I was raised in the MiddleEast, I tell you don't wear provocative clothing.. but you can wear sleeveless, knee length skirts.. you most definitely don't have to cover your arms.. I don't.. and I am Arab American.. I say, the role of the thumb is when in doubt don't wear it.. don't wear shorts, no see-through clothing etc. other than that you will be ok..

Dr. Makki did it for me once, I realized one eye was more open than the other.. so I ended up with one small eye and one bigger.. Dr. Alma first time was good, still liked the second time but if I go there again I will tell her to go easy on the forehead as my husband felt I was emotionless... but I would try her again most definitely.. with Dr. Hamad Al jaber who is a popular doctor, he is Qatari and is a perfectionist.. I never tried him "Yet" for Botox or filler.. but he did my Tummy tuck and I find him to know what he is doing, in addition he has a lot of Qatari ladies customers, if this tells u anything, it tells you he is good.. Dr. Hamad is in the same clinic as Dr. Makki ( you can call the same clinic as you called for Makki).. he is very straightforward guy, may not talk much but he knows his stuff. I highly respect him.. so that's my experience with Botox here.. let me know where will you end up going :).. by the way, for $200 you can do it in Jordan.. so maybe when u r in the area and want to go roam around and visit Jordan, I can give you a couple of doctors name.. I am getting fillers with Dr. Hamad in the next couple of weeks, I will let you know my experience with him ( although I will be biased with him that I know :))

I had mine done 6 weeks ago with a Dr Hamad Al Jaber.. I really cant possibly say anything bad about this exceptional doctor.. his work is a piece of art.. he is a nice nice doctor... he replies to emails, text messages whenever you have a question... he is a perfectionist.... I love him... I actually told him that when I saw my tummy for the first time lool.. gave the guy the shock of his life.. his answer was " wait till you see the results in few weeks" .. well I am happy to report, I still love him... only thing is, he doesn't have before and after pictures, but once you are in Doha, I am happy to show off my tummy to you.. I don't send pictures though... also, the recovery ( at least for me) was tough... it was as hard as my 3 c sections combined together.. my husband helped me with the kids, my mom was here for the first 10 days.. all what I did is care for me, even with that, I still needed help when I got my coughing spouts and to get in and out of bed... but overall, I cant recommend him enough.. well be getting further work with him..

expensive.. its around QAR 2000... I just had a tummy tuck with Dr Hamad Al Jaber and I think he is awesome, will be using him for Botox and fillers soon.. I also had botox with Dr Makki ( did not like it much) and twice with Dr Alma ( she was fine).. But knowing the exceptional job and reputation Dr Hamad has, he will be his regular doctor.. amazing doctor ( he is Qatari)... you can email me if you need any other information.

Here is y experience from 2 years ago.. arrived Aug 17th ( we already were accepted in ACS).. we have a US citizen, we did not wait the 6 month bank statement to get sponsored by my husband we got here in our passport, got visa from the airport ( visit visa).. in 2 weeks we had our visa.. after which we applied for a maid visa which we got within a week after my visa... so no wait for 6 months as I was told too by other expats.. ( all depends on individual experience).. I heard that the Finish school which is new in Doha still accepting kids.. worth trying..

Please stay where you are for a couple more month.. it is miserable to say the least in July and August.. your kids will hate it.. I am speaking from experience and I actually to the middle east in August and my kids just thought I was torturing them. Add to that, that in July there is not much to do as it will be Ramadan and things work differently in ramdan with things opening real late.. My strong advise for both of you, is enjoy the weather where you are, your kids will still have time to adapt to the hotness :).. September is still hot...

Hi Roozie, I am not sure what SA means.. my mom is 76, and I was able to get her on a visit visa by asking nicely the person incharge :)... she is Jordanian... however, during the process, I did go to a hotel just to enquire, and appareatnlty its doable through a hotel.. no age limit ( from what I understood) but they require u to book with them for 2 or 3 nights cant recall.. we went to a random hotel in Souq waqef to enquire..

Just an FYI, we got a maid after one month of me being here.. my husband came a month before me and the kids and I followed a month later, I got my paper work done within a week, and applied for the maid.. she was here a month later... I heard about the 6 month wait.. but that never was an issue for us.. we are from the US.. Also one hour charges on a temp basis for a maid is around 35 Qatari Riyal.. ( close to $10.00) with a minimum of 4 hours... ( there are many agencies here who do just that) edited by Babysoosoo on 18/02/2015 edited by Babysoosoo on 18/02/2015

We have Alico, they do cover it.. but its a pain in the butt process.. their first response is NO WAY, then **** NO, then NO, then N, then okay fine.. it takes months for them to approve it.. but eventually they do.. very very stressful.. BTW, we see Dr Amel el Tayeb if you wanted a doctor..

