Not sure if the OP has checked out, but I hope my post, along with others, doesn't come across as hypercritical or know-it-all. I've just been down this road before, and hate to see someone else fret over something or make expensive appointments without a second opinion from a medical doctor. I've seen these herbalist clinics prey on people (especially with promises of weight loss) opposing the medical community who are supposedly all in on this grand scheme to keep us sick while big Pharm get richer. rule of thumb: if you ever see the word "detox" just RUN!

It is nuts right now. I refuse to go anywhere I can't walk, except on early Fri/Sat mornings. Luckily my commute to and from work hasn't been too harrowing. Nothing worse than back home anyway. I wasn't too happy about having to cross a freshly asphalted street yesterday, despite the gestures of the construction guys saying it was okay. I put my foot down....STICK. Lovely!!!!

they want me to go and see their doc who takes care of candida related stiff...but I wanted to go to a hospital instead and get it looked at...don't mind going and seeing them as well as they are quite reputable (or so I've heard)... I think it is a wise choice for you to see a doctor not associated with the clinic that performed your testing and reached your diagnosis. *Just* in case it is not correct, and you can get a second opinion, especially since you are asymptomatic.

Go to Rashid Hospital. I would not recommend Iranian hospital to anyone..... edited by IzzyOnTheSeat on 14/09/2014 Really? I would. I've been treated there, along with a co-worker of mine, and I think the care there is excellent. And reasonable. Rashid may be leaps and bounds better--I don't have any personal experience.

@beebers...I got the food intolerance test done at the Dubai treatment and herbal centre...since I have tested positive for candida I'd like to go to a specialist in a hospital for the treatment...I usually go to the American hospital but they have one GI specialist and appointments are not available until oct...I am not really suffering from it in any way but since it is an imbalance, I want to get it fixed... Got it. Sorry to hear that. I have heard good things about Dr. Smiley as others have suggested. You may not need to see a specialist; a friend of mine was able to cure his working with his GP and following the nutrition plan he was given. (Avoiding wheat and sugar, the typical doctor's recommendations). Depending on the severity you may not even need medication. Hope you sort it quickly.

Exactly, Lolacat. I have absolutely no faith in those tests. I had them done once, through a naturopath working in tandem with a chiropractor back in the US, and it was complete garbage. They usually promise magical weight loss as well, and treat the body as if it cannot manage its own detox and the like. This is not to say food intolerances do not exist, but if you have one--you'll probably have uncomfortable symptoms. And the first step of action is seeing a GP and stating your grievances, so you can begin the process of finding out what's wrong.

OP, I can't determine by your post wording, when you say you "found out about it," do you mean you were diagnosed when your food intolerance tests were performed, or rather you were informed that this *could* be condition you suffer from? Most people who I know who have suffered from candida had severe symptoms. I also find it strange that the place where you had this intolerance test didn't give you any recommendations for medicinal therapy or guidance. At least I am assuming they didn't, since you are asking for a reference for a physician on this forum.

Best way to improve your English is read books and watch quality TV quality tv = oxymoron these days :) Truthfully, I am surprised on a weekly basis at the level of understanding that was achieved by one of my co-workers who solely learned through t.v. That said, he is having a really hard testing out of English for Uni because of lack of writing capability and poor grammar. But, he can spot well camouflaged sarcasm, and is familiar with a hoard of idioms.

In that case, what about souq.com? Michael Kors, Fossil, Diesel, Boss and other familiar fashion brands will be on there, in the 500-700 range. But going back to my sentiments about buying watches from companies that exclusively make watches, on souq.com at least, I think Lucien Piccard is the best you can do in that price range. DH and I each have one, and get a lot of compliments on them. ETA: It was the first watch I bought DH because Ava Gardner gifted one to Frank Sinatra :) edited by Beebers on 11/09/2014

What kind of watch? I prefer to buy watches from a company that only makes watches. Never disappointed with that method. Love Swatches actually :) My field watch is a Hamilton, but like Swatches, that is kind of a cult brand. They have models for 500 or under, but I don't think Rivoli and the local jewelry houses carry anything but the top end models.

