No, won't grow out of it. Havent you seen Married with Children? Oh my god that's soooo funny. OP it's a boy thing - they don't grow out of it!!!!!! Ignore - it gets better but if you make a big thing about it they'll do it more as they know it annoys you. They are a strange species boys/men!!!!!

Just another thought - if you bought her from UK with her UK chip it would have been read coming into the country and will be on her export/import details. Has she not been seen by a vet since she arrived in Dubai? If she has been contact your vet as it will be on her file there, According to the man at the municipality place in Mushrif they scan for a chip and if the animal is chipped they call the vets. You can contact the chip people and for a small fee - i htink it was 10.00 you can change the address details - I didn't do that when we lost our cat but I have done it since moving back and we are in a new location so our new address is now linked to her chip here in the UK. so don't worry - if she's found and is found to be chipped the vets in Dubai do check with each other to see if they can track down the owner and if she's been to a vets since arriving in Dubai she will be on their system. Still hope you find her soon xx

Just thought of something else...... We got the security guards to hand out a picture to all the gardeners and I got AR security to give a picture to all the bike patrol guys on AR. another thing I did was do a leaflet for the housemaids and my housemaid handed it out - this one had a reward. I just felt that if I networked someone might just see her. Good luck! xxx

rachel this happened to us and our 13 year old cat just disappeared into thin air. I tried everything. I leaflet dropped (got lots of calls and would rush around like a mad woman but no results).put a picture up in Le Marche and Spinneys, phoned and e mailed her picture to all Dubai vets, went to the pet pound by Mushrif Park and my husband went to the Sharjah pet market......nothing. We did midnight walks with the cat biscuits and my every waking hour was spent looking for her. After 10 days we decided she had gone and we could do no more - that night my DH said he would have one last look and half an hour later came back into the villa with her in his arms....... She was at the end of our road. I think she got out and got so completely confused as all the houses look the same - and just had no idea where to go to get back. Everyone told me she would be close by and they were absolutely right. She was a bit thin but had definitely been fed. Don't give up hope - they are hardy and I bet you she's done the same - just got confused and needs to hear your voice to get her back. Pound the streets close by and shake the biscuits! Ask people close by to check their gardens. Good luck - I hope you have a good result like we did - I know just how you are feeling and it's awful. big hug xxxx

where in the UK are you Claire? that isn't the story I'm getting from family in Scotland, and my current English visitors certainly don't think it's been warm at home..... Glad you are enjoying yourself but really don't believe you about the weather! Well Scotland is Scotland and all the people I know from there are cold!!!! I'm in the south and we do seem to be in a sheltered area and are having wonderful weather. I had to have an operation on 1st October and I was in my bikini in the garden on 2nd October it was sooooo warm! some friends already have crocuses out in bloom and one mum at school was telling me that her camelia bush is out in bloom......how bizarre. Seriously Sandfly it's been lovely and thanks to the mild weather it's been so much easier to settle back here - why would I lie?

Thanks Clairehdp, Sounds wonderful. So nice to hear someone talking positively about the UK. I am here in the UAE for one reason only, my partners job is here and I was sick of living so far apart so I left my beautiful house, wonderful job and even more fantastic friends behind to come here to be with him. All we seam to do is work, then have a few hours each evening to shop, cook and watch a bit of TV. We dont have any real friends here, no time to make them when he works 6 days a week! And weekends are becoming hum drum....same old same old. I am so sick of hearing people tell me how bad it is in the UK at the moment. Well I can say for sure that where I live it is beautiful and all my friends are very happy and content. I know I could get a job tomorrow in the UK if I so wished, but for now I am having to bide my time here and let my DH do his job till the time comes that we can return to the UK. Biggest problem I face is that he doesn't want to return to the UK as where he is from it isn't very nice and has never lived where I live and is apprehensive of doing so.......humm! Think I'm just having a down day, missing home, missing 'my' people, friends, family etc....and of course the Yorkshire countryside! Oh and not to forget to mention my nice log burning stove....you cannot beat a cold evening but being wrapped up warm inside next to a log burning fire.......umm, that idea about going back to bed is getting more and more appealing! Right - this is what I would do if I were you and feeling down. Get on the phone and book a night at Bab Al shams. they are doing great deals at the moment - it's a short drive through the desert roads from Dubai but once you are lying by the pool overlookig the sand dunes you are in heaven. book both of you in for a relaxing massage - have a lovely dinner together and some cocktails on the roof terrace - and enjoy each others company in a stunning location. Sounds to me like you need to break the routine and inject a little excitement. Do it next weekend - have his bag packed when he returns home and just do it! I'm excited just thinking about you doing it!!!!! Seriously - I loved my time in Dubai and wasn't sure about how I would be coming back to the UK but now I have the best of both worlds - lovely friends in Dubai who we can stay with (we were over for new year and it was fab!) and a lovely new home here in the UK where friends can come to stay with us when they are over too - win, win.