We had one in Dubai for 2 years and she was fantastic.. when we moved here we were told the only way is through the agency... we ended up paying 15000 fees.. she came here and we couldnot process her visa bc apparently she has a case in Saudi Arabic that we did not know about... so she had to leave bc they wouldnot process her residency. we lost the 15 k .. so just be careful....

for those who have american credit card, you can use borderlinx.com ot ship your items.. they are really DHL.. they way it works is you open an account with them, then they will give you 2 addresses one in the UK and one in the US.. they will open the shipment once it arrives to your provate addrress, inspect it, and make sure its okay.. you can chose to wait for all your items to be shipped togther or ask for only the items you want to be hsipped to you instead of waiting for the others... it will then be shipped to your home in Qatar via DHL.. u can collect it from their office or ask for it to be dropped off at your house. so now you can use the Macys sale :)

We're going with kids in April, just a thought but why not split your time. We are doing a few nights in KL and then 4 in Langkawi. What we have also done is booked to go to Hong Kong, so the Malaysian part is a free stop over and we just added on the Langkawi flights with the same airline. We felt it gave us the best of both worlds, sightseeing, culture, beach break, some rainforest and Disney for the kids! Was surprisingly cheap. Hi, can you share with me your itenary.. I am torn apart by both islands, and not sure what to do :).. we are going few days to KL and then to one of the islands.. but hey if we can also do HK then why not... We fly to KL, Malaysian airlines. We stay in the airport and wait 2 hrs for connecting flight to Langkawi. Then we come back one morning to KL, do 3 nights there then onto HK for a week. On the way back we have booked a hotel in the airport for the day as we have about 11 hour wait for flight from KL to Dubai, it has a pool and means we have a room for a nap until our flight leaves late at night. We are staing in club rooms most places and got quite decent prices though Bookings.com. We are staying Berjaya in Langkawi, Traders in KL, and Crowne Plaza in HK (the one in Happy Valley). Hope that helps. edited by Elmpark on 22/12/2013 Thank you sooo much... you are the best :)

I had to sign in just to reply to this one :).. I have no clue what everyone is talking about.. I have been here for one month and myself and the kids already have our residencey ( we had it 2 weeks ago, and I also have my diriving licence).. My husband has been here for 2 months.. but applied after he got his.. so total wait is less than a month.. My kids would have been in trouble if they didnot have their residency as school now wont let them even attend without it.. I am American if that makes any difference..

Seriously, what is the YIKES for?.. Dubai is a very nice , civilized place to be at.. I personally come from the US, and I would never call Dubai or anywhere else for that matter a YIKES place.. To answer your question, if you arrive during the summer, you will find a lot of good rates in 4/5 stars hotels (some of them offer a 2 bedroom appartments, which I assume is what you are looking for).. The longer you stay the better is the offer.. We have been staying in one for 8 months and we love it... price is a little bit over the range of of your budget, but not by too much..

You should definitely say something - if the shoe was on the other foot am sure you would want someone to step in if your child was being neglected. Actually, think that it's appalling when women post on her that they have seen something and done nothing about it then and there; it reminds me of the Pastor Neimler (sp) poem. I 100% agree with you... in fact it happened with me 3 months ao in green community (saw a nanny slappin a child), I went nuts at the nanny, then I found out where the family lived, knocked at the door and told the parents, the mom cried, she couldnot believe it... she said her toddler looked like she was content with the nanny while her older sons didnot like her, and she wasnot sure why... not sure what happened to the nanny or the family after that, but I felt that at least I did something and warned them.. if the situation was reveresed, I would want someone to tell me, I would want someone to talk to the nanny.. I would want something!!

Hi girls, thank you for the replies.. I actually like to see the diffrence in opinions I mean who says that everyone likes Dubai.. I didnot, I thought it was very impersonal, very fake, materialistic etc... Imet some nice people, but overall.. didnot like it.. ofcourse other people fall in love with it, but that wasnot me.. obviously Qatar will be the same, some people will like it, some will not.. I liek ot read more.. some Doha critisim I actuall like... eg.. no coffee shops open during Ramdan, I actually like that b/c it means its less tempting... overall.. I would love to meet new people.. so if anyone intrested, please let me know. edited by Babysoosoo on 26/07/2012

My OH has been studying Arabic and is now at Low-Intermediate level and needs a tutor for Conversational Arabic. He is currently taking 4 hours a week with a language school one to one, but wants the opportunity to go to a coffee shop, or a supermarket and chat in Arabic for practical application. Does anyone have any experience of this? Or know any Arabic teachers (preferably Gulf or Syrian) who would be able to assist? Many Thanks Hi, I am looking for something too.. which language school does he attend? and where?