I was always happy with Champion Cleaners, but they seem to be the most expensive in Dubai. I now use Laundrybox and would never go back. They are not expensive and have the BEST service, and it's next day! We have a locker system in our building, but even if you don't have the drop off/pick up lockers in your building, you can call them to come pick up and they will drop off. You create an online account on their website where you can list your preferences for folding/hang up--foolproof. They have even emailed me before, to notify that "a button is coming loose, should they fix for free if possible?" They've mended several things for me at no charge.

I had to come back to post. One of the designers at G & B, Jigar, just emailed me photos of the white gold heirloom band I dropped off to have melted and redesigned to match my yellow gold wedding band. WOW. He told me when I dropped it off it will be darn close, and he will do his best. He made an exact replica, exact. Stoked! :)

Dymatize and Optimum are both good quality. I found ISO-100 to be a bit of a chemical aftertaste but it is still a good quality product. A good way to spot a junky product is if the sodium is high. Something else I have observed some companies doing is loading the product with Taurine, an amino acid. The label will list that the protein count is 28g per scoop, but only 13g of this is actually whey protein. It's easy to spot, as pure whey concentrate/isolate blends (like Optimum for example) shouldn't be more than 24g per scoop. You might get 26g out of a scoop of whey isolate. If it claims to be higher, you know something is fishy. It will also not mix well.

I am having an heirloom white gold wedding band melted and remodeled to match my yellow gold wedding band at G & B at the Gold Souk Dubai Mall, opposite Cheesecake Factory, at the moment. I wouldn't say my gold band design is intricate, but it's not plain, and I want the white gold one to be an exact duplicate. They don't have to add any gold, but it will be hand crafted. They quoted me between 500-600 max. Anxious to see how it turns out in a few days :) For normal melting and re-crafting, they charge about 400 dhs if the new design can be done with a machine, and no gold is to be added.

Dubai's fines certainly don't seem to impede reckless and dangerous driving! Sadly, it's hard to do anything about the crazies going 160+, changing 4 lanes at a time, and flashing their brights. Those people should have their license revoked. We were driving in the left lane on SZR, and were overtaken by an SUV who decided to use the shoulder to accomplish this. The driver fishtailed after, almost losing control of his vehicle while he swerved back and forth between 2 lanes. I can't even call that a bad driver; this person clearly had psychological issues.

Don't worry about it. There is nothing magical about eating up until 7pm versus after. People who stick to that rule may lose weight, because it is a method of cutting calories--simple. Your "eating window" does not matter, your caloric intake does.

You'll get used to it and agree with Daza. If you are mentally aware of what hunger signifies, you learn to embrace. I am not promoting an eating disorder mentality, just to be clear--but hunger between meals is a good sign. On the sugar free gum--might not be a good idea. I used to have major digestive issues and couldn't for the life of me figure out what I was eating to cause them. Guess what? 5+ sticks of gum daily was the problem. Most S/F gums contain sorbitol and this was the culprit. To fight hunger I eat pickles! Really hits the spot and ridiculously low in calories.

OP, I don't know how long it's been since you've run outside, but I have finally crept out of the woodwork for morning runs again and it's not bad. Past 3 months, no way. But now, not bad between 6:30 am and even 9 am for a couple-a-3k. That new area "The Beach" has a padded running/walking trail with some exercise machines alongside. I never feel suffocated running down there by the water. Too, I have seen an advertisement on the Cinema screen at The Beach for a month long training program for 500 aed. I cannot remember the name of the program or website, but I have seen groups training on the grassy areas near The Counter and Eggspectation. Maybe that's it.

