Shame you say you're not too keen on: 2. Energetic Panacea 3. Vet hospital Al Quoz 4. Blue Oasis As those are three of the BEST there are! Have used all of them, never had any issues and the vets are all fantastic.

I agree with Mannikat on this one. It is a common way to alert other drivers that you are going to reverse park. I think most if not all drivers pop their hazards on to do this You usually have to, because the person behind you doesn't look any further than their bonnet and ends up sitting in your boot! Hazards simply means 'I've stopped, am maneuvering, go around me'. If people paid more attention to what was going around them, stopped being so impatient and were more courteous - that would be great. Wishful thinking FD, when I stop, indicate left to go into our undercar park some fool always tries to overtake me as I am turning. The amount of near misses now has me going to the end of the road and u turning as its safer to turn right into the carpark that way. Too many idiots here People do that to me when I indicate to go left - they then take over on my left! - as I am turning! WTF I nearly wiped out a delivery guy on a bike the other week because he did that. I indicated, stopped, started to make my turn and he cut inside of me! People just have no common sense.

I bet you put your hazards on in the fog too. No I don't actually! Use common sense - PLEASE! If someone is slowing down and indicating to one side and goes past an empty space, it is blindingly obvious what their intentions are. Some people are clearly oblivious! Hazards means I've stopped for some reason - go around! It's NOT rocket science.

Also, when I talk about reverse parking I'm talking about what the Americans call parallel parking, not reversing into a spot that is 90 degree from the curb or in a car park. I think some people are talking about different things here? Parallel parking is the same wherever you come from. It's not the same as reverse parking. Ahh no it's not. If you told someone in Australia (well in Sydney anyway) you were reverse parking they would think you were reversing into a park that is parallel to the curb. That's what you call 'reverse parallel parking.' - have plenty of Aussie mates, they all know the difference.

What is the most annoying part of it is that you **pass** the parking space so that people think you aren't going to stop for it. Then, you want to reverse backwards into it. That's why the "morons" are behind you because there is no possible way for you to indicate that you are going to reverse into the spot. It ought to be illegal. erm no - that's what the little lever beside the steering wheel is for - you INDICATE you are going to move into that spot - I usually flick on my hazards that I'm stopping then indicate to show I'm going to reverse. If people are too dumb to realise what that means, they shouldn't have a license.

The people who usually moan about reverse parking, are the ones who can't do it! I ALWAYS reverse park when I can, it's easier and more convenient and yes, it's part of our test in the UK - you have to be able to do it. ETA - I can reverse park using only my mirrors - that's a skill in itself. edited by FairyDust on 10/11/2014 Ugh, that is sooooo annoying. I can do it but I hate the thought of inconveniencing everyone else while I maneuver. It doesn't take much longer to be honest. Go forward past the space, reveres into it - what's the big deal. It's the morons who come up behind you and stop you being able to reverse into a space that annoy me. Plus as Chewit says, reversing in is less dangerous. How many people shoot out a space backwards and nearly hit other cars?

As gross as it is, I just wanted to make him happy and spoil him a little. But I guess, I just have to force him to stay away from it as it is banned and is not good for his health. Hmmm maybe go watch the episode of The Doctors, where the guy who chewed tabacco had half his face removed due to the cancer it caused. That'll put you off it for sure.

Would I be outraged? No. Would I think it inappropriate? Absolutely! Nothing wrong with going and having a polite word with her, that she needs to remember where she is and that it's not acceptable to go topless - compounds are still public areas and not private. With regards to Europe, I don't find it odd at all. I've frequented topless beaches etc and done it myself. When we go skiing in Austria every year, you get into trouble if you wear more than a towel into the saunas - it's 'normal'. It IS only skin after all. I don't have an issue with it. edited by FairyDust on 09/11/2014

Well I can kind of understand that. The terrace tables with views of the fountains are the most sought after, so they want decent paying customers for them, not people who just hog them. Let's face it, in that place your minimum spend will be 500+ dhs anyway.

Are you sure these are genuine situations? Because it sounds like you're making a rod for your own back and she's just taking you for a ride. Live out nanny? Who's sponsorship is she on? Because unless you sponsor her or she's under an agency sponsorship, you could actually be illegally employing her. All sounds like a bit of a disaster.

What kind of parrot? With certain breeds you need all the CITES certificates etc, without it's virtually impossible to move them. Best bet is to contact someone like Dubai Kennel & Cattery as they have experience of moving all sorts of animals.