For me, IHOP is all about the carb heavy yummy breakfast - eggs, Bacon, pancakes, hash browns, mushrooms.... I have had salads and grills but thats not really the point for me. Thats like going to the Cheesecake factory and moaning about the calories in a slice of cheesecake that will easily feed 3! I LOVE THAT.. yes if you are going to count your calories, eat small portions at IHOP..

If you scroll down that yahoo page an Immigration Attorney has given this info: The 3-step process is to file and obtain Labor Certification from Department of Labor which requires advertising to locate domestic worker from local labor pool. Employer has to advertise in local newspapers of general circulation. If a local worker is not found, then you can proceed and file a Petition for Immigrant Worker, Form I-140. Once the petition is approved, then the visa is issued upon visa number becoming current. That is what Fred (earlier answerer) is referring to. It takes several years in the Third preference employment based category as Fred correctly pointed out. Madan Ahluwalia Immigration Attorney www.ahluwalia-law.com So I guess it can be done, but it will take a few years, by which time your children will be older (ie after you first advertise the position in the local paper stipulating you want an Arabic speaking, Muslim nanny and don't hope you don't happen to find one, and then you can begin the application process after that.) I KNOW!! based on this my kids will be working.. and the nanny probbaly will be 103 years old.. and I will be 109....I would need a nurse by then.. IF I AM ALIVE..

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071230185506AAzXQiE Someone has asked this question, for a Phillippine worker on the above link. I think you will find it very difficult, though, You nay have to have a guarantee for her (as if she runs off (as they tend to expect they will do when you tell them 'contract is up' as you've been thinking '2 year contract, they've been thinking 'US Passport') the gment wants to hold you accountable for bringing that burden into their country). I think your next challenge will be that it is not a qualified position and there are many nannies on permanent residence in the States already. I also think your accounts will be reviewed, ie you have to have a minimum income of X in order to sponsor her, or assets equal to Y'. I do think you are better off contacting your embassy for this, though, and asking them the visa requirements as you're most likely just going to get opinions on this site when you need facts. hey, thanks for yr answer , correct on many nannies in the US, but nanny who speaks arabic snd muslim is unique... lets hope it works.. :)

Was wondering if I can do that.. We may be moving back to the US this summer.. We want our nanny, can this happen? Is it doable? Has anyone done this before? I won’t let her live illegally either… some people would take their nanny on a visit visa and let her stay, and we are not willing to do this… I would like to keep her for 1 or 2 years possibly.. My justification for employing her and not someone else, aside from me trusting her with the kids, but b/c she also speaks Arabic and is Muslim.. both is a requirement for me. I will pay her the usual minimum employment rate in the States, so that wont be an issue either… Does anyone know?.. when I say permamantly, I really mean 1- 2 years, but not forever, but its also not a short visit.. she has a daughter back home, so she needs to go back when her term is over.. edited by Babysoosoo on 26/04/2012

Hi, I've been a EW member for a few years but don't post very often. I was hoping that you ladies could give me some advice for a friend of mine living in the UK. She is a Muslim lady married to a Christian. She is aware that this is not allowed by her religion but hasn't been practicing her religion for a few years. She is considering moving to Dubai and asked me if I could find out if she would face any problems here, in particular, if her and her husband have children in Dubai. She is hoping to start a family next year and was advised that she would face problems registering a child's birth in Dubai as her marriage took place in a church in the UK and her marriage certificate indicates this. Does anyone know if she will face any problems here in particular in relation to having children? She is worried enough to change her plans to relocate to the UAE if it would affect giving birth, obtaining a birth certificate or registering the birth. Thanks, Bee Seriously its common sense.. UAE practices the shariaah law... in my humble opionion she will be in trouble... they ask for your religon all th etime here.. in all applications... if she writes muslim, and he is Christian.. she is going to get in trouble... b/c shariah law doesnt permit the mirrage... then she and her husband are really living togther in Dubai when she is not suppose to do that.. whats worst is when she has kids.... she need to be careful b/c she may end up with serious serious legal issues..