total waste of money. I agree, especially if you are looking for the results of this testing to provide a magic bullet for weight loss. There are no sinister nutrients that are secretly sabotaging weight loss, although some people would love to take your money by making you believe this. For anyone that is breaking out in hives, rashes, or getting violently ill and suspects a severe food allergy, then the first step would be a GP to determine where to go for testing if they do not do it in office. edited by Beebers on 03/09/2014

Hatta entry is a little different, I went with a friend on August 28th First checkpoints are same. The first, they will probably not even look at your passport. (or you). At the second, they will look and possibly ask you some questions. Note: should they ask why you don't have a resident visa, why don't you get one, etc. don't worry--this is just chit-chatting. At the 3rd, you no longer park on the right side of the road after the "exit stamping" cabin. This area is now for trucks [b'>only[/b'>. Instead, drive on ahead to the new border complex. At this drive through station, next to the new Arrivals building on your left, you will give your passport to the agent at the window for your exit stamp. You do not get out of your car. They are very friendly, and quite helpful if you don't know what to do next. Drive on, and you come to the next checkpoint as you approach Oman. The guys are all in blue uniform. Stop your car, pop your trunk, let them have a look. Here they gave you a flimsy little piece of paper. You'll take that in, along with your passports, to the building ahead. Drive on even further, and you come to the Wajaja Building/Omani Consulate. Fill out the form on the tables with seating, and enjoy the new seats they have in the queues should the lines be long. After looking at your passport, when they ask, tell them it's a visa change, enter and exit. 50 dhs a person, but this may be more on weekends? tell them the # of travelers in your car. They will make a little notation on the flimsy piece of paper.from the previous checkpoint indicating the number of your party. Head back the way you came. You will pass through the first checkpoint without stopping, however, Up ahead on the left, you will see a tiny cabin with an agent in it. Hand him the flimsy paper indicating # in your party. Next was the tricky part. You have the building on your left with a parking area. On the right, are drive through lanes for GCC residents. Park before going through the lanes, and enter on the side where it says "Arrivals". We went inside and got our entrance stamps. We were handed a little ticket also. Getting out, we found it tough to be "let in" to go through the drive through lanes. Just stick your car out, and force your way in, because although you do not need to show anything to those agents, you do need to pass through the lane on the right side. (they are wide enough for two vehicles). I hope they change this or make it more obvious as to what should be done... A ways ahead, we had to present that little ticket to another small cabin with a UAE border agent on the left hand side of the road, where all the trucks are parked at the old building, with the Duty Free. Khalas, a couple more checkpoints and you are done. edited by Beebers on 03/09/2014

Wouldn't say it's normal but it happens. I got queue jumped, ridiculously so, at the petrol pump. I was 3rd in a line of 6 cars. This gal came rolling up, and tried to insert herself in front of me in her Patrol. I wasn't having it and didn't let her in. So she started on the horn. The windows were all blacked out so I didn't know if my facial expressions were penetrating. So I half stepped out of my car, signaling for her to roll down. She rolled down her window, and said basically what is my problem, she is in line, etc, what am I trying to do. I said...are you nuts? lol wrong thing to say, she went off. Luckily the guy behind me stepped out of his car to shoo her off, because I wasn't about to get into a yelling match with a stranger. That was the most blatant disregard I've had here. I must add that plenty of times, I have had local men gesture and insist for me to go ahead of them when they were clearly ahead of me. Take the kind with the rude.

There is something rather stomach churning about this. Moving on, with Ebola a serious risk and HIV rife from certain African countries it maybe not so ideal. I agree, not to be harsh, but not a good idea right now. 2 (?) reported cases in Senegal from the student from Guinea who traveled there. This is also a high number of unreported cases. Ivory Coast has been pretty aggressive about closing its borders, but who knows about visas being issued to work here. As for HIV, that would be sorted in a medical exam.

