress.

LOL this reminds me of the recent article about maids who don't want to fly budget airlines. [b'>Pampered Dubai maids sniff at flying budget[/b'> [i'>February 01, 2012 A maid’s employment contract in the UAE states that it is the liability of the employer to fly the maid into the country and after two years of employment, provide a return ticket to her home country. While many residents, of their own accord, go beyond the contract and provide maids with additional incentives such as a food and clothing allowance and regular extras like tips etc., a new demand that is adding to the residents’ burden is the refusal of some maids to fly budget airlines like Air Arabia and Flydubai.[/i'> Full article here http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/pampered-dubai-maids-sniff-at-flying-budget-2012-02-01-1.440738