Just remember..right now in the UK it is freezing cold, grey and miserable. The economy stinks and most people are scraping by wishing they could have a few weeks in the sun. Go down to the beach for a few hours, feel the warmth on your skin. Go home and have a luxurious bath and then get glammed up and go for a lovely dinner and drinks somewhere. Appreciate it hunny......a lot of people would envy you,#. Oh and just think.......summer in the UK only lasts 1 day lol!!!! Eeeerrrrr it's not freezing it's pretty warm in the uk we are back there now and have not had a winter at all to speak of yet...... I have had an iced windscreen 3 times so far! One morning it snowed for an hour and was melted by the next hour and I've been wearing my sunglasses every day because it's been blue skies and sunshine ( granted not bikini weather!) but it's been very very pleasant. Yesterday was only the 2 nd day that I've put up my brolly! I haven't even bought a winter coat just lovely jumper weather so far..... All the people I meet are upbeat and not in the slightest miserable. I'm really enjoying being back especially living 6 minutes away from one if the argent m& s stores in the south and I'm loving the waitrose just a few minutes up the rad too. Cranberry and date hot cross buns are amazing with a nice hot cuppa!. When I was in Dubai I used to read all these horror stories about life in the uk I'm very happy to report that it's still a lovely place to be and this year especially with the jubilee and the olympics it should be Britain at ts best and I, for one, can't wait! We are popping over to France tomorrow for lunch! 24 uk pounds return and that includes return fare on the ferry for 4 taking the car, includes 6 bottles f wine and a full cooed English breakfast for 2 people - how fab is that! We are going to driven along the coast find a lovely restaurant, order moules et frites and a pitcher du vin and have fun before loading the car up with really cheap wine and beer and head back - nice way to spend a day! <em>edited by Clairehdp on 20/01/2012</em>

I would think that London will be jammed for the Olympics. The hotels are bound to be charging top dollar for all rooms. As for things to do with a 9 year old and 12 year old I can tell you what my kids love and what my nephews have loved doing in London over the years: London eye The Big Bus Tour London Duck Tour Madame Tussauds Imperial War Museum Science Museum Natural History Museum The Victoria and Albers Museum (my little boy has done that today on a school trip) London Dungeons The Planetarium Picnic in Hyde Park A few hours in Hamleys in Regent Street A stroll through China Town and some lunch there Ice cream in Fortnum and Masons food hall The tower of London London Zoo Stroll around Covent Garden See the Changing of the guards and Buckingham Palace and the all important Downing Street and the Houses of Parliament and the famous Big Ben! Get on the train and go to Legoland in Windsor for the day Visit Windsor Castle and do a river boat trip on the Thames from there. Lunch at The Hard Rock Cafe and buying the all important clothing! Lunch at the Rainforest Cafe Matinee in the theatre (not sure what's on at the moment) It's a fabulous city with so much going on - especially lovely in the summer when you can walk in the sunshine and enjoy the beautiful parks dotted around the city. I'm meeting my friend there next week for a kids free morning we're going to stroll around - hit Harrods and probably end up having some champagne somewhere to celebrate both of our recent birthdays. I adore London and always have a wonderful time there. I worked in the West End for many many years so know lots of lovely tiny little cobbled streets for amazing sandwich lunches etc but cna't for the life of me remember the names - it's just a lovely city to stroll around and enjoy the architecture and history. I hope this helps you!

There are some gorgeous restaurants at DIFC - Zuma, Gaucho and Le Petit Maison. Table 9 at Hilton Creek gets my vote at the moment for the most amazing new restaurant in Dubai. How about Atmosphere in Burj Khalifa for the wow factor. Always had great meals at the Rivington Grill sit out on the terrace and watch the fountains. Love The Mango Tree at Souk al Bahar again get table on the terrace. Buzzy restaurant the Karma Cafe at souk al bahar For a beautiful setting and superb indian food I would go to Amala in Zabeel Soray on The Palm. How about Nobu at Atlantis. There are so many amazing restaurants to choose from. Another one I think is lovely is Prime at the Meydan Hotel. What is the price range for Table 9 at Hilton Creek? Dont want to pay dhs500 for a steak ;) Starters are 70 dhs (they recommend ordering 2 starters and share) and main courses are 100 dhs without sides (can't remember the prices of the side dishes). It's sooooo worth it - like no other restaurant a lovely experience with superb food. <em>edited by Clairehdp on 20/01/2012</em>

Yep both properties we got the security deposit back - don't give the keys in until the money is in your hand unless, you've trashed the place but if it's being handed back in good condition (take photos too as proof) then you should get the full deposit back with no problem. Any issues I would say that I will leave the keys with the rent committee and they can hand the keys over when the deposit money is returned.......

