Shame, we chucked out the last paddling pool when we got the big one. You can pick them up at geant, C4 very cheap and cheerful.

Opposite here! Can never wait to get 'home' to dxb, have my family, home, friends and pets around me. Love it! (sorry, not a lot of help am I? Are you relatively new to living here? that could create the feeling of wanting to be home home. OR, if you've been away from home home for ages, maybe it's just your time to think about going home?)

wonder if he should see a lawyer? I mean, I don't obviously know nationalities involved or the law here, but if it's a UK divorce then maybe some similar thing exsists for brits as it does on my side of the world. Specially with 50/50 custody.

I have'nt been so can't say definitively, but have mates there and it's dry, dusty, boring. they seem to have a more laid back expatriate thing going, so more like dxb years ago...could be a plus? The kids (and again I can't remember what school they're going to, but) seem to be getting VERY cool opportunities to do things unheard of either at home or here. It's very flat too.

Not actually done the Capt Jack cruise, but isnt it a dhow? Your lads on the abra's will just moter you up and down the creek, so it's not a cruise as such, just a nice way to veiw the creek.

an abra is the wee flat deck boats the ply across the creek. You can take a public one backwards and forwards across for 1dh. You can also hire one for yourself to do a trip up the creek and back...just wander the creek, (down near where the dhows are all parked up for their cruises is where we always find one) you'll find one, have a haggle and enjoy the cruise. Is lovely. Perhaps go late afternoon though, as is a bit hot, or wait until after Eid, so you can at least have water. hth

4am is taxi shift change too, so they're all heading back to Sharjah. And then you have fast breaking and prayertime around then (and I'd be chronically mad at my hubby if he rolled in at 8am still plastered, but I'm just saying about the taxi thing, it can be not all that far wrong. And then, if he's drunk as a skunk, there comes a point where it might not be that sensible to even cab it...they have the right to drop you off straight to the police if they feel like it)

Medcare...very very quick to get to, is by safa park, and for middle of the night trips to A&E, all good. How come I have called Rosary clinic and they have said they don't open til 9 if they are open 24 hours? Never understood that. The Meadows clinic is pretty good for standard GP/dentist appointments too if you havent yet got yourself a GP.

The flight to Oman is ok, but we're driving it...t'is only 4 hours I think? Depending on time, traffic and wee stops ;) Oh, you're not crossing the road border through Eid are you? We drove once and it took nearly six hours. I recommend to fly if at all possible. that sounds right, himself chronically under estimates the time it takes to do everything...so if he says 4 hours, you can bet it's more like 6. He was doing a longhaul drive with lil miss in NZ last month, and she needed a wee. He said, oh theres a loo 10 minutes up the road....and she was like is that an actual 10 minutes Daddy? Or a Daddy 10 mins? They stopped on the side of the road :)

You can do a supervised play and see how it goes. All depends if bunny has had experience communing with other animals? You'll need to let the rabbit set the tone. Just be aware they are the devil to catch once they're out, specially if they are normally free roaming and not handled much :) Oh, and best to do they play some time before or after your dog has been fed...bunny will smell meat etc, and while they can get on with carnivores happily, they are less liekly to be freindly with a meaty reminder that they are normally the food.

What about one of the furnished apartments in Tecom? they do weekly/monthly, he'd be able to self cater. Don't know if it would work out more reasonable than the likes of Ibis etc. The only name I can remember for some reason is Crystal living, but he could go for a quick drive round, most of them have banners out, some with the monthly rates on.

My first thoughts when I saw the OP, was of course, young girl, bit of a struggle...what harm in putting her up for a bit temporarily while she got back on her feet. Sort of thing wouldnt hesitate doing for a friend in an instant. But, she is not my friend, nor anyone known to me (and hubby would have kittens) and how temporary is temporary? Then I started to think, well shouldnt her friends help out? Been times in our lives as youngsters we've had someone living in our lounge while they sort themselves, you just muck in and get on with it. It is after all temporary. Now theres a kid and a hubby in the mix, child in daycare, hubby working full time. Does your friend work too? Is she planning on doing the childminding/housework around her work hours? If she is fully employed and yet they find themselves in what is obviously a dire financial situation where they cannot even afford to pay for a room for the 3 of them, then the kindest thing I suggest, is that they get themselves out and back to their home country where they will have the family support and possible financial assistance from the govt. I would hate to see a young family get ground down by debt here, or find themselves futher in a mire they can't get themselves out of. Do they have an exit strategy? Is there perhaps a way some of us could help them with tickets out of here? Obviously, not knowing their full circumstances, all of this could be way off.

PN, I think at this stage you would be best to offer your time to one of the established groups, DARC, FF, K9, any of the animal shelters. All of whom do huge work with rescue. The main problem that I can see with your idea is that if you start actively searching for yet more animals to deliver to an overloaded, fill to the brim system, is, we'd begin compounding the issues. There are not enough foster families, not enough potential adopters, not enough money, not enough space. Whats to become of these animals? At the very least euthanasia, which is a far kinder end to an animal that may suffer long and unessecarily otherwise. You will find that many people are kind and softhearted, to their detriment at times. They will take in any stray they happen to see, or animals just seem to 'know' that these people will help them. Out of their own pocket and in their own time they make heroic efforts to nuture, nurse back to health and rehome these animals if they can. It's not always possible.

