Oh great, thanks for responding. I had always wondered whether she took a risk buying alcohol there without a licence let alone in Ramadan.

Can you purchase duty free alcohol at the airport during Ramadan as resident without an alcohol licence? Have a friend proposing to do this on way back from hols and am thinking she might be taking a bit of a risk. Thanks for response

Yee haa! We got some. I was out on my terrace about 30mins before Fajr so maybe 5.15am? It was raining steadily, not just teasing little sprinkles here and there. First proper rain I've seen here. So, when are you going to do it? That dance in your garden. Haha. I did it, naked on my terrace about 5.15am and the rain stopped *sob*

Alas Glennfiddich I fear you're a cynic My husband was visiting last May, t'was no picnic For storm it did, the roads were awash The traffic - pure chaos - oh really, oh gosh! I feared for his life in the taxi's that trip Take the ferry, I said, it will be less hardship There are no ferries on Sheikh Zed he said with a growl And all I could do was crawl into bed and howl

Fantastic! Thank you Ladies! 2 options is great! Cherry Ripe thanks for those specific directions. Googled Coventry and this is what I found in case anyone else is interested (from Time Out): This tiny no-frills shop might be hidden down an alleyway in Satwa, but don’t let that put you off. Ishwar, the proprietor has been churning out excellent ladies’ and gents’ outfits in Dubai for the past 26 years, and he’s got a loyal customer base to prove it. It’s a family-run business (his sons beaver away at the back of the shop cutting cloth) and the service is ultra-friendly. If you’re a regular, he’ll even supply you with a beedi cigarette or two while you wait (he insists the tiny Indian smokes are harmless, although we’re not so sure). Select your material from any of the shops on the main street – Regal Traders (04 344 9092) is just nearby – and he’ll do the rest. We had a suit made three years ago that still ranks as one of the best-made items in our wardrobe. Click here to find out more! Be aware that during peak season you’ll have to wait for a couple of weeks to get the end product back. And it’s best to have a picture of what you want to have copied, or even better, a similar item that you can leave with him to work from. This isn’t the kind of shop that boasts coffee tables laden with Milan stylebooks. But for Dhs500 a suit (excluding material, including beedis), it’s an absolute bargain and a great place to visit. I'm assuming this is a thermogenic? Is the basis for it's effectiveness built around caffeine? If so, I would recommend doing some research on caffeine and fertility. So if it's main active ingredient is caffeine, it would probably be in the order of about 100mg per serving, which is equivalent to quite a few esspresso's. Perhaps do some googling on it and seek some user reviews as I am just basing the above on assumptions rather than personal experience. But if the active ingredient is caffeine, then side effects could include headaches, increased feeling sof anxiety, increased jitters, diuretic effects, but also more energy. It's effectiveness would probably depend on how used to caffeine your body is now. I don't think I would take it while trying to conceive.

There is a new kitchenware shop openned in MoE. Almost opposite the Body Shop. I was in there last week having a snoop around. They had a Halloween themed section. I don't recall seeing sprinkles, but they had cupcake stands, cake toppers (flags), cookie cutters etc. You could try there if you're in the vicinity. IF you don't find any shaped ones, you could maybe use orange, purple and black sprinkles perhaps???

I dunno, I used to work for an American company, I wouldn't say the men are all the same. East Cost, West Coast, Southern and Mid-West maybe [i'>at a stretch[/i'> you could generalise, as they might have similar values/behaviour traits, but as I said, I really think that would be stretching it! Shamina my recomendation would be you if you [i'>absolutely have [/i'>to know this stuff now, then you need to be asking these questions of your man-friend. Don't make any assumptions based on the opinions of a random bunch of women on an internet forum. But really, I think the best thing would be just to lighten up and cruise for a bit and get to know each other a bit better before rushing into deep and meaningfuls or you might scare him away.

