I have a question about the Summer Surprises ... My DH and I are expecting and we were waiting on the Summer Surprises sale to pick up gear for the baby, would you guys advise against it, since they mark up the prices for the "sales"? What I would do is jot down the prices of the items I would purchase now and then when the sale starts look if they've reduced it or increased it.

For a cheaper option, I think Al Mallah is one the best lebanese restaurants. I love their fattoush, shwarma sandwiches, their mixed grills, the cocktails. Pretty much everything lol.

I bought a bag before but found it to taste bitter. Do any of the ones you cook have a bitter taste? Will try the quinoa in Spinneys? Is it a Spinneys brand?

I spend between 2400 to 2800 a month. This is for 2 adults and 3 children. I cook almost everyday. I shop at the Union Coop and shop once or twice to get meat from the Prime butchers. I don't cook vegetarian. I will now make a veg meal once a week to cut the cost down.

There are many different types of fabrics. I only know a few by name. There is 'internet' which is heavy and the fabric is thick and does not wrinkle at all. Good for winter. Then there is the lighter fabric 'nada' which many ladies wear. It's light, flowy and perfect for summer. Nada also does not wrinkle. I think Saloona is another light fabric if I remember. Just go into an abaya store and feel through the fabrics or just ask for Nada and Saloona and see if you like them. eta: There are also lexus and saudi crepe but not sure what those feel like. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can differentiate between those. edited by LuLee on 01/06/2012

Is it to do with not being able to carry out ablution to perform prayers - then this particular one would not be a cultural issue. I think fighting for rights to drive is a cultural issue. Not cultural - one cannot carry out the compulsory ablution to perform your prayers if you're wearing nail polish. Re the lipstick comment... if she was local they would not have been able to tell because her face would have been covered too. She could've been on her period. You can not pray when on period, therefore you can wear nail polish.

I used to take my MIL to the new building. Like poster said it's air conditioned, there's parking underneath (10 dirhams an hour, I think). Lots of cheap abayas, arabic style dresses (jalabiyat), scarves, fabrics, perfume, jewelry. Upstairs is mainly clothes for children, women and men.

Thank you. Will go ahead and try Twinnings Jasmine green tea and see if I like it. I'm assuming loose green tea has more health benefits than in a tea bag. Sorry I'm new to green tea and only hear good things about it, so would like to add this to my diet.

Yum I love Kushari. Yes m_king, kushari is lentils, rice, pasta, fried onions and the yummy sauce that goes with it. Does anyone have the tomato sauce recipe? Hmm I think I shouldn't be asking for the recipe, it's so fattening.

At full term normal delivery the usual weight loss should be at least 5-6 kilos - Baby + water + Placenta + Umbical cord etc. LuLee, how could you only have lost 2 kilos? I just weighed myself and I've lost 3 kilos so far. I'm breastfeeding also. I was still eating for two after I had my baby, my fault completely. I was staying with my mom so she did all the cooking. For the past month and half, I've been eating much better. I still have a snack here and there, but not like before. I've begun to brisk walk around Safa Park and doing some crunches and planks. I know I need to do more, but this what I can do for now. I've lost one inch from my stomach. I love my carbs and need to put a stop to that.

Not that Im advocating for the Kenwood machine (tongue in cheek) but if you are going to be making heavy things such as bread doughs, its very important to get a machine that has a powerful motor - making dough really does take it out on the motor and if it isnt up to scratch then youre going to find yourself regularly getting the motor rewound/replaced... I think I'm sold lol. I make quite a lot of different breads so I do want something that will keep up with that and last a long time. I'm going to get the Kenwood Chef Titanium.