I know just where you are - having lost my father in law and my own fabulous dad within months of each other it can be absolutely devastating. You think you are coping OK but you suddenly realise that you are not...... sounds like you've hit that brick wall of grief and it's not a nice place to be. I would highly recommend you make an appointment to see Sabina Christensen at the dubai London Clinic - she specialises in grief counselling and is a wonderful person to sit with and talk to. She also has copious amounts of tissues! Treating yourself to some ME time is a good idea too. sounds like you just need to talk to someone who really really understands how your heart is breaking. I never thought I'd laugh again but I can tell you with some help from Sabina and the support of fabulous friends I got through the dark tunnel. I now think of my Dad (every single day) with a smile on my face and not a trembling bottom lip. Just reading your cry for help has brought back the feeling of complete and utter despair that I felt. Being away from your family at the time of grieving is very very hard but please know that there are people who can help you and hold your hand while you figure out how best to get through this. Some men just don't know how to deal with us quivering wrecks and you have to also remember that your husband will also be grieving for the 2 miscarriages you have suffered. Make that call and get yourself in to see Sabina - take some quiet time for yourself and I hope that in time you can be back to your old self and you and your husband can build on your relationship and, in time, have the family you both so want. You're one very brave lady to put out this note and I wish you lots of healing and happier times. You will, with the right help and support, come of of that black place - I promise you! Life is really good for me now - I still wish every single day that my Dad was here to talk to me and hug me but I am in a very happy place with my lovely family and I have very happy memories of our time together and lots of lovely photos too. big hug from me xxx Here's her profile on their website - saves you looking for her number http://www.dubailondonclinic.com/sabina_christensen.php <em>edited by Clairehdp on 16/01/2012</em>

I think that IS part of the standard lease - I'm sure it was on all of ours. Your undestanding is absolutely correct. As long as your lease does not say NON RENEWABLE you have a renewable lease. If it's your first year renewal he has to renew on exactly the same terms - not 5k more, not 10k more - THE SAME! He might use the - I want to move back in or I want to sell the property but for him to have the property back he needs to give you ONE YEARS notice to quit. so.....he can provide you with one years further lease and make it a NON RENEWABLE lease. That way - he can move in himself and/or sell it. I am telling you this from personal experience. we were given an eviction notice after our first year and the LL said he wanted the property back to move into - we filed a case against him and he was told in no uncertain terms in the rent committee court that if he had wanted his property for his own use he should never have placed it on the rental market. He was told that we were to be allowed to stay in the property for up to 3 years which is what we did and we very happily handed it back at the end of the 3 year term. In our next property after the first year we were given notice to quit and again went to the rent committee - we were told he must renew our lease and he was perfectly free to sell the property but the property must be sold with us as the tenants. He did renew and the property did eventually sell a month before we moved out. You have rights here as tentants - sometimes it's ignorance on the LL part and other times it's just another way for them to try to make some more money. You have every right to stay in your property for at least another year if not 2. If he really wants you out then let him pay your moving expenses, new curtain fees etc - he'll back down when he knows how much it will cost him!

Stunning food and service and you get o go into the kitchens and meet he chefs. I second Table 9 - they have two tasting menus as well, one meat and fish and one purely vegetarian. Great selection of food for all tastes, and the bag of homemade sweets to take home is definitely worth going for! The pick and mix is worth going for just on it's own!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the lemon sherberts are amazing!!!!!! The guys deserve to do well it's an amazing restaurant.

I took my little girl to Juan salon in Jumeirah Lake towers. He did a lovely cut on her and they blow dried her hair too and made her feel very special. She had not been to the hairdressers before and she loved it. I had to take her as her brother had decided to cut off one of her plaits - so Juan had his work cut out for him and he did a great job of putting it all right!

Unless the rules have changed recently the person needs to have been under your employ for a full year. I have a friend to applied to take her housemaid with her and she had been with them for over a year - might even have been 2 years and they were declined...... I would be worth calling and asking some questions - I think to apply you have to pay and you don't get the money back if you are declined. It might be better to wait until she has completed the full year.