Fatzak, what a shame - neither of those sellers have the kit in Fair. They have it in Light, but the light shade has too much yellow in it for my skin. Thanks for trying. SaintLouismama - thanks - yes, Dh was talking about Shop and Ship the other day. I guess sooner or later we are going to have to sign up if we want to buy anything online. Thanks for the prod. edited by IWOM on 10/10/2011

Thanks. Tried ebay too. There were a couple with teh right shade on there but they don't ship to the Middle East. Kelly - agree. When they realised they didn't have any fair kits they tried to sell me a medium or something. So much for "brand integrity" ppft! Make-up shop in Dubai Marina Mall? Never been to that Mall, maybe this is the excuse to go... Just looked on their website could it be either of these: Areej or Pace E Luce Beauty Salon? And yes, it does seem quite expensive to purchase from Sephora - 390 Dh for the kit. But I'd buy it knowing I'd get it a lot faster and no delivery costs... edited by IWOM on 10/10/2011

I've been to that mall once and noticed the cats. They were healthy and friendly. But they were climbing all over people's cars. Perhaps some of the customers have complained to the management? My husband actually moved our car to get away from them while I was in Choithrams grabbing a couple of things.

Where do you suggest I move from the right lane Sue? Onto the pavement? You implied I should go faster than the speed limit to avoid "deliberately" frustrating drivers. Read your post: " and it's just this sort of behaviour that can lead these other drivers to cause accidents - deliberately "frustrating" them.." I drive in the right lane, at the speed limit. I cannot change how people respond to that. It is their choice to get frustrated. I am not going to break the speed limit and hence the law to ease their frustration. I'm not apologising to you. You are rude. Quick to jump to the negative. Go back and have a look at your communication style.

I feel the same as Guiness. I often have to take another child along because DH travels and there is no one to look after the child. But I don't expect them to be part of the party. I pay for their entrance and their food and don'texpect a lolly bag. However...I have had it in the past that a parent has asked do I mind if a sibling comes. I've said no, assuming the parent is paying for said sibling, only to be called up to the entrance to the party and told in front of the parent that the sibling's name is missing from the list and can they let them in. I was kind of embarrassed and ended up paying for everything for the sibling. Since that time, I put a PS on the invitations saying "If you are needing to bring siblings, the entry cost is xxx and please check the website for food costs" to make it clear I am only paying for the invited child.

and it's just this sort of behaviour that can lead these other drivers to cause accidents - deliberately "frustrating" them.. i always drive at the speed i'm most comfortable with and i keep out of the left hand lane wherever possible (being freeways the roads here aren't like "fast" or "slow" in UK). Read the post Sue62. It's not so hard, Sanddy got it. Why should I break the law just so some idiot can kill himself 5 mins earlier? I am not winding them up. I am driving in the right hand lane at the speed limit. Speed limits are there for a reason. I might "feel comfortable" driving 20 kph above the speed limit but I don't. Do you??? I don't break the law. Do you??? Apology please. edited by IWOM on 27/09/2011

Actually, if someone is sticking right up close behind me, these days I take great delight in sticking right on the speed limit and watch their frustration rise as they try to weave out into the fast moving traffic in the lane to the left. Some of the people here have no respect for life. Idiots!

Yes, my health has been affected adversely by stress caused by the lack of professionalism and incompetence of those who work here. And I'm not talking about locals, who have all been very helpful. I have never seen such incompetence and lack of caring anywhere else in the world. I am going to need to start a stream of botox injections to get rid of the permanently grumpy look on my face caused by continually having to fight my way through the quagmire of incompetent and uncaring fools I seem to have attracted since my arrival here. Unfortunately there is no cure for this disease.

Thanks for that. I was wondering how we were going to cope with snow gear. The kids have some jackets, but may very well have grown out of them by Christmas. DH and I didn't bring anything like that here. Certainly helps keep the price down if you don't have to buy stuff like that for just one wear...

Yeah, you keep them and when your child is about 14 and wants to drink coke, you bring out one of those sweet little teeth and put it in a glass of coke. Check it 24 - 48 - 72 hours etc later and it should hopefully put them off drinking coke for life. ;)