Ooops :)...m trying to write in proper english...n btw ma English isnt dat gud...bt m sure....wid d help of dz forum, i can learn this RICH LANGUAGE :) Ah see babylicious, I don't actually believe your english is that bad. It takes time and committment to mangle the language as you have, and a decent knowledge of it. Look at the lovely spelling you have on the words you have actually written in full! (and that is coming from someone who cannot spell even with english as a first language) What I think the ladies are trying to say, is do you have any idea how difficult it is to decipher what you have written? It's like trying to have online conversation with my 12 year old nephews, frustrating and confusing. At least I can give them a cyber whack and demand they speak properly :D For the most part anyone would be forgiven for just skimming your origonal post, shaking their head, moving on and leaving you with no helpful resolution to your question. How does that serve you? Congrats on birth of babe, hope your Mum and yourself have a lovely time at whatever event it is, and good for you for standing up to the (entirely expected :)) teasing your post engendered.

Jordans wonderful, not sure about Eid though, might be busy with lots of travellers leaving/arriving? Petra is certainly do-able with a small person, theres a lot of walking to be done and not all the land underfoot is neccessarily easy with a stroller...a proper 3 wheeler terrain buggy would make light work of it if you have one of those? Otherwise consider a back pack carrier for her. You won't be able to make it up to the high sites with her without either a backpack carrier, or, taking her on a donkey if youre comfortable with that. Still, theres a lot to be seen without going up the hills. Theres horse and carriages/and ponies to ride on for the first main avenue, and thats good fun for the lil ones.

Both Muscat and Jordan are fabulous...but for 2 or 3 nights I'd choose Muscat, more relaxing, less travel. We really only spent a day at the Dead Sea itself, but 10 days travelling around Jordan, and as someone has said, there are so many wonderful place to go, things to see, that I would save it up for a 'proper' holiday.

British school of muscat is great and you can move mid term if a place. no places all year groups, but hoping when we go for a recce we can talk to them. Have another school to look at, and a back up option, so HOPING that it doesnt become a mad drama.

Ok, here is a strategy for you: You say Braedenton was a stop gap school because too expensive in the other years? Skip FS1, and research your schools of pref. and get lil miss on the waitlists/assessed for next september intake into FS2. Some nurseries do FS1, have space, do a full year and full days for working parents. (Blossom springs to mind) IF you get yourself a job in the next 12 months before lil miss is due to start school, you can pop her into nursery..no harm, no foul. This means, that if money is tight, you're not paying out unneccessarily, you start paying for school/nursery when you start being paid for your work and you are no further out of pocket. If downsizing come feb (take it that is the end of your current lease?) start looking now for your preferred areas/houses/apartments so you can make smart decisions re: proximity to school of choice. added bonus to lil miss starting school next year...your husbands company will pay her fees. If worried about your daughters socialising..perhaps look into the jebel ali playgroup? friends took all their lil ones there and highly rated it. Not sure if the EW mums still have their playgroups round and about? that info must be somewhere.

We always have ours in the garden at home. Make the games ourselves around whatever theme lil miss has dreamt up. At 5, it was an angelina ballarina party (pinata, pass parcel and musical statues) At 6 it was butterflies....musical butterflies (chairs) butterfly bingo, butterfly target practise (throwing water balloons at big butterfly for points) pin wing on butterfly, butterfly pinata. Did more or less the same games but with a flower theme for a friends 5 yr old not long after that. cakes to match theme, as well as goody bags. 7th birthday coming up, and its a tropical island paradise theme with mocktails (don't ask!!) And then you just have a finger food supper/early tea..though this year with our tropical theme we're bbqing. hth

My head was in the snow then ( I just moved here).... if you have just moved here thats different but there is no excuse for long timers who still havent done anything about it. Most 'longtimers' havent done anything about it, because why should they? It (from memory) costs a reasonable amount, has to be renewed, so lets face it thats a cost x3 for at least the last 3 years for a card that has absolutely no function for most people, rather in the begining, a long drawn out painful, process and a lot of companies didnt help with it. 5am que-ing and still no appointment type painful. By now most reasonable people would have presumed the process for a card that is compulsory would be linked into the visa process and renewal. But nup...that sounds too much like rocket science. Still if this is a definitive cut off date, then people will comply, rather than face the fines I spos. (oh, and we didnt need the card for renewing vehicle registration either)

I did miss it, thanks wikkid, and will def. email you. Currently looking like Lil miss will do a term at her current school here even if the job goes ahead, given how long things can take to get rolling, so now I'm worried about how unsettling that will be for her...get settled with new class/teacher, then shift and become the new girl mid year. Otherwise, we are looking forward to it. We have all enjoyed our trips to Muscat so the idea of living there is quite exciting. So now we just have to see what happens. Thanks everyone.

of the pool specifically....I need a cleaning system...just a simple brush/hose/handle job. Do you think I can find one? Himself searched NZ but wrong time of year there for pools, and we've done the rounds of all the usual suspects here in dxb and can't find a thing. ACE used to have them, but not when we last did the rounds a month ago. Has anyone at all seen anything lately even remotely resembling this kind of system somewhere? Awful...and typical of companies to say, oh no, not our problem we tried to call, they won't give us time. Anything to shift the blame away from their incompetence. I can totally relate to how you feel re: the shouting...I have never lost the plot anywhere or at anytime in my life as I have done here, and like you was utterly shocked that I had it in me. Whether it's hormones coupled with immense frustration, doesnt matter. I do think we (as women) come from places where we are capable, treated as such and then this little woman brushing off, talking over us, and our inability to get even the simplest of things done wears you down to the point we can snap. Big hugs aussie pup...lets hope today is a little more successful for you. xx