Pack all your clothes and buy a good supply of clothes before you leave here as all the clothes are more expensive. I used to hit the Next sale in the summer and buy the entire years clothes for the kids. Hardly ever bought any clothes in Dubai so much more expensive. If you have small kids you can't get the Calpol sachets in dubai so pack those. I used to get visitors to bring me over a bottle of Medised and my hair colour as I couldn't get that in Dubai and the Pampers bed mats. Other than that you can get most stuff or a good equivalent there. I know people who have had their containers checked and some of their dvds were confiscated (nude scenes) and some books were taken away. Make sure you pack lots of nick nacks that will make your new house feel like your home. Lots of framed photos of your family too. Exciting times ahead for you - good luck.

We have recently returned to the UK and I'm finding my bills are far far less than in Dubai. Food shopping is much cheaper and the fruit and veg smell diviine and taste as they should! We are not in Scotland so don't struggle with the extreme weather and so far I'm still in just a cardigan - have had no need for a winter coat yet! we have blue skies and fluffy clouds and it's still and very very mild. We have not had the cold snap everyone warned us about. We had 1 day of pathetic snow which was gone by lunchtime and my kids were not impressed with that! I Have only put up an umbrella twice since we got back in August - so really not bad at all. I find that my kids are outside playing far far more here than they ever did in Dubai. As long as you wear the right clothes here you can be outside virtually every day whereas we would spend time indoors in the summer months avoiding the intense heat. Yes there are taxes to pay - yes it costs me 103 uk pounds to fill up my car but.......I am 6 minutes from one of the largest out of town marks and spencers so I'm not doing many miles in my car so a tank of petrol lasts me much longer than it ever did driving from one end of dubai to another. We were in Dubai for New Year and had a great time and got to go to new places - it's a place we will return to time and time again to see our friends and experience all the new things that they are still opening and the kids can have their wild wadi fix but....... being back here has been surprisingly much easier than I ever thought possible. I feel totally safe. the people I have met are positive and up beat. You read in the newspapers it's all doom and gloom and I can tell you - it so is not! It's a lovely country to live in. the best part is being close to your family and friends who you have known since school days which is special. We have a very similar lifestyle here in the UK to the one we had in Dubai - I don't have a live in housemaid but I'm very happy with my Polish cleaning lady and my lovely ironing lady who lives up the road. I feel very lucky to have enjoyed expat life in Dubai and would happily return one day but for now I am loving seeing my sisters and my mum and seeing my kids reconnect with their cousins. it's time for us to have with our family and we are loving it.

I agree with just sain - I'd keep her until she wants to go back home - your little one will be 2 years older - his days at school will be longer and it's up to you to start limiting how much your helper does with your little boy. You have time to set in his mind that she will be going back home and put distance between them - he'll be fine. I think seeing her in the park up the road will be even more unsettling.

You have time to set in his mind that she will be going back home and put distance between them - he'll be fine. I think seeing her in the park up the road will be even more unsettling.

Thanks Claire! I'm about to come back to the UK on a visit to do a few chores, so that would be a good opportunity to have a chat with a few garages. Its a small world isn't it?! I may take you up on that cup of tea when I come back, and before then I will probably have a million ridiculous questions to ask about living in Surrey after being away for 5 years! Very happy to help you settle back in - we were there 5 years too and it's been an easy transition. Good luck and please feel free to ask away - definitely host you a cuppa when you arrive back.

there's tons of info if you use the search facility but this post is probably all you really need: 21/06/2011 08:43:12 kerry80 Posts 10 I thought I would post this to help others who are in the same situation. Our filipina maid is going on vacation next week so I had to take her to the POLO office yesterday to obtain her exit pass so that she can re-enter Dubai without any problems. Here are the docs you need: Go to www.polo-owwadubai.net and go to the downloadable for section. In the 'forms for household staff' section you need to print off and fill in the: * undertaking_of_employer-a4_size_bomd.doc *ofw_data_sheet_for_balik_manggagawa.pdf *infor_sheet-a4_size_bond.xls You also need 2 copies of each of these forms and 2 copies of the sponsors visa and passport and your helpers visa and passport pages, and 2 copies and original of helpers employment contract from the ministry of labour. The charges are 150dhs. There is a copy of the location map on the website as well but typical Dubai...it is useless! We got to the Abu Hail Road and then found a Taxi to follow the rest of the way. We went at 3.30pm and it was extremely busy. It is probably better to get there early. It took about 1hr and a half when I went so it is probably best to drop your helper off and then go to Carrefour round the corner in Century Mall for a coffee and collect her when she is done. Hope this helps and Good luck in finding the place!! edited by kerry80 on 22/06/2011

If I were you I'd start the visa process and not piddle about with kish and run the risk of her getting stuck there. If during the application process she is not suitable cancel and get your money back..either way she will have to go home if she has no one to work for. Good luck!