Had a similar situation--we had a handyman install new and sturdy hinges for a grand total of 40 dhs. They were not the prettiest, however there was no way we were going to pay for a new cabinet door. (Everything "damaged" was our responsibility, even thought the faulty hinge caused the scrape on the door). The whole kitchen cabinetry would have to be replaced for that matter. I would take a picture and email it to your LL so he/she can see exactly what is going on. Probably not news to them that the doors were merely rigged to pass muster. He/she may want to go ahead and replace them all, even if it says that you are responsible for the damage while you are living there. If they don't, just pay a nominal fee to fix the hinges.

As she has already been to hospital and they assured me she would not be reported as she is married, I will wait until tomorrow. If her hcg levels have increased then I will know she is lying and I can send her away with a clear conscience. From googling, it appears that very rarely you can retain a non developing embryo for a prolonged period of time and hcg levels could remain the same (but not increase). I fear that I am probably being ridiculous and do realise that more probably than not she is 5-6 weeks along with a developing pregnancy but I would rather wait a day and find out for sure either way. On a side note dh was not in the country 5-6 weeks ago, so that wouldn't wash even if she did go down that route. I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that unless she has an attested marriage certificate on hand, her marriage won't be recognized? Also, if her husband is not in the country, what good would it do her if she is found to be 5-6 weeks along? If it were only her responsibility it would be one thing. Again, from my understanding, you are held responsible for what would be considered adultery while she is under your care? Eek what a mess. You're being far more tolerant than I would be.

This is really interesting, thank you ladies. Does anyone have a ballpark cost for this? Contraception prices make me pretty nervous in the UAE. I was quoted 1500 at Dubai London Clinic. The Consultation/initial visit is 500, the fitting to be done later is 1000. I don't think this includes the price of the device itself--I didn't get that far. Other places I checked like Healthbay Polyclinic, and others recommended on EW were 2000-3000

Australia has strict laws - bought about due to an incident at Port Arthur (Tasmania)in 1996. Most significant is the banning of all semi - automatic rifles and semi automatic / pump action shotguns. The main idea was that in a nutshell the average person doesn't require the above and that they can cause the most harm. I wish the USA would adopt Australia's border laws for one.

The thing is, psychopaths/murderers/drug addicts are still going to find a way to get guns in a country like the US, even if laws are passed to prohibit law abiding citizens from legally obtaining and owning them. That said, it's no wonder that some people do want to have firearms for protection, especially if they live in a high crime area and moving is not an option.

Guns *can* misfire or the safety can disengage in even the most trained hands, true. Guns *can* recoil in an unexpected fashion as we saw here, in dubious hands. But statistically speaking, intentional harm via guns (people killing people) accounts for far more deaths than accidents. In fact, both poison and motor vehicle accidents kill more people--and children--than firearm deaths (accidental and intentional). Not trying to stir the pot, it's just the facts. Via CDC in case anyone is wondering if this is just propaganda I am regurgitating. It's easy to break it down to statistics but if I had a loved one die due to a firearm accident I don't think I'd take much comfort from the fact that more people die from poison or motor accidents, it's a moot point. Putting an automatic weapon in the arms of a nine year old is an utterly ludicrous thing to do and as a result another child(ren) have lost their father. It is just so needless and preventable. Daza, in my immediately family and close circle of friends, there were tragic deaths with firearms involved. Heart-wrenching. There was also prevented imminent harm thanks to a firearm, but I don't consider myself a pro-gun freak, either. I was referring to an earlier comment "So many needless deaths due to gun accidents in the US with children..." Any senseless death is tragic, period. But statistically speaking, this is not a leading cause of children's or adults deaths compared to other causes. They do get the most media attention, though: media attention that uses tragedy to fuel and perpetuate debate that continues to divide the USA into "they" and "them." Hardly the only platform, but that is another story. As I said, this case is so tragic for both families affected. I could not agree more--- I do not understand any venue that allows children shooting uzis. I had never heard of such a thing and think it is ludicrous.
