Union National Bank. Can't remember the details exactly but it was less than a percent for balance transfers I think. ADIB offer a Fast card at .89% but not sure if you can transfer balances. Good luck.

It's subject to negotiation. So far as I understand it if your LL can demonstrate that a rental increase is due according to the calculator (which is being updated at the moment) then it can be increased after only one year. However, if no increase is due & you have a renewable contract then you may only insist on the same terms. HTH.

I would say your DS will be at rather an advantage starting FS1 in September 2013, as one of the oldest. Have a look at some of the information about performance in school with regards to age/maturity. If I were you I wouldn't be considering starting him earlier. Also if you are only just looking at schools and he's not on any waitlists just yet then the more time you have the better! :) edited by BrownEyedGirl on 23/11/2011 If he was starting FS1 he should be starting in 2012. 3 turning 4. Not sure what the age group for KG1 is. Sorry - meant FS2.

I experienced back pain in my pregnancies, even early on. It's pretty common as the pregnancy hormones make all of your ligaments relax. Try to take it easy, have some paracetamol and book in for a mother to be massage at Sensasia. Congratulations! :)

Children's Oasis are a lovely nursery with locations in and around Um Suqueim. They offer aftenoon sessions of only 3 hours and it's easier to get a place that way! The morning hours are very flexible - you can choose the drop off time & collection is at 12.30. They also have a playcentre on the palm where you can pay by the hour and leave your child in supervised care. I believe MyGym, Little Gym & Du Gym offer independent classes for 3 year olds. Kidville offer a flexible nursery type appoach with lots of independent classes. Perhaps LO is a bit clingy because of the move too?

She's not being paranoid! There is a huge demand for places at good schools. I doubt that registration will actually have closed, at least not at all of those schools (though I could be wrong), but you will certainly limit your chances of a place if you don't get your name ASAP! Good luck!

I would be less worried about her saying it in front of other parents and extremely concerned about her saying it in front of him, a 4 year old does not need to hear that they are "weak" at anything. also agree with responses below, i still struggle with the idea of school here starting so young anyway. Good point - I didn't make it clear in the OP but he wasn't listening and fortunately has bags of confidence. He thinks he can do anything and everything!!

Recently at school pickup teacher tells me DS is 'very weak with writing numbers' in front of some other parents. DS is in FS1 & 4 years old. His 'handwriting' is not brilliant, but when we practice together I can at the very least understand the numbers that he is trying to represent. On a good day he can write little, neat numbers/letters but I accept that on the whole they are not really. She is very direct, as always, and though I appreciate the feedback I wonder if she is being unreasonable in her expectations of him? I don't really know what other 4 year olds are capable of?

Sorry to bring up an old thread. Can anyone tell me what other venues there are for climbing? Advdenture HQ is no good for DS as he's too little and Dorrell, which seems good and appears to offer instruction for his age group, is quite far away. I'm desperate to stop him trying to scale the house - he's obsessed with climbing!

Thanks very much for all of your replies. I am noticing huge progress in his learning and his rate of assimilation seems very good. He can read many of the phonic sounds and is blending simple words and recognises many high frequency words of sight. His teacher has moved him down an ability group in reading due to his inability to focus. I agree about the perils of internet research, but it's so tempting! The teacher is encouraging him to independently complete tasks when asked, even if it takes him a long time and impacts on other activities. I will ask her to ensure that his breaktimes don't suffer though as movement is so important for boys. His teacher is a very experienced, mature professional but I take your point about letting him be Sue B. I know he's very little but my concern is that he will become disengaged with school and start to lose esteem if he continues to find it confusing. I'm very interested to read 'The Way of Boys' - thanks for the suggestion. I like to think he has a good diet already but I will be extra careful about what he eats (difficult with so many parties!!) and look at introducing some supplements. Thanks again all.

DS has just started FS2. He seems to be thriving socially - settling in well, making lots of new friends and talking happyily/enthusiastically about school. His teacher has expressed concerns about his ability to organise himself, action her instructions/requests and focus/concentrate. She says these behaviours are markedly less good than any of his peers. She also said that his fine motor skills are quite poor. It is only when pushed that he forms letters/numbers well though he creates detailed drawings without prompting which are often good representations. My own observations of DS are that he can often be a little 'spacey' and easily gets distracted when doing chores but he can sit quietly for relatively long periods. For instance the other day he happily completed a 60 piece puzzle independently. He's utterly engaged when being read to and though he interjects frequently they are all relevant questions/observations/comments about the book. He certainly isn't hyperactive, though he talks a great deal. It was really only in the last term of nursery (which was part time) that he started to experience school more formally so education proper is still quite new to him. I suppose this may just be a 'normal' part of development and also down to immaturity (his birthday is March) but I'm worried it might be something more. Some of the diet and non drug therapies for ADD are interesting and helpful even without the condition so I guess for now I'll look at using some of those approaches and just keep talking to his teacher about progress. Any input/ideas/experiences welcome. TIA.

Sorry to hear about all of your negative experiences. I had a very good one at Medcare. I was left to my own devices, which was just what I wanted. I was very insistent about what I wanted and was fortunate enough to have a straight forward delivery. My birthplan was very well followed including dim lights and minimal staff. I almost delivered without anyone except DH but the nurse ran in to catch her. I didn't want any nursing input after the birth as she was my second though I did watch them bathe her, rather expertly I thought. I would recommend it.

Cheese & carrot muffins or sweetcorn & spinach pancakes - saves making sandwiches in the morning. Would you mind sharing the recipe for these please? The pancakes are really easy! 100g self raising flour, 2 eggs, salt & pepper and a good amount of sweetcorn & spinach (I use frozen). Whizz all of the ingredients up in a blender and then dollop the mixture in large spoonfuls into a pan and fry them gently. The mixture makes around 8. 1 large grated carrot, 2 eggs, 50 ml olive oil, small pot natural yoghurt, 75g grated cheddar/parmesan, 1 tsp mustard, 185g wholewheat flour, 1.5 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp bicarb soda. Sift together dry ingredients and fold into a mixture of the remaining ingredients. Spoon into muffin cases and bake for around 20 mins at 180 degrees.

I don't know anything about the nursery but I have to say I didn't like the strange sales pitch that I got at the Jebel Ali play group from one of the owner/managers. She was kind of masquerading as a helper and didn't come clean about who she was for ages. Kept asking me leading questions about my childcare arrangements and telling me about a fantastic new local nursery, that kind of thing. Weird.

I'm not finding it too bad really. On day 12 today and have lost nearly 4 kgs! The food is unexciting and functional really but I get too easily tempted to overindulge in nice stuff so for me it's better. I don't feel hungry in the least which is a great advantage. The best recipe I've had so far is the chicken tikka.

It's a great venue for a party but be quick off the mark as they'll be keen to have you finish up within your allotted time. Also, make sure you have PLENTY of adult helpers otherwise it'll be chaos. Invest in some eye catching clothing so that you can spot the little ones a mile off as inside everyone looks the same in their ski gear. Make sure the kids have water repellent gloves or they will get frozen mits. Have fun - we did!!