I bought a Kenwood stand mixer 2 years back for AED 800 (or 899, I'm not sure) versus the much more expensive KA, because I didn't know how often I'd bake. However, turns out I bake too often for my BMI's liking and love the Kenwood :) Of course I'd love a KA in my kitchen (who wouldn't?) but for now, the Kenwood is meeting all my expectations. Cake mixes are fab if done at the right speed, frostings turn out well too and I make chapatti dough about 3 times a week which is actually the lifesaver :D Which model do you have? I saw a Kenwood Chef Titanium for 3,300aed on dubizzle. Does anyone know the cost of this model in stores? edited by LuLee on 29/04/2012

Gosh I'm so torn between the two. It's going to be a hard decision. I already have a spice grinder, blender and a mini food processor so I don't think I'll use the accessories that Kenwood offers with its mixer. I love making pizza dough, breads, cakes and frosting. I have a KA and love it. It gets an absolute thrashing as I use it all the time and apart from it needing a little adjustment every now and then (easy to do with a screwdriver - just for the arm to make sure the scraper doesn't hit the bottom of the bowl), it has never let me down. I have the mincer attachment and this is great - so nice to make my own mince etc. When making bread, does your KA wobble?

Hmm I think I'm going to go look at the Kenwood Mixers later on. The only difference between the Titanium Chef and Titanium Major is the capacity and the power. Will go look at the prices too. What is the after service like for both kitchenAid and kenwood? Is it expensive to get repaired if something goes wrong?

Looks like the kenwood kmix range is quite funky too ... Especially the stripey one, not sure if you can get in the UAE though http://www.kenwoodworld.com/uk/Products/kMix-by-Kenwood/kMix-Stand-Mixer These do look pretty, but the Kmix are only 500w, compared to the Chef which can be 1000 or 1200w. True for Kmix, Titanium Major is 1500W and Titanium Chef is 1400W.

We did the same for my son. He had really nice, soft hair before we shaved his head bald at one years old. Then when it started to grow out, it was hard hair. Very rough. I don't think it made much difference to the fullness. But I know many who shaved their children's head, their hair grew out beautifully.

After YEARS of wishing for a Kitchenaid, my husband bought me one for Xmas a couple of years ago. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Now, that said, I read somewhere recently that they are no longer made to the same, original high standards. I don't make bread and I have also read that the Kenwood leaves the Kitchenaid for dead in the bread kneading race. There is a more powerful Kitchenaid on the market, so that one might do the job for you. The Kitchenaid is mighty pretty...when I had space, mine had pride of place on the bench and was polished almost every time I passed it. One day I'll have extra bench space for it again. :D ETA: - If you Google Kitchenaid v Kenwood, there are dozens of results! - Hot tip of the day...don't buy one locally with a South African plug on it!! The first one my husband brought home gave me a good kick the first time I plugged it in. It MUST have a separate earth (ie three pin plug) !!!!!!! edited by Green-ish on 28/04/2012 Yes have looked on google. I don't think I have came across a bad review for the Kenwood except that it's not as pretty as KitchenAid. KA is really cute lol and love the bright colors. I'm not even sure what colors they have here. I'm leaning more towards a KitchenAid but the power on KW is almost triple than the KichenAid. Hmm decisions decisions

After years of coveting a Kitchenaid I got one, and to be honest I am disapointed. It doesnt do everything I want without all the extra bit. Previously I had a Kenwood for 25 years and it chopped, mix batter, bread, did everything. I miss it but it never looked as cool as the kitchenAid does. Thank you for your opinion. I'm not sure if I'll be using the extra attachments on the Kenwood. I'm mostly going to use it for breads, cakes and frosting. The kitchenaid does look pretty cool.

I have a Kenwood, but when you mix small quantities of cake batter the K-attachment does not reach to the bottom of the bowl so you have to get in there and stir it manually. If I purchase again it would be a different brand... Which model do you have?

Maize is corn, so yes. I bought flaxseed at Geant. They have both seeds and ground. They carry numerous different kinds of flour, so you may find corn flour there, too. There's a whole section of organic and gluten-free baking products. A little far out, will go on the weekend. Thank you.