This thread has given me a huge push - towards the nearest cinema screen. What show/ time would you ladies recommend, to avoid the possibility of any lurkers/psychos/creepy guys? I ask because, if you are completely alone, and there is even one nutter around, thats too many, isnt it! Has anyone ever encountered a problem, and any advise if something wierd happens? We should make a blind date, all the EW ladies, and turn up at the cinema at the appointed time. But no intros/ numbers/ chatting etc just watch the movie 'together' and disperse afterwards - can discuss the movie on here later, lol. First showings on a Friday morning! Always super quiet.

I did my bike license with Al Ahli - they were fantastic. Sadly it is VERY likely that you will be the only woman. When I did mine, there was only myself and another lady and our timings always varied, so I was usually on my own with all the guys. It doesn't really matter, as you're all doing your own thing anyway. Just be aware, riding a bike on the UAE roads is terrifying at the best of times. I haven't ridden in ages, got really fed up of being bullied.

I hope you didn't pay the DEWA from the previous tenant? That should have gone to the LL and been his problem. What does it say in the contract? I would almost say these issues are a breach of tenancy contract, as the LL has to provide a property which is habitable - which clearly with some of these issues, like no water etc, it was not. If he keeps refusing to pay anything, then go and speak to the rent committee, or you could on moving out, put everything back the way you found it.

Yes apologies ladies I did delete my posts due to some security reasons and things being in public; the situation did end pretty horribly: they packed to leave; I wrote to her husband trying to highlight her issues but he just obsessed about my wrongful action of disciplining his son when he is too young to learn; I tried to get him off that and to face other issues, that his wife cannot cope with the children, that there is no hygiene, but he stuck to his guns of these being cultural misunderstandings (ie, that I didnt understand his wife's culture). As a farewell gesture I ordered the family a pizza but they refused to eat it, and my room was left in just a horrible mess. I felt very hurt and a bit insulted, like that was the final say, leave my room like that, dirty plates, rubbish everywhere, bed absolutely fility and stuff thrown about. It was really hurtful. And that after five days hospitality and feeding them, taking care of her kids, walking her baby around in the middle of the night, taking her to the salon and mall etc. I have promised myself not really search now my intentions before I am kind to people; it has been a good eyeopener. My husband gave him a few days to sort out what to do and pressed upon him that her issues need sorting, but her husband just wants to believe she is perfect. Sad ending for all, and for her and her kids most of all. thanks for all your help; apologies for my deletions, I do that sometimes as i get worried about giving too much away in public. Well I sincerely hope your husband is going to dock his pay for the cost of cleaning up your house!

I had infected mozzie bites on my legs - they litterally were the size of 25 fil coins - and filled wiht pus Had to take two courses of antibiotics and a week off work as everytime i stood up my legs swellled. There was about 10 on each leg - was gross. Yeah they can get infected really quickly if you don't keep them clean or put something on them. The antihistamines get rid of the swelling very quickly and I'll rub vinegar over them.

First of all - STOP PANICKING! I pretty much guarantee you it is NOT a bat bite. They only types of bats you find in the UAE (all 3 or 4 species of them) are all insect eaters, apart from one fruit bat. They have NO interest in biting people or sucking blood and they certainly would not be crawling about on the floor. I got bitten by mozzies out on a run the other night and you should see the size of the bites - [b'>they're massive[/b'>, because I have a bad reaction to insect bites and have to take antihistamines for them. The same is probably for your son, he's just had a bad reaction to one bite. There is no prevalence for rabies in the UAE. There was one death in 2009 and that was the first in a decade. I don't have any reaction to mozzie bites, but it is so easy to make them go huge and scabby, just by scratching. He's too young to be able to resist scratching - so am I ;) edited by Geordie expat on 28/10/2014 You're lucky! They last for days on my legs. I'll be lucky if you can't still see them after a week - 10 days. Truly horrid.

I always felt bad about the sheer amount of waste when juicing. To be honest, buying a juicer then all the fruits/veggies would probably cost the same amount as ordering the juices from a company. As others have said, the Nutribullet is NOT a juicer - but it makes brilliant smoothies and no mess, no fuss.

You occasionally get small sharks as well. Just avoid during jellyfish season, as they are everywhere and the fishermen throw the torn apart jellies caught in their nets and it's hard to see the stingers.

but rolling cake in a tissue takes the cake for the rudest thing I've heard. Well this isn't actually abnormal. But obviously you normally have the cake, sing happy birthday, blow out the candles and everyone has a piece, then if there's any left over, it is cut up and put into napkins for people to take home. By the sounds of it the host just wanted to get people out the door.
